Reviews

9.7 Tegfield House has a Review Score of 9.7 (9.706)

The Review Score of 9.7 (maximum of 10) for Tegfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 25 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Tegfield House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.706 for Tegfield House is calculated as follows: ( (216 Excellents x 5) + (78 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 299 Ratings = 4.706

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tegfield House is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 4.8 positive Reviews (24 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 10 Reviews ÷ 4.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother spends two days a week at Tegfield House to give the family a break and give her stimulation and interest. She is 96 and profoundly deaf but the staff treat her so warmly and genuinely and she is very happy to be there. I am so pleased with the professional and caring staff at the facility and very grateful to them for such good care. I know that should she need to become a fulltime resident she would be happy.

My mum started doing daycare at Tegfield once per week. The daycare includes activities and lunch. Mum was always happy to go to Tegfield and it gave her insight into what life is like in a care home. We found the manager and staff to be exceptionally attentive and friendly towards the residents and their families. Every resident seems to be valued and treated as an individual. The home is very homely, and there is a beautiful garden.
Seeing this care home impressed me and my family with its high standards and made us realise that care homes can be very happy places if, as at Tegfield, the staff are committed to supporting each resident to have a happy life.

Thank you for this lovely review, we are so happy to be able to support people like your lovely Mum to have enjoyable times in their later years.

The moment we arrived at Tegfield House and had a look around, we knew we had made the right decision for mum. The house is lovely, it might not be state of the art but it is a home - warm, welcoming and friendly. The staff are amazing, they all go that extra mile to make sure residents are happy.

I have my mum back or should say Mum has a new lease of life. She is joining in activities and chatting to people, but still has the privacy of her own room and space when she needs some quiet time. All family members and friends are made to feel welcome at any time.

The home is nicely decorated with nice bright colours which Mum loves and the gardens are super, lovely to sit out and chill, and residents all seem very happy.

This is an old building but is filled with love, care and compassion from all staff, who have made it into a home for one very large family, and knowing Mum is happy is the best thing.

Thank you, and bless you all.

Thank you for your kind words, we are so happy to have your Mum as a part of our little family and look forward to supporting her for many years to come.

My brother in law was resident at Tegfield House from November 2016 until his death. I have nothing but praise for the care he received.
The staff were very kind to him and welcomed his family with great friendliness.
Great efforts were made to encourage residents to participate in a program of activities. The home always appeared clean and the rooms were decorated in bright, attractive colours.
I would recommend it to anyone. Every resident was valued and treated as an individual.
Thank you.

Tegfield House was delighted to be able to support your lovely brother-in-law. We were privileged to know him and his family. Thank you for your kind words and for your continued support.

My mother in law lived at Tegfield House for seven years, until recently she passed away. During that time she received excellent care, she frequently told me how kind the staff were and this was very evident when we visited. Not only do they have an excellent care and management team, they also have a great chef, cleaners, maintenance team, gardeners and activities coordinator.
As well as meeting her care needs there was always someone to share a joke with, to bake her a special birthday care or sort out her room if required.
I would not hesitate to recommend Tegfield House.

Tegfield House would like to express our thanks for your kind words. It was our absolute pleasure to support your lovely mother-in-law and we were so glad to get to know her family too.

My mother moved into Tegfield House in February 2016 for a month's respite stay when she became more frail and no longer wanted to live on her own.
From the time she arrived, she wanted to stay permanently. She found the staff to be very caring, friendly and cheerful at all times.
As a family, we greatly appreciated Tegfield's efforts to offer Mum and other residents individually-tailored care.
Sadly she became physically unwell in March 2017 and gradually deteriorated from a long-term condition.
My brother and I discussed Mum's wishes with her for end-of-life care.
It is to Tegfield's great credit that Mum chose to remain "with my friends" as she used to refer to the staff.
Mum passed away peacefully in August 2017 at Tegfield House with my brother and I present.
I am a GP myself and I have rarely seen such professional, outstanding end-of-life care provided in a residential home.
With truly grateful thanks to all the staff.

Dear Carol,

Thank you for your kind words. It means a great deal to the whole team to see that their hard work is recognised.
It was our pleasure and privilege to support your Mother and we hope that our care brought comfort to you as well as her as she reached the end of her life. She was a much-loved member of our little community and she will not be forgotten by her friends.

My wife receives kind and careful attention during the day she spends at Tegfield House. The staff from top to bottom are welcoming and willing to discuss my wife's' condition and problems. The home is warm and comfortable. My wife is unable to express her own opinions so my remarks are from my own observations.

Having to make a decision as to where your loved one is to be cared for and be happy is a most difficult experience. Overwhelming were the visits to other care homes which were not suitable to my mother's needs. Arriving at the door of Tegfield House was like a breath of fresh air. Homely, caring, clean and inspiring from the start. Being constantly reassured that my mother was safe and happy, her medical needs which, were becoming more complex, were being addressed. The support of the staff to both mum and I has been amazing, keeping me in the loop of mum's needs and also reminding me of my needs. I can't thank them enough.

I can definitely recommend Tegfield House. The manager and staff had always been welcoming and encouraged both family and friends to visit regularly. On every visit, it was clear that my mother-in-law was very happy; she made lots of friends and was always full of praise for the staff. The staff were always warm and friendly who consistently demonstrated their understanding of her condition by providing lots of engaging activities and regular updates of her progress. The manager and staff were always approachable and we never felt there were any barriers to honest communication. We particularly appreciated the kindness shown at all times that meant we were confident that a much-loved member of the family was in a safe and homely environment. We feel very lucky to have found a truly caring home in a beautiful setting with committed, knowledgeable, well trained and above all, friendly staff.

