Reviews

9 Highfield Nursing Home has a Review Score of 9 (9.016)

The Review Score of 9 (maximum of 10) for Highfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Highfield Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.831 for Highfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (49 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.831

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.185 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Nursing Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 9.2 positive Reviews (46 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 9.2 Target = 0.435

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother spent the last three years of her life at Highfield. The staff profile, of mixed age, experience and nationality was well balanced, bringing empathy and variety to each day.

The chefs worked hard to produce her personalised diet; providing a simple, hot evening meal that I could assist with. This sustained her deteriorating health and was greatly appreciated.

The health care assistants quickly got to know her preferences for receiving personal care, during which time some lasting, good relationships were built and a sense of humour shared.

During my daily visits, the availability of a visitors’ kitchenette and use of free Wi-fi was a great convenience.

Each of the nurses was very supportive and giving of themselves, enabling my mother to feel part of the ‘outside’ world. They were also a good support to me. I was particularly grateful to the ‘key’ nurse who fully involved me with the care plan and expertly prepared me for the inevitable at exactly the right time.

My wife went into Highfield Nursing Home in April 2016. She had suffered from Vascular Dementia for some years having been cared for at home by our family and carers who came in two or three times a day to help wash and dress her and help her to bed at night. Eventually, it became obvious that she would need to enter a nursing home for her own safety. At first, she was rather "difficult" and uncooperative but in a short while our whole family saw that she had become more rested, peaceful. Of course, she had good days and bad which is common with her illness but the care, love and attention she received from the staff had done this. Above all she was safe and her personal care was extremely well looked after. I was always treated perfectly by the staff and kept fully informed at all times.

All the staff are very friendly, efficient and are very quick to cope with any eventuality. Plenty of staff too.
Directly one enters this nursing home it feels so homely and all the staff give you a friendly greeting no smells either with plenty of flowers in various areas. The staff never mind when I visit either.

Mum was in the last stages of dementia when she attended Highfield in Nov-Dec last year. She was tired and distressed and was slowly losing her powers of speech and understanding. The staff of Highfield were unfailingly kind and gentle toward her at this difficult time and always treated her with respect and dignity. Her personal care was spotless. As her main carer for many years this was so important to me, anything else would have been too distressing for words.
So my thanks to all at Highfield for their tender care and support through such a difficult and stressful time for the family.

I have been a resident in Highfield since November 2013 and am very happy here. The staff are very caring and look after you well. The matron is very accessible if you have any problems and so are the directors. Their menu is very varied and you can ask for something else if you don't like what is on offer.
