The Maypole Care Home provides nursing and residential care. Their highly skilled nurses, carers and ancillary staff create a welcoming and homely environment, promoting independence and quality of life.

The home is purpose-built with spacious and comfortable lounges, enabling residents to relax and spend time with family and friends. Every bedroom has en suite facilities, a television, telephone point and Wi-Fi, while some offer views of the gardens. Residents are encouraged to accessorise their rooms to their own personal tastes.

Tasty and nutritious meals are created every day by the in-house chef who really gets to know and understand the residents’ preference and specific dietary requirements. In the evenings and overnight, snacks and refreshments are available from a Night Bites menu.

A varied programme of activities and events ensures that residents remain active and stimulated. Residents are also encouraged and supported to develop and maintain interests and social networks in the local community.

Mum spent her last couple of months at the Maypole Care Home, and from the moment she arrived, she was made to feel very welcome, safe and cared for. Every member of staff was very polite, professional and attentive. Mum really enjoyed her time here, and it made her final few weeks a calm and peaceful
time for her and the whole family. Mum was treated with respect and dignity right to the end, and this made the whole experience so much more bearable. Thank you!

My mum was a resident at Maypole Care Home for over eight years. She was extremely happy there and received excellent care from the staff. Everyone was considerate and understanding of Mum's needs. The end-of-life care was amazing too. Mum was taken care of by several staff who were compassionate and

Visited for the first time last week and I can honestly say I was surprised at the lack of infection control. No sanitiser, no masks available, and no check on whether we had done a negative covid test or had any known bugs. As soon as I walked through the doors I was hit by a very unpleasant smell,
the source of which was obvious. All room doors were open fully giving absolutely no privacy for anyone in there, several of which were "compromised". The room I was visiting was shabby at best but reasonably clean but I was surprised to see a dirty fabric chair with no others for visitors. It was very apparent very quickly that the "care" was poor at best and not what I was expecting. Not at all happy with the standards and can't understand how palliative care can be offered with no resident Doctors, no pharmacy, and no ability to administer IV meds or nutrition. Baffled and horrified at the experience.

Had my first visit to the Maypole last week. It was clear that the place was understaffed (that's why they leave all the patient's room doors open) and were unable to provide the care required. Call buttons took up to 40mins to be answered. The Doctor only calls twice a week from the local practice.
They advertise as offering palliative care with no resident Doctor, how can this be? Left me very worried about my relative's care.

My mum was transferred from the hospital to receive end-of-life care. Her room was clean and in good condition, looking onto the garden. With some of her familiar things around her and room for visitors, her last few weeks with us were made more bearable. The staff were caring and compassionate and
made sure Mum's needs were taken care of at all times. All in all, a positive experience of a happy, well-run home.

Cannot single out one individual as all were exceptional in their professionalism with a smile and kind words! All the staff went out of their way to make me comfortable while I stayed with Mum over her last 48 hours. Nothing was too much trouble! An exceptional workforce who work together in an amazing
way! The manager is obviously well thought about and knows how to make a team of people work together, and they also have a mutual respect for her! It was the best place for Mum to be.

Although our beloved Mum was only here for a few days, she could not have received a better welcome from the moment she arrived. Everybody came and introduced themselves; the chef, the laundry lady and the activities. The care given was dignified and gentle. Not only did everybody care for Mum, but

I enjoy my time here, the care staff are really caring and look after my needs, they make time to check in on me and meet me needs. I have been here for three years and I am happy here. The nurses sometimes don't spend enough time with me while I take my tablets.

Mum was placed in Maypole as part of the NHS's non-weight-bearing pathway following an accident.
Individual staff were caring and very motivating to Mum following her trauma and were empathetic. The level of encouragement from all staff domestics, catering, admin and care staff was excellent.
In the
initial months when she was not allowed to mobilise on her broken leg, Mum found the delay in answering call bells to attend to her personal needs distressing; when the staff came, they were caring and attentive and gave excellent care.
There was great communication with the home's GP practice and good access to review and support when required.
The home was very flexible and accomodating in allowing therapy and rehab visits and answered emails to arrange these promptly and efficiently.
Mum is grateful for all the support she received at Maypole during her stay and how it helped her on her journey to recovery.

We removed my mother from the home last night amid serious safeguarding concerns. My mother was placed in the home for a short period of time to assess her care needs, she had been neglected. The home is run around policy and procedure but fails to treat its residents with respect, dignity, and care.
The management of the home is weak, complaints fall on deaf ears and as a family for my mum's own safety, we removed her. Someone from Bupa needs to address this home's failings as I feel sure not every resident there has the ability to communicate the dreadful care given. I would be happy to discuss our experience further if Bupa would like to contact me as no one in the home is willing to take responsibility.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to provide a review. This is intended to be balanced and professional whilst being honest.
Mum was here for six weeks earlier this year before she had to be moved for her own well-being into a better care environment. It was a very difficult time. There were
individual colleagues who were excellent and very supportive for which we were grateful. The leadership, operating model and effectiveness of the operation were not just poor and substandard, for a branded home of such reputation, it actually degenerated the ability to provide a meaningful resident experience of a care environment.
This ranged from complete inaccessibility or opportunity to visit through no effective system of contact through to poor patient record keeping. A subsequent independent investigation was conducted, without our prompting.
This negates the positive impact of a small number of interactions. Shape up BUPA.

Unfortunately, this issue occurred during a brief period where we did not have a general manager in place and we also had a temporary clinical lead. I am happy to say both of these roles are now filled and the home is focused on improving the quality of care offered and the resident's overall experience in the home. Inquiries are difficult to receive, telephone rings and rings, a little more care could be given when speaking, rude and rushed.
Not all emails were answered.
The first impression is very poor. Improved a little, but requires more improvement.

In the difficult times of this pandemic, the home has kept COVID-19 free and this is down to the commitment of staff at all levels and has been led by the manager (who is fairly new still), down. It’s safe to say that visiting restrictions have proved difficult emotionally for all involved - residents
and us relatives alike but I have been able to communicate with the manager about the physical and emotional needs of my Granddad that I have observed as a result of having FaceTime video calls with him, which have been facilitated by staff. Needs identified have been listened to (and progressed on the whole) and through the communication about my Granddad, a mutually respectful relationship is now being built. This has allowed my feelings about Government led visiting restrictions to be aired and for a plan to be put in place that balances Granddad's needs alongside fellow residents' needs to see their families, and in line with Government restrictions and Bupa’s application of this.

My dad has been at Maypole for almost 2 years and is settled and happy there. We have always been made welcome as frequent visitors to see him and we’ve been particularly impressed in recent months at the lengths staff have gone to keep the home COVID free and to facilitate our contact with him during
the lockdown period, notwithstanding the limits imposed by Government guidance. Staff have been flexible and creative in their responses to keep us in touch which we have appreciated and which, more importantly, has really impacted positively on dad’s emotional well-being.
