  • Trembaths, Letchworth Garden City
Located in Letchworth, MHA Trembaths holds a special place as the first nursing home opened by MHA in 1989, setting a trend as the first care home in the UK’s first garden city. The home provide nursing, residential dementia and palliative care for 51 residents.

For nature lovers, the open countryside and Green Way are just a short walk from the home. The beautifully landscaped gardens, reminiscent of a country estate, surround the home, offering residents stunning views from every window. With mature fruit trees, including pears, apples, and plums, as well as a grand walnut tree adored by local squirrels, the outdoor spaces provide ample seating areas, perfect for relaxing in sun or shade while enjoying the vibrant surroundings.

Each spacious bedroom offers a unique view of the secure and accessible gardens, providing a peaceful environment for all residents. Spiritual support is available through the regular chaplain, who offers guidance and a listening ear to residents of all beliefs. Residents enjoy a wide range of activities including knit and natter classes, bridge, music and movement, bingo, poetry readings, and watching school nativities.

Trembaths provides a reassuringly familiar and homely setting where residents feel connected, comfortable, and cared for every day. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for short stays or nursing and dementia care, the team at Trembaths are here to help.

We are so happy that our dad is in Trembaths. He is so well looked after and cared for. He has had fewer issues and infections since having their 24-hour care. The staff are, without exception, friendly, kind, caring and respectful, to both him and other members of our family. The manager has gone above
and beyond, with support and advice on dealing with various agencies. We can't thank them enough.
Reply from Renaud Sockalingum, Home Manager at TrembathsThank you for your lovely feedback which is very much appreciated. This will be shared with all our team members. We are so happy looking after your dad and seeing you all as a family unit makes our job so much easier.

My Mother is 99 and moved to Trembaths in mid-December 2024. She was in a state of shock after a flood in her flat in October and made an emergency move to live with two daughters one after another. She is now settling down and gaining her confidence back under the care and help she is now getting.

Trembaths staff are taking care of my father really well. He's always comfortable, clean and happy. We are kept informed of any changes, such as a recent chest infection. The manager is helping us deal with social services and has a great understanding of the system. We wouldn't want dad anywhere else.
Thank you so much.

Trembaths is an amazing home for my mum, we are so happy she is living there. The care that she receives is outstanding, the management and staff are always available for chats and are so helpful in answering any questions we have about our mum and her care. When visiting our mum at Trembaths, we are
always given a friendly welcome. Wonderful care home. Thank you.

My daughter has been at Trembaths for 18 months. She has a serious condition which means that she is paralised, non-verbal and tube fed - complex medical needs. She is treated with kindness and efficiency by the caring and nurturing staff. Visitors are welcomed and made to feel part of the family. Care
couldn't be better.

I had a really lovely day with my mum at the care home. In the afternoon the activity was bowling. It was great to see so many residents playing and having a lovely time, in a beautiful garden. Lots of laughter. The members of staff running the bowling were very organised and made the experience tons
of fun. A member of staff who was on her way home offered and took me and my mum to the right place and set my mum to play, really kind.
All of the staff are so kind and extremely helpful. One member of the kitchen staff, who was very busy, was more than happy to put down what she was doing, to let me out of the building. The security is well managed to get in and out of the building, as well as inside.
It is an amazing care home and my mum is really lucky to live there. I came back home with no worries for my mum. I know all her needs are more will be met.

Good, reliable, attentive staff who have had an unsettling upheaval of renovations that took place making it upsetting for staff and patients in my opinion it was very poorly planned and exceptionally drawn out. Staff have been more attentive with attention to detail since the return of a senior member
to the dementia area.
Reply from Renaud Sockalingum, Home Manager at TrembathsThank you for your feedback, which will be passed on to the team members. Renovation works are never easy in a busy care home and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are now back on track with the most pleasant and safer surroundings for all our residents.

Since her admission following several falls at home, my mother-in-law has been so much happier. The standard of care is excellent and the home was rigorous to protect residents from covid. She looks well and is well cared for. Her key worker is kindness itself. We find Trembaths to be a well-run home
with excellent care.

The home provides a warm and welcoming feel for relatives. Residents are well cared for and treated with respect. Communication with staff and relatives is good and I feel our voices are heard. New younger staff need to be mentored by experienced staff so they quickly learn how to support residents
with dignity and communicate about them with respect - their role is more than a job!

Incredibly caring staff. My Dad was wonderfully looked after during a long period as his health very gradually deteriorated. At every stage, he continued to receive kind attention whenever he needed it. The home put on many activities to keep all guests stimulated and entertained. Caring staff were
always at hand and keen and attentive no matter how difficult the situation became. Proud my Dad was a resident at this lovely home.

Mum received the best care at Trembaths during her 4 years there. The management and all the staff contribute to making Trembaths a caring and welcoming home. The needs and safety of the residents are always the utmost priority. We highly value all the staff; everyone and every job is a vital part of
making the overall experience at Trembaths a happy and positive experience for residents and their families. The last 2-years have been extremely difficult and challenging for the management and staff but they made every effort to keep residents and families in touch and provided extra care and support to our relatives during times when we couldn't visit. The end of life care that our Mum received was exceptional. The kindness of all the staff, the quality of care that Mum received and the care and compassion showed to us as a family was amazing. During those difficult last few months, we felt reassured that our Mum was being given the best possible care and respect. Thank you for caring for our Mum.
Reply from Renaud Sockalingum, Home Manager at TrembathsThank you for those wonderful comments and I will ensure this is passed on to our team. Mum was part of our family at Trembaths and it was an immense pleasure for all of us to have had such positive experiences with all your family members.

My Mum was there for 4 years and it definitely prolonged her life, due to the care of the staff who always went the extra mile to make sure she was happy. Nothing was ever too much, we were really impressed that we could also take our dog in to see Mum. The management were always great with us, always
keeping us updated if Mum had any problems and were very supportive and honest regarding Mum's health. We felt that she was in good hands and she was happy being there.

My 90-year-old uncle has been a resident at Trembaths for three years and in that time, he has been very well looked after by the staff. He can be quite a difficult character because of his dementia, but he has settled well there and the staff have got to know him and understand his foibles. He seems
to be very happy with his routine at Trembaths. It was his 90th birthday in October and the staff were extremely supportive of having a small party for him and many family members and he had a great time. My thanks go to the staff for helping to organise it. Also, thanks to the events coordinator, who has been great in facilitating video calls with my uncle, as I live some way away.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.697)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.697) out of 10 for Trembaths is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.697 for Trembaths is calculated as follows: ( (281 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 356 Ratings = 4.697
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Trembaths is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
