I have spent much of the past two days in Pine Lodge. During that time I have seen the usual high standard of compassion and care. But what has been amazing and very heart-warming, has been the way the activities have brought joy into the lives of so many of the residents. This morning Sadie, the
Activities Co-ordinator had a table of ladies cackling with laughter over some decorations they were making and later in the day a young pianist led the room in singing, whistling and dancing; he also allowed one of the residents to surprise us all with how well she can play! The joy was palpable.
Reply from Lindsay Mahoney, Hospitality & Wellbeing Manager at The Laurels & Pine LodgeThank you for taking the time to write this review. It is great to hear how pleased you are with the care, support and compassion shown from the team at The Laurels & Pine Lodge. It is especially lovely to hear how happy you are with the activities provided and were able to witness the joy it brings to the residents. We will pass on your kind words to the team at The Laurels & Pine Lodge.

There's always a full programme of events for the residents - family fun days, bus trips and musical entertainment. I attended the family day in August and it is easy to see how my relative enjoys sitting and watching what is going on, it provides social interaction and something to talk about. The
home is also keen to encourage family members to participate - the recent relatives' meeting was an opportunity for the home to lay out it's plans for the short (and longer) term, and for relatives to ask questions. All rounded off with a fun quiz.
Though the staff put in a lot of work for these events, my siblings and I see them also putting the same effort in for the more mundane activities and tasks (this includes the housekeeping and catering staff who seem to know the names of all the residents). We feel we made the right decision when choosing The Laurels.

All the team at Laurels & Pine Lodge have made Mum really comfortable and included. She settled in straight away and made a choice to stay on after her initial 2 week respite which was so good as as a family we were concerned for her safety alone at home.
Thank you to all the staff for making her so
welcome and for all that you do, she has gone back to how she was 2 or 3 years ago.

I have generally found the staff and leadership to be helpful and caring towards residents. Also the staff I have met have been helpful. As a family member, it is really important to know that Dad is being well looked after. Thank you for your good work. It would be helpful to find a solution to losing
items of laundry - e.g. if you can recommend suitable ways to label.
Reply from Nikki Clark, Hospitality & Wellbeing Lead at The Laurels & Pine LodgeFirstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. We are so pleased to hear your father has settled in so well to life at The Laurels and Pine Lodge. We are also so thrilled to hear you are pleased with the care and support at the home. Unfortunately, there is a long-standing concern over laundry and we apologise for the missing clothes, we will endeavour to sort this out in-house. Thank you again for leaving a review and I will be sorted to pass it on to the staff at The Laurels and Pine Lodge.

Always look forward to visiting mum as I care for a brain injured husband so its enlightenment for me. The residents make me laugh with the things they say, they are all so happy without a care in the world. They are all so well looked after and loved by the staff who I find work really hard and put
the residents needs first. I couldn't wish mum to be in a better residential home. Thank you all.

My mother-in-law has been in this rest home for nearly 9 weeks and my husband and I are delighted with the care and attention she is receiving. After the initial 8-week respite period we didn't even bother looking at other homes, why would we? The food is excellent and a really good variety and the
level of care is a really high standard. My mother-in-law now always looks clean and tidy. She is warm and safe, thanks to the friendliness and hard work of the carers. The manager is always approachable and accessible.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.719)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.719) out of 10 for The Laurels & Pine Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.719 for The Laurels & Pine Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (228 Excellents x 5) + (77 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.719
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Laurels & Pine Lodge is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2015

As Home Manager at The Laurels and Pine Lodge Residential Home, I am proud of the journey I have taken, and I feel deeply privileged to work with such a dedicated team and wonderful residents.

I began my career here as a carer and over the years, through determination and a passion for the care industry, I was fortunate enough to progress through the roles from Senior Carer all the way to Home Manager.

I love what I do and feel privileged to make a difference in our residents' lives. Person-centred care is central to my approach, ensuring every resident is treated with respect, compassion, and dignity. It's not just about providing care; it's about building meaningful relationships and ensuring that each resident feels like a valued part of our family here at The Laurels and Pine Lodge.

I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated professionals and to continue providing the highest standard of care for our residents. Every day is a chance to learn, grow, and make a positive impact, which makes this job so special to me.
