I am completely convinced that every person who works here has to sit a ‘loveliness’ exam as part of the recruitment process! From the manager to the chefs to the nurses to the reception staff - everybody here is just so caring and welcoming. I desperately wish my mum didn’t have dementia, but she does and that being the case, I don’t believe she could get better care. It’s not the building - the bedrooms, lounges or dining rooms that make this place - even though they’re very nice; it’s the ethos and genuine care shown by everyone working there that makes this such an amazing place.

I live in Scotland and am much comforted by knowing my lovely mum is receiving such wonderful care. Thank you all so much.

The staff are all so caring. Everybody has made Mum feel welcome and at home.

Nothing is too much trouble and if Mum asks for anything, the staff will always accommodate her straight away. The food is excellent and a wide selection of choices. Coffee and cake are readily available. Entertainment is excellent, Mum is very happy here, this makes the process easier to cope with for the family.

My mum is a new resident. The staff are wonderful, kind, caring, personable and everybody smiles pleasantly! The home is bright, airy and comfortable. The food looks delicious and my mum (not a big eater) enjoyed a three-course lunch while I was there.

My husband is so comfortable and settled since being in the care home. The staff are so caring and friendly, and I am always kept informed regarding any "small" issues which may arise. I am so impressed with the whole set-up of the home that if I found myself in need of care, this would be the ideal place that I would wish for.

As a family, we are very very happy with the care and attention that our father is receiving.
The staff are always welcoming. They allowed us to give him a piece of garden outside his bedroom window which we planted up with colourful flowers. Everyone who used the garden could enjoy the flowers.
We like the hospitality where we can make tea/coffee and share it with Dad in the reception.

No complaints.

From day one was made to feel very welcome and has been the same every time I visit. It's very homely, clean and well looked after.

I leave there knowing my other half is being well looked after, and is happy to stay. I find it is well run, plenty of staff on hand, if you need to ask a question or need help someone is there.

Very good home managed and run by excellent staff. Everyone knows our next of kin (resident) and always greets her by her first name, even those staff not directly engaged in her wing. Special praise needs to go to the activities coordinator who provides almost a daily programme of activities tailored to the individual. The only negative is the cost which has increased significantly for every resident making it the most expensive care home locally. Overall we are very satisfied with the standard of care our next of kin is receiving but Barchester need to review their charges and reduce dividends to shareholders.

My dad moved to Vecta House recently. The staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Everyone stopped, had a chat, and introduced themselves; all staff are happy to help, with a lovely smile. The fact that Mum can have lunch with Dad is lovely. At his last home, we couldn't even have a cuppa with him. The environment is spotless, comfortable and spacious. The atmosphere is calm, cheerful and likes belonging to a family. Well done all!

The setting for Vectra House is quiet and peaceful and the car parking is excellent. Inside the decor is attractive and well planned. The doors to the resident's room are open except for privacy and this gives a feeling of inclusion in the community, especially for the bed-bound. There is an atmosphere of positivity, peacefulness even when the louder residents are are expressing themselves and an invitation to enjoy life. The staff are extremely professional, caring and nurturing, willing and kind and there is a feeling of cohesion. End of life care is beautiful.

Staff have been completely alert and proactive to the care needs of my relative. They contacted us as soon as they had concerns his health was seriously deteriorating. He was expected not to live, and they facilitated frequent visits with us, his next of kin, in very difficult circumstances. As a result, my relative has really improved and is getting better day by day; his life has been extended.

Review from Pam S (Next of Kin) published on 7 December 2021 Submitted via Website

My next of kin was admitted to Vecta House on 21 October 2021. I have only been once to deliver clothes etc. and was immediately impressed with the actual premises and the staff I met at the time. I telephone weekly to check on how he is and any staff I have spoken with are amazingly friendly, kind and understanding of our situation. Apparently he "is a totally different man" from when he first arrived - eating well (putting on weight), walking about and generally joking and communicating well with the staff. All I can say is a huge thank you to everyone at Vecta House who are, so obviously, looking after him so very very well - it is a great relief to me to know he is in the best possible place now.

I am always received in a cheerful, friendly manner by the staff. They appear to be compassionate with my husband and he accepts what is expected of him, his health problems have been addressed and interventions are clearly explained to me. I leave feeling that he is getting the best care. He accepts my departure without showing any anxiety. The methods being used by the staff seem to be controlling any distress.

Chris SelwayJob Title:Head ChefJoined: 2018

Hello, my name is Chris, and I have been working at Vecta since June 2018.

Before joining Vecta, I spent 10 years as the Head Chef at another care home, working closely with people living with dementia.

It is an age-old saying that ‘home is where the heart is', and to me, the heart of all homes should be the kitchen. The pattern of our life revolves around food and drink; it sustains, nurtures and brings us together as family, and friends. It marks times of celebration and significant events, reminding us of what is important in our life.

I enjoy spending time with residents and learning about their individual likes, dislikes and needs. This is their home and I try to create menus that respect this and involve them in this process as much as possible by recreating meals that they have come to love and food that they cherish.

Quality ingredients and presentation are essential; if something is to have value it should look good and reflect the care that has gone into its making.
