Mum was here for six weeks earlier this year before she had to be moved for her own well-being into a better care environment. It was a very difficult time. There were individual colleagues who were excellent and very supportive for which we were grateful. The leadership, operating model and effectiveness of the operation were not just poor and substandard, for a branded home of such reputation, it actually degenerated the ability to provide a meaningful resident experience of a care environment.
This ranged from complete inaccessibility or opportunity to visit through no effective system of contact through to poor patient record keeping. A subsequent independent investigation was conducted, without our prompting.
This negates the positive impact of a small number of interactions. Shape up BUPA.
Thank you for your feedback. The resident in question moved out over five months ago. Unfortunately, this issue occurred during a brief period where we did not have a general manager in place and we also had a temporary clinical lead. I am happy to say both of these roles are now filled and the...

The first impression is very poor. Improved a little, but requires more improvement.
Thank you for your comments. I will pass your remarks on to the home manager as we use all feedback to continuously improve our service. Thank you for bringing this to our attention again.
All staff were kind, caring and welcoming to residents and visitors and made their stay as pleasant as possible in very trying times.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are very happy to hear you are satisfied with the quality of our care.
In the difficult times of this pandemic, the home has kept COVID-19 free and this is down to the commitment of staff at all levels and has been led by the manager (who is fairly new still), down. It’s safe to say that visiting restrictions have proved difficult emotionally for all involved - residents and us relatives alike but I have been able to communicate with the manager about the physical and emotional needs of my Granddad that I have observed as a result of having FaceTime video calls with him, which have been facilitated by staff. Needs identified have been listened to (and progressed on the whole) and through the communication about my Granddad, a mutually respectful relationship is now being built. This has allowed my feelings about Government led visiting restrictions to be aired and for a plan to be put in place that balances Granddad's needs alongside fellow residents' needs to see their families, and in line with Government restrictions and Bupa’s application of this.
Thank you for your understanding during such a difficult time. We appreciate it is very hard not being able to see your loved one for such a long time. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
My dad has been at Maypole for almost 2 years and is settled and happy there. We have always been made welcome as frequent visitors to see him and we’ve been particularly impressed in recent months at the lengths staff have gone to keep the home COVID free and to facilitate our contact with him during the lockdown period, notwithstanding the limits imposed by Government guidance. Staff have been flexible and creative in their responses to keep us in touch which we have appreciated and which, more importantly, has really impacted positively on dad’s emotional well-being.
Thank you for your understanding during such a difficult time. We appreciate it is very hard not being able to see your loved one as much as you used to. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
My thanks to the wonderful activity co-ordinators who have entertained Dad with books, games and gardening, and who always have time to chat with him about current news and also his past life which he loves.
All the nurses are very caring, and Dad always looks so well cared for and happy. He has a spacious bedroom, which he has personalised and a scenic courtyard view.
Dad is a diabetic and praises the catering staff who provide such tasty meals and do their best to cater to request and chat to him in the dining room.
Dad really enjoys sitting and walking in the garden where the staff will make him a hot drink, so it feels as if they are always looking for ways to make his stay more comfortable.
Dad has a terminal illness, and the staff have made great efforts to reassure him that he will not have any pain and alleviate his worries as he faces these final days. Thank you to them.
We are very happy to hear you are satisfied with the quality of our care. Thank you for your praise.
During a period of lockdown, it was difficult to assess activities as there were limited opportunities. Although I did see a sheet detailing what was available. Everything else was excellent and everybody I talked to was sympathetic and helpful. Thank you

All the decisions taken have been sensible and in my mind, correct. I have been well looked after, good food, the help I have asked for has been given on every occasion and all the staff have been helpful and kind on all occasions. My thanks to all the nurses and the activities team.
Thank you for your kind words. We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such lovely comments.
I like the bedroom. I like te activities, I enjoy bingo and karaoke. I like everyone at Maypole because they are very lovely people.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are very happy to hear you are enjoying yourself.
I like the food and activities and the day and night staff, they are very good.
Nicely run and friendly atmosphere.
Good company.
Lockdown has been unpleasant but everyone has looked after me well. The activities team are a delightful pair and are very helpful.
The Maypole is a wonderful care home. The staff and carers are excellent. My mum is treated very well and the friendly professionalism of all makes it a very happy place for the residents. The activities team are fantastic, between them, the activities that are arranged are brilliant and I know not only mum but all the residents extremely enjoy and look forward to the great variety of entertainment they put on.
It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. Thank you for your praise.
A lovely care home, caring staff and entertainment team and reception ladies. The entertainment ladies have a lovely way with the residents and there are too many to mention. The catering team are wonderful bunch, as well as housekeeping. One of the bosses is a great guy. Nothing is too much trouble. The only fault is the buzzer takes ages for anyone to come.
Thank you for your praise. There is always something to improve so we will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help us continually improve our service.
I am so glad we chose this home for Mum. Having seen other homes in action over the years, with staff who are too busy to care enough, none of our relatives had anything negative to say about the Maypole. The management team may well take credit for this but honestly, the staff are the stars here, whether they are nurses, carers, cleaners or handymen, they were all genuine, kind and dealt with us with dignity at all times.
Thank you for your praise. We are saddened to hear about your loss, we can only hope Maypole did everything possible to help you and your family through such a difficult time.
My mother had to be admitted to hospital for a chest infection. The staff handled the situation with great professionalism and compassion.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. Our resident’s health and well being is an absolute priority and we hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care.
I think the care home is great. The staff are very good.
They became my mother's friends and my emotional and practical supporters. All the really important aspects are in place, care, compassion, love and friendship. I know if something was upsetting mum people there would care and do their best to sort it out.
Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments of our home and will share your comments with the home’s manager. The Bupa Customer Care Team
I’ve lived at the Maypole for two years. I enjoy living here, the staff are good and you can have a good laugh with them. There are lots of activities and I do some of them with other residents. There is a choice of two meals at each mealtime or you can have your own choice that the chef will cook for you. I really like that I could make my room how I wanted it to be, like when I was living with my family. I have lots of football pictures up on my walls which make it feel like home.
