The Elms was chosen as a stepping stone between leaving hospital after nearly a month, and going home. I had to learn to live with a catheter and manage the regular changing of its components after the hospital doing it all without much advice. That's why my wife was with me most of the time at The Elms. Everyone at The Elms worked together as a good team and their skills were comforting as their kindness to one and all. Accommodation was clean and bright and food more than adequate. In all a friendly caring place with I would think most happy occupants. Being a tempory, fleeting visitor I don't think my stay was typical.

I cannot fault this care home, they are all working super hard and showing great dedication to the patients.

I have had such a great experience at The Elms in Bembridge. I came for respite care and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The staff are amazing. They are friendly, welcoming, helpful, kind and just wonderful human beings! Nothing is too much trouble for them and I cannot sing their praises highly enough.
The accomodation is comfortable, warm and has everything you need; a real home from home. The little touches, such as a welcome pack of toiletries, was so thoughtful. I came straight from hospital and I was provided with certain items that I had truly missed, such as a hand held mirror and a comb. It was magical and made me feel human again.
I joined in with some of the daily activities which were fun and helped to pass the time. The food was delicious and plentiful and there was always a cuppa on hand!

I am so glad that I was sent to The Elms. As I said before, it's a real home away from home.

My Sister has broken her leg & required respite care for a period of time. From the moment she arrived the staff have all been so lovely & kind & made us laugh ! Nothing has been too much trouble, especially a male member of staff JJ who sourced a wheelchair & blew the tyre up for her, nothing seemed to be too much trouble, but peace of mind for her sisters knowing she is in good hands with smiling kind staff every one of you, from the lovely activities lady to the gorgeous little black cat asleep at reception. My sister said the food is also excellent.

I didn't know what to expect in the Elms after a time in hospital. The staff were very welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. I made a point of talking to the residents even the ones who had dementia. A lot of carers/helpers came into the home on a regular basis and I was able to talk to them about their role. In essence, it was a very good experience.

Mum has had quite a few stays in The Elms over the past few years. I have found the staff, including the carers, nurses, housekeeping, laundry, cook and receptionist to be caring and friendly to Mum and us as visiting family. My dear dad has end-stage Multiple Sclerosis and after years of caring for him at home, the very difficult decision was made to place him in permanent nursing care. This was a worrying time, as we had experienced poor levels of care from another home on the island when my partner and I were desperate for respite, however; on admission to The Elms, our worries were quickly laid to rest, as the care and attention given to my dad is exemplary, and usually delivered with a smile, which can honestly make the world of difference! Dad prefers to stay in his room, which may I add, is bright, clean and comfortable, but he is never left for long without being checked which is invaluable for our peace of mind, and we are particularly grateful for the vigilance of the nurses if my dad's condition deteriorates. So a huge THANK YOU to the super-friendly reception and management team, for whom nothing is too much trouble and the wonderful carers and nurses who look after my dad so brilliantly!

Mum has been in The Elms for 2 years. Initially, everything was great. The staff are excellent but standards have drastically slipped. There is no routine timetable or management. Things happen as and when if there's time. New staff are poorly trained, having spoken to several, they are also not happy with this and feel inadequate to carry out their tasks.

Generally pleased with the home. Wrong that the home takes the money given to my mother by the NHS for nursing care on top of the large amount she pays monthly. I should have been told about this at my mother's admittance with paperwork, I received neither. Off-site activities always seem to be the same faces in the pictures, probably because they are mobile, do they pay extra for this privilege? Staffing levels often seem lower at weekends. Could do with water being available for residents in the lounge.

We can't thank the entire staff of The Elms Nursing Home for taking care of our mother! She spent 3 months here at the end of her life and honestly the help and support we received at Elm’s was priceless! We appreciate all the night and day nurses that constantly checked on mum, all the lovely people bringing mum tea or just coming in for a chat. And especially a huge Thank You to Elm’s Manager! You are an Amazing Human Being and you made the last days for our mum better! Thank You for all your invaluable advice, helping mum with English language and just being there next to her when we couldn’t. Thank you for giving mum a chance to have some happy moments when she took care of her little 'garden' on her balcony! We know that meant so much to her!
Another special Thank You to 3 care-ladies who comforted me as a daughter in the final moments. I wouldn't be able to survive it without you. I am forever grateful!

Bless you All!

From the second I arrived I was treated really well and felt welcomed.
The staff are fantastic, friendly, funny and brilliant. My constant banter with them all has been fun and made my stay very enjoyable.
The physiotherapy crew have achieved, in my view, a miracle to get me back on my feet and walking and exercises that due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy is not an easy thing to do. I can not thank them all enough for all their professional support and guidance plus encouragement which has allowed me in only two weeks to be allowed to go home.
The meals here are absolutely delicious. Three meals a day plus biscuits or cake with your morning and afternoon teas and coffees. The meals are very tasty and the variety of dishes per week is excellent.

I will miss this place and especially all the amazing staff, every single one of them. I want to say thank you all for taking such great care of me.

I spent six weeks at the home and received excellent care from the staff and physiotherapists. All the staff were cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was impressed with their attitude, and their friendliness helped me to settle in quickly, dispelling any fears I had about being referred to a nursing home. I have much to thank them for.

I would put the Elms as one of the best homes on the island. The staff are friendly, very encouraging and so helpful. The food is excellent, plenty of choice with care taken for vegetarian foods. An amazing array of things to do every day. Rooms are super, good size and en suite. Lovely garden to sit in and enjoy. It seems nothing is too much trouble, plenty available between meals and at night. My only criticism being the call system. This urgently needs attention, no repeat calling appearing to carers and no emergency call available. The change to the current system was not thought through. The Night Staff numbers definitely require looking at, repeatedly as few as two only, unfair to them and leaving residents unhappy/uncomfortable.

As a person very experienced and qualified in providing care, I think I have a good judgement. It was with great reluctance that I accepted the need for care. Your staff continue to be very aware of ones needs and these they provide with efficiency, patience and cheerfulness, coping with all our requests. In my opinion, I could find nowhere better. I would like to have a face to face discussion occasionally, maybe in a group but not everybody at once, say a group of four or five.

The moment I walked through the door, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, the residents and their loved ones.

I have worked within the care sector for over ten years and have enjoyed every stage of my journey. I began as a Care Assistant and worked my way up the industry ladder. Over time, I’ve discovered that I’m most passionate about working in residential care homes, supporting residents in the final years of their lives. It’s incredibly rewarding to ensure they are safe, living life to the fullest, and able to maintain their independence as much as possible.

I truly enjoy my role at The Elms as the Deputy Manager. We have a very supportive team — like one big family — all dedicated to ensuring our residents’ lives are filled with love, comfort, joy and smiles on all their faces every day. We have great plans for our residents' home, and it’s been great seeing them come into place.
