First impression of home were very good. Administrative staff very pleasant and helpful care staff generally good although patients has to wait a long time when needed help and carers were sitting around chatting! Food and drinks okay but some portions small for the more hungry patients. Not a good
idea to have tall jugs which I witnessed being tipped over and contents split on a daily basis. Rooms well equipped, bedding poor quality. Cleaning in some areas not good, for example, toilet bowls, and light shades covered in cobwebs.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I have taken all your comments on board and have shared them with the team. I will review the bedding and speak with the kitchen team re the portions. We have also employed a new housekeeper to assist with the upkeep of the unit. I am pleased your stay was comfortable, and we were able to support you to get back to your home environment.
Kind regards
Gail and the PAU Team.

My father was in the long term care for just under two years suffering from dementia. Dad was a very difficult person and sadly his dementia made him verbally and physically challenging. The management team and all the staff were so supportive our family throughout the whole journey. As one of the family
visited Dad every day we got to know the staff and they were always friendly and so compassionate even when Dad was so challenging. He had a great bright room the cleaning team worked tirelessly to keep the standards up. Dad always enjoyed his meals and as he declined the staff and I tried so many different options to get nutrients into dad. The entertainment team tried with dad but he was happy to be in his room with the TV but the team would still pop into see him On a personal note as Dad declined and we spent more time with him the compassion we were shown by all the staff was so touching.as Dad declined we were shown compassion and support the whole time. Thank you all

Our family could not recommend Hawkhurst House more highly. Everyone there has been amazingly kind and friendly, and the care provided to my father over the last two and a half years has been excellent. During every visit, I encountered a team of wonderful people who were consistently caring and compassionate.

The

home is immaculately kept and maintains a bright, happy atmosphere. The food is also lovely, including freshly baked treats every day. While it is always incredibly difficult when a loved one needs to move into care, your team made the transition for my dad as smooth as possible.

Thank you to the entire team for being so brilliant.

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst HouseThank you so much for this very kind feedback about the service and our home. We are extremely grateful you chose Hawkhurst House and entrusted your Dad to our care. As you say in your feedback, it is a difficult decision to make to move a loved one into a care home and we are pleased we were able support you, your Dad and the family with that transition.

My mother in law moved into the PAU in November from hospital and an interim home. Gail and her entire team were brilliant in helping getting her moved to HH which is now her permanent home. The care, dignity and respect she has received is outstanding and the whole environment is brilliant. Having
been quite reclusive over the past few years (not a natural thing for a former publican) she is back to her former outgoing self, knowing she is in a place of safety and security - it's the best she has looked in years.
The whole home is geared to keeping its residents as active and involved as possible with multiple areas to sit and relax in and lots of activities on a daily basis.
The room (they are all the same) is brilliant- more a bed-sit with kitchenette, definitely not just a bedroom where you are confined to (like in other homes we looked at) with its own proper sitting area so you don't feel you are visiting someone's bedroom.
Thank you to EVERYONE who is involved in caring for her

Our Mum has been in Hawkinge House long term dementia care for a year now. Her care has been amazing from the start. The staff have taken the time to get to know us as a family and have welcomed us into the home with open arms. The time and effort the staff put into looking after all the residents not
just our mum is incredible.
Dementia progresses and takes on so many forms and the way the staff have adapted to our mums needs as her dementia has progressed is so touching and heartfelt. We as a family are always informed and updated on anything that may affect our mums health and wellbeing.
There are many activities which take place throughout the week from singing, karaoke, arts and crafts and sensory activities. Whichever activity is taking place the staff will always find a way of including everybody.
Our Dad goes in almost every day to spend time with mum and the staff have become extended family. Thank you all for your kindness it is so appreciated.
Reply from Tara Peacock, Registered Manager at Hawkinge HouseThank you so much for your lovely review of our home. My team are committed to providing compassionate, person centred dementia care and we truly feel that our residents and their loved ones are like family.

Mum arrived in November to HH, she was extremely frail and traumatised by her sudden decline in health, mobility and independence. Gail and her team were incredibly supportive and with a wealth of experience and knowledge, helped mum transition into her new home gently and quickly. They have been so
kind, not only mums physical needs but also her mental needs have been cared for, Fast forward to January and mum is transformed! The rehabilitation, physio and care teams plus frequent GP service give Mum outstanding care; her suite is beautifully laid out and decorated, with not only practical needs met but mental needs considered, designed into zones so it feels more like home, her own wet room provides privacy and dignity which is so important. Mums room is beautifully clean as is the rest of HH, her laundry is done in hours - I haven't seen Mum this happy in years ! HH's vibe is one of happiness, fun and kindness in spadefuls. Thank you.

