Maypole Care Home

I think the care home is great. The staff are very good.

They became my mother's friends and my emotional and practical supporters. All the really important aspects are in place, care, compassion, love and friendship. I know if something was upsetting mum people there would care and do their best to sort it out.

I’ve lived at the Maypole for two years. I enjoy living here, the staff are good and you can have a good laugh with them. There are lots of activities and I do some of them with other residents. There is a choice of two meals at each mealtime or you can have your own choice that the chef will cook for you. I really like that I could make my room how I wanted it to be, like when I was living with my family. I have lots of football pictures up on my walls which make it feel like home.

Very friendly home and caring staff. Relatives are made very welcome. Residents are looked after very well.

I didn't know what to expect. I have been pleasantly surprised, much better than hospital. I have received good care here. I didn't expect to feel at home but I do.

Well below expectations for a particular group's home. Although staff were kind, caring and friendly, the staffing levels led to unacceptable delays in the provision of care. The food was bland and uninspiring and the cleaning regime was inconsistent and again below expectations.

Some residents have pets, such as goldfish. There is an extremely good activity programme and a successful fundraising team organised by residents families.

I have been impressed with the attitude of all staff, even in quite difficult situations. The care and attention I have witnessed has been exemplary. They have bent over backwards to accommodate my mother's 'demands' and to be supportive and caring to her family. How they maintain their patience and smiles is a lesson to us all!

I feel that when I visit my friend at Maypole, she is amongst friendly staff and indeed I feel she is among friends and is very well cared for. I do not wish to end up in care but if I had to, this would be my first choice. God bless.

I have been visiting my sister in the Maypole Care Home for about 6 years. Although general standards have been high, some care and nursing staff in the past have let the care home down. This has changed since the new manager has taken charge. The staff morale has increased and the little things have improved. I am secure in the thought that my sister is well looked after 24 hours a day and the new manager is a credit to Bupa.

Having looked long and hard to find the nicest "home" for my friend, I checked website reviews and felt the Maypole seemed the best I could find although certainly not the cheapest. On arriving my friend had the usual "settling in" troubles - which I spoke to the manager about. She assured me "it will all be alright", and she was right. My friend has settled very well and is happy. She loved the care ladies and lads, they help her to choose which necklace to wear today - which really means a lot. We have been totally supported by everyone and every request and query met to complete satisfaction. I cannot praise the manager and staff enough.

As usual, all staff are polite, caring and spend time listening. There is always a warm, smiling welcome. Dad has joined in a lot of activities and helped where necessary. Dad has difficulty with his speech and staff go the extra mile to listen and understand. A couple of evenings ago he had a slight problem with his catheter and in a bit of pain. One of the carers stayed on a while with him past their normal leaving time whilst the nurse adjusted the catheter. This is one of many ways that show they're caring. An excellent home from home.
