Review of Hawkinge House & PAU from H G (Daughter of Resident) published on 25 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Absolutely appalling standard of care, not convinced the staff even know the NMC code let alone practice it. Literally the fault is with the poor care that resulted in a broken hip. Disgusting when my mum appeared to be on the mend. There were multiple issues which still probably occur every day to other patients. CQC this place and get it improved.

Being the only friend of patient in room 31 ground floor, i know what a difficult individual this patient can be, and is! i would like to say how very impressed i am with the care and patience of all the staff involved in his care. I find it hard to believe that anyone could complain about the care and attention being offered at the carehome.

WELL DONE ALL OF YOU!!

Review of Hawkinge House & PAU from C K (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Absolutely the most disgusting care in PAU Unit I have ever witnessed in my life. Negligence, abuse, most of staff very limited english speaking skills. Mums comode bowl covered in someone elses excrement was used to give her morning wash! No one knew how to put boot on correctly after her fracture to fibula. Always excrement left in poorly cleaned comode pot. Very old comode with no armrests and no brakes brought first time then dirty old comode 2nd time. Mum would ring bell for help onto comode and no one would come 25 minutes on one occasion.

On website says physio. Absolutely no physio given. OT after mum fell and broke her hip made her sit on edge of bed and try and stand. 16 hours in agony before ambulance came. Should have been medical emergency no staff should have got her back in bed. Made her do telephone consultation with 111 twice. She is 90 there is so much more. The food is diabolical, no vegetables hardly ever and very sweet sticky puddings. Absolutely the worst place.

Review of Hawkhurst House & PAU from Sharon W (Partner of Resident) published on 10 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My partner had rehabilitation at Hawkhurst House, and we both found it to be a very welcoming and very friendly home. All the staff there are very friendly and kind and nothing is too much trouble. The food is very very good, good selection and very tasty, not to mention the cakes that are available daily to go with the tea and coffee that is all free. Lots to do in activities and there is always something going on. Live entertainment every so often, a singer comes in to sing for the residents, and we just couldn't fault it. My partner didn't want to leave when it was time to be discharged. We got such a warm welcome and that continued throughout the stay.

We made friends and we will miss each and every one at Hawkhurst House. The best place we have ever been.

Reply from Gail Watkins, Registered Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you for the kind and lovely review. It was our pleasure to look after him and meet you. We miss both you being in the lounge and talking with all. I hope all is well with the new home and there are plenty of cakes!

We wish you both all the best.

Review of Hawkinge House & PAU from A O (Son of Resident) published on 6 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Our first experience of adult residential care was disappointing. Our relative had complex needs after a lupus-related ischaemic stroke and left-sided paralysis, yet she was left waiting after using her call bell and did not always receive timely help, empathy or reassurance.

There were recurring Wi-Fi failures, slow responses, missing laundry, and promised physiotherapy that quickly stopped. Due to staff shortages, relatives often stayed to provide practical and emotional support. We were then shocked by management's comments about our presence and overnight stays, despite several relatives living far from Folkestone.

Most concerning was the discharge planning. Medication, GP communication and dosette boxes were not arranged despite advance notice. This contributed to unclear instructions, an incorrect Warfarin dose on the first night at home and an emergency hospital visit. Overall, the care, communication, cultural awareness and discharge preparation fell far below expectations.

Reply from shelly Watson, Registered MAnager at Hawkinge House & PAU

Review of Wantsum Lodge from Jackie D (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Website

My Dad was at Wantsum Lodge for just over 2 & half years. During that time we have made friends with the staff & managers. The care they give is wonderful. They are loving towards their residents & try to make it as comfortable as they can.
They even took in my Father's pet parrot when he moved in.
The food isn't too everyone's taste but you can't cater for that.

I will miss my visits to see my Dad & the staff there.

Review of Ramsgate Care Centre from C D (Daughter of Resident) published on 5 August 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My siblings and I although generally happy with the care my mother is receiving feel that there are areas that can be improved. I can only speak for my own findings as we visit at different times. Also, I can only go by what my mother tells me but my main cause of concern for her is that she spends too much time in her room alone and this is the very reason we decided that living in care may be the best option for her.

Review of Ramsgate Care Centre from R B (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

This was a lovely home with lovely staff but they have all left. Standards have dropped with cleaning and safeguarding issues. When I highlighted 2 problems, one of which was meds left in her room, the manager just shrugged her shoulders. The staff are not as caring as we previously experienced when she first went in there. There is no hand gel in the dispensers despite price hikes which were not advised to us. Considering moving my relative to be honest as not getting the service we originally received and we pay a lot of money for her to be cared for and kept safe.

My Mum was here from March to the beginning of July after breaking her ankle and had received a first class service from start to finish, they helped me find my way and her care and support was superb and the staff and management are so helpful, they've even helped with the transition to getting her home with the help she needs whilst at home! Lovely people, beautiful place and I couldn't recommend too highly! Although my Mum is a wonderful person she has some difficulties which can be hard to manage but everyone here made it look very easy!

In my opinion. Hawkhurst House rivals many five star hotels and I am elated that my dad is a resident here. Not only is his care second to none, but as a result it has also been life changing for my mum as she knows he is safe and well cared for and this has enabled her to enjoy her own life again. I couldn't be happier!

To choose a care home for my husband of 55 years was a very difficult task, I looked at many which I felt not suitable, until I found Hawkhurst House. This beautiful purpose built place has thought of every thing, wonderful secure gardens, clever designed corridors for those that like to wander, spacious rooms with ensuite, delicious home cooked food but most importantly the kindness and care given from all the staff not just to my husband but to me too. I thank the entire team for giving me comfort and peace of mind, knowing my husband is being so well cared for in every way.

I cannot thank everyone at Hawkinge House Care Home enough for the outstanding care they provide to my grandad, Gordon. Knowing he is being looked after by such a caring, compassionate, and professional team gives our family great comfort and peace of mind.
Every day, I leave the care home feeling reassured and confident that my grandad is safe, happy, and receiving the very best care. The staff go above and beyond to ensure his wellbeing, dignity, and comfort are always their top priority.
I would also like to give a special thank you to Charlotte and Diane in the office. They always make time for us as a family, no matter how busy they are, and consistently do their very best to reassure us regarding my grandad's welfare and safety during what has been a very difficult time. Their kindness, understanding, and support mean so much to us.

Hawkinge House is a wonderful care home with a dedicated team who genuinely care about their residents and families. I would 100% recommend