Both of my parents needed to go into a care home due to their health and problems. In my eyes we couldn't have found a better home. They both have been living there for 3 years this year, I haven't had to worry once in this time, as the care, help, food etc is 1st class, you can tell this as mum and
dad have always been happy.
Unfortunately we lost Dad a couple of months back, a sad time, but the home and the care we all had helped us through this difficult period. The home also let us have dads wake back at the home, this made things easier for mum to be in her familiar surroundings and it was nice as it also allowed the residents to join in with us, couldn't have asked for the afternoon to go any better, it was lovely. It also allowed us all to enjoy some of the lovely food that the home caters / provides on a daily basis, yum.
Mum is adjusting to living on her own now, the carers are looking after her nicely, I wouldn't want mum to be anywhere else.
Reply from Sarah Potts, Manager at Woodchurch HouseThank you so much for sharing your experience and for your kind words about Woodchurch House.
We're truly sorry for the loss of dad, he was a gentleman and a member of the Woodchurch House family. We were honoured to support you and your family during such a difficult time. It was our privilege to host his wake and to help make the day as comforting and meaningful as possible, especially for mum in familiar surroundings. We're pleased to hear she continues to be well supported and settled.

It is impossible to encapsulate in words our exceptional experience at Woodchurch House. From the very first second on the telephone with Jino, to the compassionate support from all staff, carers and reception manager, it felt like a sanctuary. My mother received the utmost kindness and truly dignified
care that extended to her family. During the most difficult and poignant of times, we were supported, listened to and made to feel safe. I saw how all residents were honoured and treated with personal attention, kindness and respect. I had no fear of leaving my loved one in their more than capable care. The entire facility is clean, comfortable and welcoming. All staff we encountered were so attentive, with sincere focus on caring for and pleasing their residents. They alleviated countless fears, and went beyond any expectation. This is humanity at its finest. Our sincere gratitude to all staff we encountered.

Dad has been in long term care on the ground floor for almost nine months. He has a slow form of motor neurone disease and is 85 years old. Since moving into Hawkinge House, the staff have been extremely attentive and caring towards his needs. From the management & admin team, to the nurses, frontline
carers, entertainers, cleaners, chefs and maintenance crew, their experience, professionalism and friendliness towards residents, families and friends is second to none. With Dad's condition continuously worsening, the staff have been proactive in liaising with medical professionals and keeping us informed at every step. I am very pleased that Dad was welcomed into Hawkinge House and the transition was seamless. Although Dad cannot communicate like most residents there is always an underlying sense of friendship & community. We appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining these standards from day to day and would like to thank the entire team for their ongoing efforts.

I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The standards of hygiene are very high, and I am always kept in touch with how my Uncle is doing. He is not the easiest of residents, but the staff always treat him with respect and dignity. I would highly recommend this home to others and
cannot speak highly enough of the staff.

Mum originally went to HH for rehabilitation following a hip replacement.

Mum was rehabilitated and now walks really well with a zimmer & receives regular exercise

Mum settled well & we as family including Mum decided HH would be Mums new home

Her care suite is home from home and is surrounded

by some of her furniture & personal items that are precious to her

Staff are attentive, kind, caring & meet Mums needs
Nothing is too much trouble for them

With a choice of home cooked meals, lots of activities tailored to individual needs , regular medication & company, living at HH has been a big benefit to Mums health & wellbeing both mentally & physically
Thanks so much for all you do not only for mum but for the peace of mind we have knowing Mum is so well cared for

Reply from Gail Watkins, Registered Manager at Hawkhurst House PAUThank you for your kind and lovely review. It is a pleasure to look after Mum and we all enjoy your family visits as well as mum!

Wantsum Lodge

My mother stayed at Wantsum Lodge for two months while recovering from a broken pelvis, and we were very pleased with the care she received. Her room was comfortable, and the staff were competent, patient and friendly. They made my mother's visitors feel very welcome.
During her stay, the team arranged
for her medication to be reviewed and for an audiologist and an optician to visit, ensuring her wider health needs were met. On the day she left, they helped her with a shower, gave her an early lunch, and provided two months' medication to take home.
I first visited Wantsum Lodge on a Sunday morning without an appointment, and the staff were happy to show me around. I found the building light, bright and welcoming. Later, when my mother wanted to see the home before moving in, the staff again gave us a full tour.
Most importantly, my mother said she was happy there and enjoyed the food. Overall, she was very well looked after, and we are grateful for all the care and support.