Mum had started her time at Tegfield as a daycare visitor, which she thoroughly enjoyed. As her Dementia worsened she was lucky enough a bed became available and moved in permanently in July 2015. The staff are kind and friendly, always knew where Mum was when I visited and kept me up to date on her wellbeing. She made loads of new friends and her old friends enjoyed visiting her and taking her out for a few hours. Tegfield feels just like your own home, which was one of the reasons we chose it.

My mother arrived at Tegfield House in February 2016 and has been very well looked after. The carers are very kind and friendly and always know where she is when I arrive to see her. There is a very low turnover of staff so there is a good continuity of care and familiarity for the residents. The home is comfortable, warm and cosy, so although things aren't state of the art, it feels like home.

My aunt loved being in Tegfield House. She had friends and independence in her earlier days there. As she got older and needed more care, staff were there for her. She loved the varied activities on offer if she wanted to join in. Being free to wander in the gardens was so important to her and the staff supported this. Staff were warm and welcoming.

After 3 weeks in hospital after a stroke I was welcomed to the home for 3-4 weeks respite care. I slept really well which was greatly needed and enjoyed the quiet. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. It was my choice to eat in my room, though I would be welcome in the bright dining room. They helped me with my walking emergencies when able.

My mother moved into this care home in early December 2015. She remained in the home until her death in February 2016. The home were flexible in respect of my mothers 'end of life' situation and were able to be understanding of the uncertain length of time we needed the room.
My mum was treated with dignity, and I cannot fault the friendliness and compassion shown to my mother at a very difficult time. The management were very approachable. They were very efficient at calling in the community nurses if needed.

I love the security of knowing you have someone here all the time. The management and staff are all very kind and caring. Nothing is too much for them. I am able to live the way I choose in a really warm, safe and comfortable environment.

I have been visiting the care home for over 7 months and have gained a fair amount of insight into how Tegfield House works to be a home for the residents there. In this time I have been impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff towards their job, as well as the genuine companionship they show.

All care homes risk becoming a place of sedation and sedentary life; a place to while away the end of life. Tegfield strives to enable it to be a place of livelihood (with board games, parties, a beautiful garden with pet birds) and a place to peacefully relax. In needs both, after all, as it needs to be home. It has it's areas that could be strengthened, such as having the TV on for less time and more music/cognitive-engaging activities. Nevertheless, as a place of cleanliness and friendliness, it is top class.

Some of the most hilarious and encouraging times there have been to see the residents playing Bingo and word-searches together. It is a place that facilitates living, not just end of life.

Mum had struggled a bit with vascular dementia and had been at Tegfield for her last two years. She settled in very quickly and made immediate friends with the staff. We were confident that she was comfortable, had a lovely room and was very well cared for and looked after. The staff were kind and warm and understanding and we felt she had arrived at the ideal place to spend her last years in pleasant surroundings and in safety.

The home itself is in lovely grounds and she enjoyed a walk around the gardens to see the aviary. She loved her food and was amply supplied! She preferred not to join in many activities that were on offer, but that was fine.

In her final days the manager and the staff were hugely supportive and nursed her with love. They understood we did not want her moved and were able to provide the care she needed. They handled her passing in the way we would all have wished and we are certain she could not have been better cared for, better settled or better looked after as she gradually faded.

Our sincere thanks to everyone at Tegfield.

My mother arrived end of March at Tegfield. The staff have been fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble and they are so kind to us as well as my mother. The room she has was newly painted and new carpets and she quickly settled in. She has had some medical complications but they have been dealt with efficiently, with kindness and dignity. We much appreciate all the staff do.

I feel like I needed to submit a review following recent conversations with the Management team at Tegfield House as it dawned on me that they do not get the credit they deserve as their efforts go unrecognised. I have looked through other reviews which talk about the staff and the wonderful things they do and this is becasue this is very visual however the good care that is delivered is led by those managing the home. Tegfield House is the home that is is because of the way it which it is managed and led. We had no hesitation is choosing Tegfield when we had looked at so many others. We were made to feel welcome the moment we walked through the door. We were not rushed and the time we spent asking many questions was never an issue. One home we viewed, they kept looking at their watch which was so off putting. The welcome we got was amazing and this was not just because they were trying to sell us a room, this was completely natural, Actually the Manager discussed other alternatives for my Mum in Law as it was felt she may not quite be ready for full time care so she actually started off as Day care. This in itself worked really well and made the transition into the home full time a much easier process. I would 100% recommend this approach especially if your loved one has dementia. We feel very much part of the family at Tegfield and we know that Mum in Law is happy, safe and secure and has made some really good friends. Tegfied is so relaxed which I feel this in turn creates a relaxing atmosphere and environment for the Residents living there. This is very important especially with those suffering from Dementia and I know that Mum in Law best interests are at the centre of everything they do.

I am extremely happy with the quality of care provided for my mother at Tegfield House. Since Mum moved in full time in March she has been very happy and she settled in really quickly. Mum loved Tegfield House from the moment she started day care in January, so she was delighted when a room became available for her. She is eating well again, enjoys taking part in the activities and she enjoys the companionship. There is a lovely, family atmosphere at Tegfield House and the staff have been consistently welcoming and friendly. The staff know Mum well and I am reassured that I am leaving her in good hands. I have been visitng Tegfield for Several months now and I have always found the home warm, welcoming and friendly. Everyone seems to be so happy. The Manager and Staff are always polite, accomodating and refreshments are always offered on arrival. I get a service with a smile which seems to be very rare these days. Everyone you see around the home always say "Hello". The gardens are amazing and I particularly love the beach themed area and the aviary providing focal points of interest. Everyone is like one big family. I have got to know some of the other residents in the home that join in with a chat which is so lovely. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone and whoever is fortunate to live at Tegfield they will be very happy indeed
