From the very beginning, we felt dad was in safe hands. He was always relaxed and content. We noticed that he was always treated with care, kindness and respect. We were relieved dad ended his days there among caring thoughtful friends. A very big thank you to all the staff at The Elms.

My father spent the last 2 and half years of his life at The Elms.

He received the most excellent care both medically and socially. He had deteriorated at his previous home due to being isolated and feeling abandoned but with care and attention within The Elms "Family", he improved immensely. Despite being deaf, nearly blind, unable to walk and suffering from Dementia, the staff made him feel human again. Unfortunately, a stroke just before his 99th birthday caused him to go downhill. When he became terminal, all the staff from the Manageress down could not have shown more kindness and compassion.

Staff very professional; a pleasure to know they were watching out for me. They did their very best to satisfy some quite difficult patients with diplomacy. I really admire their fortitude of spirit.

My one small problem was not having my water jug filled regularly. I had to do it myself.

Reply from Alison Reijman, PR Coordinator at The Elms Care Home

Thank you very much for your review, Sue, and your positive comments about the resilience and abilities of our staff. However, we are sorry we did not ensure your water jug was regularly filled.

Daycare wonderful. Food is very good. Night time poor because of the slowness of staff, waiting to come for ages.

Dear JW,

We’re really pleased to hear that you feel the care you received during the day is wonderful and that you enjoyed the food. We have invested a lot into our food offer including further training for our chefs, as we know how important it is for people to enjoy their food and dining...

Extremely clean and well run residential care home. Staff are very friendly and food is very good. The entertainment team in the care home are excellent. The rehab team does not have too many outdoor activities or indoor ones for that matter.

The rooms are of a very high quality and enjoy nice views of trees, gardens and squirrels. It's good to have nurses on board in case of health worries.

We were a self-funding couple having respite care after both having bad accidents.
It took 4 days to get an extra heater in our room because we were cold.
We were woken up at between 7 am to 7.30am in the morning, but a cup of tea was not brought up, sometimes as late as 9.45am. The tea at bedtime was very often only lukewarm, horrible.
Also, the towels were changed every day but bedclothes were only changed once in our 3 weeks.

The first week of our stay the food was quite plain, improved during the second week.

Reply from Louise Chandler, PR & Communications Manager at The Elms Care Home
Thank you for sharing your feedback. During your stay, our Regional Manager was happy to discuss any concerns with you, to put your mind at ease.
We were happy to provide you with an extra heater to make you comfortable within 48 hours after the risk assessment took place.

We appreciate that you...

Mum's stay was for rehab/reablement after a broken ankle. The physio and occupational therapy has been thorough and given her a good level of mobility. Staff have always been helpful and cheerful nothing is too much trouble. Although mum is happy to be going home after an elongated stay, due to the unavailability of a funded care package, she was happy during her stay at The Elms Nursing Home.

I really can't put into words how to tell you about my stay except that everyone from laundry, cleaners, nurses, office then it's the carer's day and night went way and beyond the call of duty. Don't know how to say this but I class you all as excellent people and friends.

Mum came to The Elms Nursing home three years ago following a hip operation. The rehabilitation and care she received was second to none enabling her to live independently in her own home for three years.

Mum has now returned to The Elms as a palliative patient. When asked by the hospice nurse where she would like to spend her final few weeks straight away it was The Elms, the care and friendly atmosphere is like coming home and I can relax seeing mum so happy.

I joined Hartford Care at the Elms in June 2024 as Deputy Manager and have since taken on the role of Home Manager.

The moment I walked through the door, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, the residents and their loved ones.

I have received nothing but support and encouragement in my new role, and I feel privileged to come to work in such a lovely, friendly family atmosphere. It really is a special place to work.

I have worked within the care sector for over ten years and have enjoyed every stage of my journey. I began as a Care Assistant and worked my way up the industry ladder. Over time, I’ve discovered that I’m most passionate about working in residential care homes, supporting residents in the final years of their lives. It’s incredibly rewarding to ensure they are safe, living life to the fullest, and able to maintain their independence as much as possible.

I truly enjoy my role at The Elms as the Deputy Manager. We have a very supportive team — like one big family — all dedicated to ensuring our residents’ lives are filled with love, comfort, joy and smiles on all their faces every day. We have great plans for our residents' home, and it’s been great seeing them come into place.
