Highfield Nursing Home is a beautiful converted Victorian Gentleman's Residence that is now fitted and fully-resourced for modern care requirements, with the addition of a purpose-built extension specifically designed for dementia patients.

A secluded outdoor courtyard is popular with residents, as is the welcoming communal lounge area where they can enjoy the daily scheduled activities which also include trips out or, if preferred residents can enjoy some quiet time in one of the quiet seating areas. Fresh, homemade meals can be enjoyed in the dining area.

Other facilities at Highfield include a hairdressing salon, an all inclusive laundry service and access to video calling to keep in touch with family and friends.

From day one, the home is structured around person-centred goals, with the aim of promoting independence, supporting a relaxing lifestyle and better quality of life.

Highfields a very happy place to be al, the staff do their very best to keep the residents as healthy and happy as possible considering why they are there. It doesn't matter how long they are there for i.e 6 weeks or in many cases many years,
Their mental state is also very well looked after with
many activities, games, colouring, a lot of music which they can sing along with. Patients are brought along even if they cannot participate.
Reply from Kim Haines, Regional Operations Manager at Highfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind review.
We're really pleased to hear that you feel Highfield is a happy place to be. Our team always aims to provide the best possible care and support, and it's lovely to know that this has been reflected in your experience.
We're especially glad that the activities, music and inclusive approach have helped support residents' wellbeing, as this is something we feel is very important.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback, it truly means a lot to the whole team.

The whole place is perfect, just wondering if I can book my place? The staff are very attentive, making sure they have what they want and are supposed to have. Always clean, warm and tidy. Food is one of the best I have seen. Dinners are great, as are the other meals. There is always a nice atmosphere
welcoming, and pleasant. Always something to do for the residents, which I help with,

Mum came to Highfield when I could no longer cope with her condition. The staff are truly exceptional at the home, nothing was too much trouble. The management staff on Mum's admittance were so kind during such a stressful time for us. Mum received excellent care from all the staff with such patience.
I shall forever be indebted to the home for making it a positive experience

Mum was at Highfield for such a short time. She had been discharged from hospital to Highfield where it was more than apparent that mum was actually palliative. The care she received was excellent. Every member of staff treated mum and her family with kindness, compassion and love. We are forever grateful
that staff made mum's last weeks comfortable, peaceful and dignified.
Reply from Hayley Jeneson, Home Manager at Highfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind words, Mum made a big impact on us all at Highfield and will always be remembered. My sister says "excellent - Very highly recommend".
My sister is a new woman since she's been here. Her needs are being met beyond our expectations and we feel overwhelmed by it all. She is engaging in conversations and some activities. She says she's human now. Can't praise Highfield and all staff
enough.

My dad had dementia. He was in hospital with an infection and it became clear he wouldn't be able to return home. He didn't want to go into a care home so we described it to him as a posh hotel. From the very beginning everyone at Highfield welcomed not only dad but all of the family. He was only there
for a short time but they looked after us all and it was lovely to be able to visit at any time and bring the dog with us. Tea and cake was always plentiful and the various lounges meant we could get him out of his room. During a very difficult time for us as a family the team of staff helped make it so much easier. We could relax knowing he was in safe hands.
Reply from Lindsay Mahoney, Hospitality & Wellbeing Manager at Highfield Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to write this review. It is heart warming to hear how welcome your dad and you as a family were made to feel at Highfield. We will pass on your kind words to the team at Highfield.

My father came into the home a few weeks ago, and from the initial meeting we were all welcomed into this very loving home. The staff go our of their way to care for every residents needs and are very attentive, not just to the residents medical needs, but to their happiness. The entertainment ladies
are brilliant bringing lots of artists and entertainers to bring joy to the residents. They even took our dad to the theatre, and he had a very special time. Me and my family would like to thank all of Highfield Nursing Home a big thank you. Each and every one of you are second to none and you all deserve a massive applaud.

Clean and warm with friendly staff. Worryingly service user smelt of urine on more than one occasion. His wardrobe now looks like a warzone, clothes shoved everywhere all messed up. Number of residents have fallen recently and is still going down.
Promised trips out in minibus don't seem to have materialised.
Lack
of contact between home and relatives when things needed, service user was without socks for a period but we were not informed.
No sign of home manager for several weeks.

My brother was discharged from the hospital to Highfield on the 20th of January 2024.
Within days there was a marked improvement in the way he looked and he appeared happy and reasonably settled. He always looks clean-shaven and is very happy with the food and drink offered. Within days of requesting
care for getting more mobile, having a haircut or attention to his feet, the job is done! It is such a relief to our family to see him cared for so well. A big 'thank you' to all concerned.

Staff support nicely, need more washing days for clothing, need more gluten-free options as we have been buying our own. Evening dinner needs more options and a hot dinner option. Family always made welcome. An option to have lunch with family members would be nice.
Reply from Jenni Laffoley, Brand marketing manager at Highfield Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We take all feedback seriously and welcome suggestions on how we can improve our services. We offer a hot option in the evenings, but we are happy to look at how we can offer more of our resident's favourites into the menu options, our team will be happy to discuss this with you. We will also speak to the kitchen about incorporating more gluten-free options. Family members are always welcome to join residents for mealtimes and if there is a special occasion you would like us to cater for, we are more than happy to work with you to host a family lunch. Please do get in contact with us directly at the home and speak to the staff so we can discuss your comments in more detail and ensure all your needs are being met, including facilitating additional washing as required.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.716)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.716) out of 10 for Highfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.791 for Highfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (175 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 215 Ratings = 4.791
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Nursing Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
