Review of

Newland House

from Andrew C (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 3 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
We were very pleased with the care the staff provided for Auntie Stella during a three-week period of respite over Christmas and New Year. She was clearly well looked after and the staff were very attentive to her being new to the home and aware of her needs at such a sensitive and critical time. Communications
before, during and after the period of respite could not have been better. Staff were always available to answer questions in a friendly and helpful way. The standard of Auntie Stella's room, the quality of the food and choices available were all very good. The home always seemed very calm and relaxed and well organised, and the staff went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and valued. The staff clearly love their work, love the home and want to do their very best for everyone. The home feels like a haven of safety and security for evryone who lives and works there. As the PoA of my aunt, I felt that I could not have entrusted her to a better care home. Outstanding.

Highfields a very happy place to be al, the staff do their very best to keep the residents as healthy and happy as possible considering why they are there. It doesn't matter how long they are there for i.e 6 weeks or in many cases many years,
Their mental state is also very well looked after with
many activities, games, colouring, a lot of music which they can sing along with. Patients are brought along even if they cannot participate.
Reply from Kim Haines, Regional Operations Manager at Highfield Nursing HomeThank you so much for your kind review.
We're really pleased to hear that you feel Highfield is a happy place to be. Our team always aims to provide the best possible care and support, and it's lovely to know that this has been reflected in your experience.
We're especially glad that the activities, music and inclusive approach have helped support residents' wellbeing, as this is something we feel is very important.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback, it truly means a lot to the whole team.

Since my father moved into Burnham Lodge last April, I just wanted to re-iterate how pleased we are with the care and love that dad receives from the staff at the Home.
Nothing is too much trouble, and dad's needs are always attended to in a professional and caring manner.
He is treated like a member
of the family, which is how the care home feels whenever we visit.
Thank you to all of the amazing staff.

Every visit has been a pleasant one - staff ALWAYS cheerful, polite, respectful and friendly, providing a compassionate, caring environment for our vulnerable loved one. The level of attention is great and response to the buzzer has always been quick with requests met as soon as is possible. We have
always received a warm welcoming response from all members of staff, who have treated our relative with dignity and respect in a safe and secure environment. We have been very grateful for the care and attention our loved on has received.

As soon as I entered this care home I knew this was the place for my husband who had lost all mental capacity but needed specialized, loving care. There was just a lovely warm, busy and friendly atmosphere from the staff and residents and the environment was impressive with well decorated spacious
rooms in a beautiful old building.
The care was good and my husband was well looked after with one to one care. He was always well turned out, clean and nothing was too much trouble. Although he was wheelchair bound and unaware what was happening around him, the carers ensured he was out of his room and joined in with the activities scheduled for the day or was out in the impressive grounds during the warmer weather.
The home has a lot going on throughout the day and everyone is encouraged to participate in activities in the two day rooms or go out on local day trips. I would definitely recommend this home and thank everyone for making my husband's last days so comfortable and happy.

First impression of home were very good. Administrative staff very pleasant and helpful care staff generally good although patients has to wait a long time when needed help and carers were sitting around chatting! Food and drinks okay but some portions small for the more hungry patients. Not a good
idea to have tall jugs which I witnessed being tipped over and contents split on a daily basis. Rooms well equipped, bedding poor quality. Cleaning in some areas not good, for example, toilet bowls, and light shades covered in cobwebs.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I have taken all your comments on board and have shared them with the team. I will review the bedding and speak with the kitchen team re the portions. We have also employed a new housekeeper to assist with the upkeep of the unit. I am pleased your stay was comfortable, and we were able to support you to get back to your home environment.
Kind regards
Gail and the PAU Team.

