The Elms Care Home

I am very impressed with all the staff who seem to know my mum well and are very caring toward her and us as a family. Always happy to help. I was extremely pleased with a follow up to some facts I provided about Mum. The doctor has been unformed and phoned me, which allowed us to have a meaningful conversation about Mum's health issues.

The staff clearly love their job.

It is clear my mother has settled well and is pleased to find good activities to enjoy. The care notes system is easily accessible to me, and I can monitor my mother’s progress which is reassuring. I can see all care plans and feel able to comment on these.

Helpful staff - very clean and smells very clean as well. They look after their clients and visitors, and while the Covid-19 is on, they test every visitors. They keep their clients well entertain every day. Thanks to the whole staff; they even have a wall of photo's of all the staff who work there, but they call it The Elms family.

Both my grandparents have now been looked after by the wonderful staff at The Elms. During the past difficult year, while we have been unable to visits, the staff have helped us to remain in contact, and I have no doubts that the residents are being well looked after. The activities team, in particular, have provided great entertainment for residents. Would definitely recommend.

I feel that the manager and all the staff at The Elms Nursing Home deserve medals for the care and professionalism they have shown during this pandemic - often putting themselves at risk. Every person treated my mum with dignity, respect and love, just as they did for my dad, to my daughter and me. We think of them as part of our family, and even though my beloved Mum is no longer with them, we will always stay in touch. Thank you all for what you did for us as a family.

Due to COVID-19, my contact with the home have been by phone or brief encounters in the Reception area. At no time was I made to feel that I was being a nuisance despite, for example, some requests for a visit being made at relatively short notice and clearly interrupting a busy routine. At all times, the staff have been kind, understanding and have patiently assisted my Mother to enjoy brief visits outside the confines of the buildings. I have nothing but praise for their attitude and efforts in helping my Mother recover. My ratings below are all Good based on the feedback from my Mother and my necessarily, limited observation of the facilities and care provision.

I have only been here for 9 days so have been in semi self-isolation. I have not had a chance to try all the facilities/activities The Elms has to offer. I have been well looked after and fed and watered. The garden looks very inviting and I look forward to sitting in it next week. All the staff have been helpful and cheerful which his very welcome after spending five weeks in hospital prior to coming here.

Helpful in every case where help is needed, especially by resident staff.

I'm very happy in the home.

The experience Mum received at The Elms Nursing Home was first class. Management and all staff, indeed everyone, made her feel so welcome and looked after her superbly. Nothing was too much trouble, they were wonderful. Mum was kept so lovely and clean and had fresh clothes on every day. She enjoyed the activities provided and looked forward to her meals. Mum had a lovely bedroom overlooking the garden which was kept immaculate. My husband and I visited Mum most days and when lockdown came, she really struggled but the carers reassured her. We were always made to feel so welcome when we visited Mum. A friendly smile, a lovely chat and a nice cup of tea. When Mum passed away we were able to be with her which meant such a lot. The care, compassion and kindness shown to us from all staff was something I will never forget. Just absolutely amazing. They deserve all the praise imaginable. We will never forget the hospitality, friendliness and love shown to my dear mum and family at this difficult time from the wonderful Elms family.

We are so grateful that our dad has been well looked after during lockdown. We have not been able to see him but have had peace of mind that the carers have looked after him. The manager and admin are fantastic.

Excellent guards taken in this coronavirus time, manager on the ball with restrictions through the epidemic. Clients treated safely even when dealing with hospital ex-patients while COVID was high. Good safe practices undertaken.

The atmosphere is homely, friendly and caring. The staff are, in the main, cheerful and caring. The Manager is always available to give advice and support to the family, and our phone calls to the home are always welcomed (we are never made to feel as if we’re being a nuisance), even during the evening when I have occasionally called to check on him. The administrator is always full of reassurance when we need to talk about Dad and it seems that nothing is too much trouble for her. Dad is thriving in their care, eating well, and interested in his surroundings. If we cannot have him at home, we are relieved that he is in the care of The Elms.

My father has been in the home since early March and was very poorly after suffering a stroke, the staff have always made every effort to comfort him and make him feel welcome and he is now starting to come to terms with this awful situation, the staff have been caring and supportive and always considerate towards my father and the rest of the family, we all feel quite happy with the current situation and must commend the way problems when they have arisen have been dealt with.

From the first days of Mum's stay at The Elms, the team have been ahead of us in predicting Mum's condition and progress in the home environment. They have been able to keep Mum sufficiently occupied to significantly reduce feelings of anxiety and loneliness that she had when she was living alone through the Covid crisis. Communication with the staff team has been good and on all occasions, we have been able to get updates or minor issues attended to.

Magical staff. The food could be improved. My stay was extended because of the Coronavirus.

Having been in the home for several months was treated with respect and dignity from the beginning, right up to going home. Staff is extremely pleasant and helpful and very cheery considering what they have to do and some not pleasant. Food not bad but room for improvement, especially evening meal - soup and sandwiches a bit tiresome to say the least.
