Review from Cristina W (Mother of Resident) published on 21 October 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

We want to make this review because the service provided for my mother/mother-in-law is above and beyond the normal standards! She was transferred to this home from another place where she was neglect, approach with no dignity, and much more! All staff in Vecta House worked so hard to gain her confidence, to provide that care that made my mother happy! I want to say it here and I did in person that I never so my mother so happy! We know was a hard process for all staff but all they have done a great job! It's not easy to approach and understand a person with dementia, frightened and scare and who can't communicate her needs. But they have done an amazing job, the interaction was built in a positive way and now my mother is a different person. People with dementia can communicate their feeling through body language and words sometimes! All I can say is that my mother is now happy, she have an amazing care approach and everyone in that company value her with dignity. Thank you.

Overall Experience

My husband was resident in Vecta House Care home for 2 years. He had Alzheimer's Disease and was, sometimes very aggressive. He had been in another care home, where his aggression was controlled with medication, making him very unsteady on his feet, although he was physically fit and mobile. Within a fortnight of moving into Vecta House, the staff managed to handle the aggression without medication and he was able to walk independently around the home and lovely gardens. The confinement made necessary by the pandemic and progression of his disease made him bed-bound and in July 2021, he was put on the end of life care. At this time I was able to visit at any time and stay with him as long as I wanted. For 2 weeks I sat by his bedside. The staff were caring and attentive. With the door open, I could hear all that was happening in Chillerton Section and I never heard a cross or grumpy word. With difficult and challenging residents all I heard was fun, laughter, care and compassion.

Vecta House and the manager were highly recommended to me prior to my husband's residency. I now feel confident that I made the right choice. He has been a resident for 5 months now and with limited visits due to Covid, my first impressions have been very positive. My husband has complex issues with special dietary needs which means he is confined to his room and is bedbound. I have always found the staff/management to act in a professional and caring manner, updating me as and when necessary on my husband's condition. I feel he is safe and in very good hands which alleviates any concerns I may have as to his wellbeing.

My partner has been a resident of Vecta House for almost two years now, and whilst her needs have changed considerably over this period, the staff have always been caring, polite and helpful. The atmosphere is always friendly, and the rooms clean and tidy. Over the past year, visiting has been restricted due to Coivd, but I knew my partner was being well cared for during this difficult period, which meant a lot to me.

My experience is difficult due to the pandemic of COVID 19. I have not been inside Vecta House only the reception. I saw mum today for the first in 1 month and I have to say she looks very well. I have had contact through phones and meeting with her carers. I am happy to say the care she is receiving is outstanding. The carers at Vecta have made a terrible for my mum and me so much easier.

The staff at Vecta House are professional and kind, treating residents as individuals and taking the trouble to get to know their backgrounds too. Under extraordinary circumstances during the Covid-19 pandemic, they locked down quickly, keeping their residents safe and well. We have been able to talk to Mum via Skype and Zoom all through this which has been wonderful. It is so reassuring to know that the home’s primary focus is on taking great care of their residents. The home is always clean and tidy, there are activities to do too. Mum always looks so tidy and well-groomed, happy and with a good appetite. Thank you all.

The whole team at Vecta House make it what it is, so warm and friendly with everyone so caring and professional at what they do. As I do not live on the Island, regular communication is essential for knowing that my sister is safe and well. Being so far away can be difficult but the team do a brilliant job of keeping me involved and giving me peace of mind. My sister is cared for so beautifully and the amazing gardens, plus the spacious layout of Vecta House, gives my sister the freedom to be very happy in her world - to us, this means so much.

I will always be grateful that my mum spent her last months at Vecta House.
She was well cared for and respected throughout her stay. I spent a lot of time here with her and saw first-hand how the staff treat the residents with respect and professionalism.
That care and respect were extended to me too; the key staff always made time to talk to me, and give me honest information about my mum's condition. I felt very early on that they got a sense of my mum; which really put my mind at rest.
The staff here are a little like superheroes in my mind. They deal with some very difficult challenges that dementia patients exhibit, yet the atmosphere at Vecta is positive and caring.
I am so comforted that this is where Mum was looked after.

A very huge, thank you, to everyone.

My mum is resident at Vecta House and has been through various stages of Dementia. The staff are caring and hardworking and Mum is looked after very well. I have no concerns for her welfare or care. Families and residents are treated with dignity and respect at all times. I would highly recommend Vecta House to anyone looking for a care home for a loved one. This is often a really difficult decision to make but I can honestly say the level of care she receives here is exceptional. Nothing is ever too much for the people working to keep her comfortable, well and safe.

Chris SelwayJob Title:Head ChefJoined: 2018

Hello, my name is Chris, and I have been working at Vecta since June 2018.

Before joining Vecta, I spent 10 years as the Head Chef at another care home, working closely with people living with dementia.

It is an age-old saying that ‘home is where the heart is', and to me, the heart of all homes should be the kitchen. The pattern of our life revolves around food and drink; it sustains, nurtures and brings us together as family, and friends. It marks times of celebration and significant events, reminding us of what is important in our life.

I enjoy spending time with residents and learning about their individual likes, dislikes and needs. This is their home and I try to create menus that respect this and involve them in this process as much as possible by recreating meals that they have come to love and food that they cherish.

Quality ingredients and presentation are essential; if something is to have value it should look good and reflect the care that has gone into its making.
