It was the first opportunity we have had to visit since she has been in care and we were so pleased to see her so happy, clean and tidy.
Staff welcomed us and immediately offered tea which was delivered on a tray with teapot, cups and saucers in a light and airy side room.
All too quickly, we had to be on our way although, we had been left in peace and quiet for as long as we wanted.
Accompanying my aunt back to their dayroom, everything was clean and in good condition without the odours that can often linger in homes for the elderly.
A happy day.
Thank you for your review. It's lovely to hear that you had a happy day visiting your aunt and we look forward to welcoming you here when you come to see her again.
Today, seeing and visiting The Laurels and Pine Lodge Care Home, it was superb in every way for those being cared for and for the relatives visiting for the first time. It has given me great comfort to know that there are places like yours.
Thank you so much for your review. We are so glad that you are happy with the care your aunt is receiving with us, which has given you personal peace of mind. We are always delighted to welcome relatives, all of whom we consider to be part of the wider Hartford Care "family". We shall pass on your lovely comments to our team who are caring for your aunt.
In a short time, I find this home a very nice home for my mother-in-law.
Thank you for writing this review, John. We are delighted that as a result of you finding The Laurels & Pine Lodge a very nice home for your mother-in-law, you are extremely likely to recommend it. We shall pass on your comments to our staff there.
Very nice care home, the staff always friendly and helpful. We are very pleased with it all. We do have a mother and sister in this care home and we are happy with how they are looked after.
My mother has been here in Pine Lodge for 2 years now,m she has been looked after in a safe environment. Only negative thing I have is outside help, such as haircut and chiropody is too expensive. The care staff are excellent and very helpful.
We work with local providers who are trustworthy and share our values and they set the prices for the services they provide to our residents. Best wishes.
My mother became a resident at The Laurels at the age of 92, with middle stage Alzheimers, but fairly mobile and in good physical health for her age. She had been in other care homes but never settled in them. It was the care, support and love of The Laurels carers that allowed her to settle at last. She slowly deteriorated in her health but the care has been outstanding and, as a family, we have been comforted by knowing how much she has been embraced as someone special - as they do all their residents. It is, without doubt, the best place she could have been in her final years.
Visit mum once a month and always pleased with the welcome from the staff. Really nice for mum when they have entertainment and she seems to enjoy that, especially the singing. Stay with her when she has her meals and I am always impressed with how nice the food looks. Mum usually eats well.
All staff very attentive but sometimes no one around when needed. Enjoyed helping in the gardens and various DIY activities. Food very good.
Thank you for your feedback and comments.
Our dedicated and committed care team have a strong presence in the home to consistently support all of our residents with their care needs. Also, we have recently updated the call bell system so our residents can notify the team when they require help...
I viewed this care home on behalf of my dad. My first impression was how friendly the staff were and what a homely atmosphere it had. The home gave him a new lease of life for the 14 months he was a resident. Although he had dementia and not sure of his surroundings I felt confident he enjoyed everything that was provided for him. On visiting him I felt very welcome and always enjoyed a cup of tea and friendly chats with both staff and other residents. Dad really enjoyed his days out which included a boat trip around the harbour, bowling, dementia cafe and also the visits to the home from old-time sing-alongs to llamas and visits from the children of local schools. I would highly recommend this lovely care home.
Nice, happy atmosphere.
Always pleased to see you when visiting.
Residents well cared for and entertained.
The home was recommended!
My family are also impressed.
This is the second relative that I have arranged care for in the Laurels. I have complete confidence in the staff and management to safely and caringly attend to the needs of my relative. She tells me repeatedly that 'I could not be better taken care of'.
I am satisfied with the care home and the care provided.
It is a comfort for us to know that mum is safe and well cared for. The staff are so friendly and kind to her and to us when we visit. When we saw her this week there was a maintenance issue with her toilet which the helpful maintenance man attended to more or less straight away.
Mum also enjoyed the entertainment that afternoon singing along with the land girls. With the recent snow and bad weather, it was a relief to know that she would be well looked after when we couldn't visit.
Mum has been in The Laurels for about a year now. My husband and I (and our family) have been very happy with her stay there. Although not one of the new slicker care homes, The Laurels is a very homely place and suits Mum well. I always feel comfortable visiting there -we are always greeted warmly by the staff. I can't praise the carers enough - there are always plenty about and they always seem extremely kind to the residents. I feel that she's in good hands there. Even the smallest medical concern seems to be dealt with quickly. Clean and no smell. Mum always says that the food is good and she enjoys all the activities that are organised.
I can't thank the staff enough she also looks clean and well dressed. Well done every one of you.
I visited my aunt again recently and was delighted to find her happily listening to wartime music in the lounge with other residents. We came out to the dining room to have a quiet chat. She was very content with her environment, the food and the staff. Fortunately, she keeps very well. Her clothes although old and shabby were clean. Her hair was clean and styled. I know she gets eye tests but prefers her old glasses! She says she has no needs but if she did she would not hesitate to ask a member of staff. We were joined by an admin staff member who obviously knew my aunt well. She is a joy to visit and I think she is in the right home and would not hesitate to recommend.
I've been to several homes over time and this one really considers the resident's requirements. There is the main unit and 'The Pines' for those with dementia.
Stayed for two weeks respite care. Found staff kind and caring. Food plentiful and enjoyable. Everything seemed clean.
The staff treat the residents carefully even the rather difficult ones and are always there to clear away and clean up. When residents have an embarassing moment or are taken ill, often screens are put round them to protect their privacy.
The home has upgraded furniture on the ground floor, which has made the rooms more pleasant to sit and meet residents.
Cleaning sometimes on the carpet is not thorough, but that maybe due to short staff or busy with residents.
It would be good practice if the review of the care plan with relatives is more specific with times and dates, and could email be used, particularly if relatives live away from the care home?

Meet the Team (2)

As Home Manager at The Laurels and Pine Lodge Residential Home, I am proud of the journey I have taken, and I feel deeply privileged to work with such a dedicated team and wonderful residents.
I began my career here as a carer and over the years, through determination and a passion for the care industry, I was fortunate enough to progress through the roles from Senior Carer all the way to Home Manager.
I love what I do and feel privileged to make a difference in our residents' lives. Person-centred care is central to my approach, ensuring every resident is treated with respect, compassion, and dignity. It's not just about providing care; it's about building meaningful relationships and ensuring that each resident feels like a valued part of our family here at The Laurels and Pine Lodge.
I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated professionals and to continue providing the highest standard of care for our residents. Every day is a chance to learn, grow, and make a positive impact, which makes this job so special to me.

I have worked at The Laurels and Pine Lodge for ten years now, starting my career with Hartford Care back in 2013 as a Care Assistant, becoming a Senior Care Assistant in 2017 and now being promoted to Deputy Manager.
I love working here, we have a fabulous, supportive team at The Laurels and Pine Lodge, and I love being able to give the residents and their families the best care possible and uphold the company values of care, comfort and companionship.