My father was in the long term care for just under two years suffering from dementia. Dad was a very difficult person and sadly his dementia made him verbally and physically challenging. The management team and all the staff were so supportive our family throughout the whole journey. As one of the family
visited Dad every day we got to know the staff and they were always friendly and so compassionate even when Dad was so challenging. He had a great bright room the cleaning team worked tirelessly to keep the standards up. Dad always enjoyed his meals and as he declined the staff and I tried so many different options to get nutrients into dad. The entertainment team tried with dad but he was happy to be in his room with the TV but the team would still pop into see him On a personal note as Dad declined and we spent more time with him the compassion we were shown by all the staff was so touching.as Dad declined we were shown compassion and support the whole time. Thank you all

Our family could not recommend Hawkhurst House more highly. Everyone there has been amazingly kind and friendly, and the care provided to my father over the last two and a half years has been excellent. During every visit, I encountered a team of wonderful people who were consistently caring and compassionate.

The

home is immaculately kept and maintains a bright, happy atmosphere. The food is also lovely, including freshly baked treats every day. While it is always incredibly difficult when a loved one needs to move into care, your team made the transition for my dad as smooth as possible.

Thank you to the entire team for being so brilliant.

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst HouseThank you so much for this very kind feedback about the service and our home. We are extremely grateful you chose Hawkhurst House and entrusted your Dad to our care. As you say in your feedback, it is a difficult decision to make to move a loved one into a care home and we are pleased we were able support you, your Dad and the family with that transition.

Alton Place has truly been a wonderful choice for my Dad, and I'm so glad we decided to bring him here. He absolutely loves the daily activities, which keep him engaged, active, and happy. The entertainers who visit are a real highlight.

What really sets Alton Place apart, though, is the staff. Every

single person is so caring, kind, and attentive, and it gives me real peace of mind knowing my Dad is surrounded by people who genuinely care about his well-being. It feels warm, welcoming, and supportive-more like a community than a facility. I couldn't be happier with our experience at Alton Place, and neither could it Dad.

Since our very first visit to Alton Place we knew mum would be happy here. The staff are amazing, they are always smiling and go above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. Prior to moving to Alton Place mum wasn't able to go out very much but since moving she has been out on numerous outings and
takes part in a variety of activities, many of which are open to families and friends too. The care home has different areas that mum can enjoy such as the cafe and cinema room.
If you are looking for a care home for a loved one, I could not recommend Alton Place enough.

anything they will go and beyond to make sure that she had everything to hand . not just the carers it's the House Keepers aswell they keep the the place going , very clean doesn't have smell like other homes have . and the kitchen staff works hard making sure that dinners are presented lovely and making sure that special requirements to the service users are met to all kind of allergies and Dietarys as well .. i don't think that house keepers and kitchen staff don't get enough credit for there hard work ...

All the staff that we have met have even helpful, friendly and polite.
They go out of their way to help in all aspects.
Nothing is too much for any of them.

My family would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all staff for the kindness, care and compassion that was given to our dear mum.
She was only with you for a relatively short period of her long life of 95 years but you all helped her to initially accept that she was
safer in a care home setting and then you all did everything you could to make her comfortable and as happy as possible.
We cannot name you all but we would like to highlight the roles within the home: nurses, carers, activity, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, kitchen and handyman that all played a significant part in looking after mum. We know she enjoyed many a chat with you all about her past life and travels.
We would also like to thank the staff for the respectful and dignified way that they cared for mum and ourselves in her last three days.

My mother in law moved into the PAU in November from hospital and an interim home. Gail and her entire team were brilliant in helping getting her moved to HH which is now her permanent home. The care, dignity and respect she has received is outstanding and the whole environment is brilliant. Having
been quite reclusive over the past few years (not a natural thing for a former publican) she is back to her former outgoing self, knowing she is in a place of safety and security - it's the best she has looked in years.
The whole home is geared to keeping its residents as active and involved as possible with multiple areas to sit and relax in and lots of activities on a daily basis.
The room (they are all the same) is brilliant- more a bed-sit with kitchenette, definitely not just a bedroom where you are confined to (like in other homes we looked at) with its own proper sitting area so you don't feel you are visiting someone's bedroom.
Thank you to EVERYONE who is involved in caring for her
