Woodside Hall is a unique and beautiful Nursing Home located in an area of outstanding beauty in Wootton on the Isle of Wight, it offers specialist nursing care for older people in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Wildlife in particular the iconic Red Squirrel can be seen daily outside the home in the vast gardens foraging for food. Many of the home's rooms which are en suite offer spectacular views over the Solent and beyond where residents can sit and watch the world go by or go out into extensive gardens and spend time with their loved ones on beautiful hot summer days.

Woodside Hall originally a fantastic Victorian building was renovated in 2011 creating a modern care facility with amazing care capabilities and a little of the old Victorian charm kept in some of the communal areas, many of the other rooms within the home look out over either gardens, forested areas or the Solent.

The Nursing and Care Team at Woodside Hall are well established and highly skilled many have worked together for many years. During its last CQC inspection in October 2018, Woodside Hall was awarded an 'Outstanding' for care which they are extremely proud of.

The home is staffed 24 hours a day by experienced qualified Nurses who plan and oversee the care team ensuring that standards continue to remain high.

Our dad has been in Woodside Hall since December 2024 and from the first time we walked into the entrance it felt the right place for him to be, it is a wonderful setting and it doesn't feel like a nursing home. He receives great care and all the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. The
staff keep him safe and comfortable, he always appears happy when we visit. Both the staff and managers keep us updated regularly and respond to any adjustments to his care that we request.

My 91 year old father has been at Woodside Hall for more than two years when he was admitted after an acute stroke and also suffering from multiple medical conditions. The care he has received has been exceptional. As a family we are supported and kept informed. My father has thrived on the interaction
and socialisation at the home. He is treated as a friendly, intelligent gentleman with a great sense of humour. The care is thorough and professional and the staff treat residents and their families with respect. We are always updated on any changes to Dad's condition. Sindhu (the home's manager) has been a constant source of knowledge, support and reassurance and Tanya (the home's Administrator) is a delight - always helpful and informative. The carers work hard and well as a team. As a family we have no concerns and know that Dad is safe and happy. Our thanks to everyone at Woodside - Fran, Karen, Rob, Tony and Kate.

Philip has lived at Woodside for the past 25 years. The care is excellent and he is very content and well catered for. The food is super, too. As I live 200 miles away, I rely on the communications from the staff at Woodside which are also top notch. It is a huge relief to know that Philip is in safe
hands

Excellent care all round. The staff really make an effort to ensure that my Dad keeps social and joins in with all the activities even despite the problems he has. The nursing team are also excellent, making special effort to keep him safe and fed, it's clear that they are very kind to him and has developed
a good relation with them. It's also located in a very peaceful place surrounded by nature and fresh air. Very very grateful that my father was accepted here.

My partner's dad, John, became a permanent resident at Woodside Hall in early November 2025, and from the very start, we knew that he was in excellent hands. Unfortunately, due to his illness, John's behaviour could sometimes be very challenging, but the staff always treated him with great care, patience
and compassion, for which we, as a family will always be grateful. Sadly, John passed away in early January this year, but we know that every effort was made to make his short stay as good as it was possible to be.
Nothing was too much trouble for the fantastic team at Woodside Hall. Everyone was very friendly and we would thoroughly recommend Woodside as a safe, comfortable and caring environment for anybody's loved-one. From our hearts, "Thank you"...

My mother was taken in by Sindhu (the Manager) from hospital for palliative care and later end-of-life care. It was a very traumatic time for us, but all of the staff have been so kind and caring towards my mother and myself. I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful end to her life.

The staff are amazing very friendly always welcoming and smiling. The home is always very clean, and it shows when you walk through the door. I have no problems with mum's care, and that shows by her telling me she is happy here. Mum is very up and down with her meals but what I have seen of the meals,
they are inviting. Always so many activities going on. I know mum enjoys her time in the lounge. Nurses and management are always helpful and will always answer your questions. I love the home.

Mum went to Woodside Hall for respite care after needing surgery for a hip fracture. She is 92 and was totally independant and self caring before her fall and wanted to be back home as soon as possible Making the arrangements for respite was simple enough - they had a room available (which may not always
be the case) that fit the dates and were able to extend her stay by one week when the rehabilitation team were concerned about her progress.
The place was well laid out and always clean when we visited. Her room was large with an en suite shower room and wonderful views over the lawn onto the Solent. The staff were always kind and courteous and went out of their way to be helpful. They worked alongside a rehabilitation team to improve her confidence and mobility and a care agency that will help support her now she is home.

Staff are very kind and caring, supporting not only the resident but family. The property is spotlessly clean and modern- more like a hotel than a nursing home. All staff are professional and treat the resident with the utmost respect, always with a caring word and a smile. Resident is monitored almost
continuously. Staff go out of their way to sit and comfort both resident and family. Nothing is too much trouble.

You can not believe how grateful we were when Woodside took in our parents in December 2023! Our Dad's health had taken a real turn for the worse and we had no idea how we were going to cope. Within no time they had moved in and our Mum and Dad were able to have a lovely social Christmas dinner in the
lounge. Mum struggled for some time after Dad died, it was hard for her to lose the man she had loved since she was 16 years old. But with all the staffs help, kindness and fun, she rallied and was able to adjust to her new life. We can not thank them enough for how they all worked together to give our Mum a fun filled, comfortable lovely home for her final phase of life. We shall always be grateful for the way they also supported us as a family. All the staff are amazing.

I have found the staff exemplary. They are warm and caring and I have peace of mind that my sister is well taken care of. Any time I have questions or requests they are actioned to my full satisfaction. Communication works well and I am kept informed of anything relevant to her care and personal needs.
The locality is lovely and my sister's room is pleasantly decorated and has a peaceful green and water view. I can't recommend Woodside more, whenever I visit I am welcomed and I can see first-hand the excellent care she gets.

My late mother was in Woodside Hall for just one week, receiving palliative care. The nursing home was a really lovely place for my mother to spend her last week. The staff were excellent and provided the highest standards of care. Visitors were made to feel very welcome. I felt I was treated compassionately
at a very difficult time.

much trouble listening and answering any questions we had, the food was excellent and when we asked him he always said yes I like the puddings, my dad was happy at woodside hall and we are so pleased we chose woodside hall to care for him in his final days.

Our father was welcomed to Woodside Hall in November 2023.
During his time at Woodside, we could not have been more impressed with the care and support he received.
Everyone was so friendly and professional, maintaining his dignity at all times. He was always asked his opinions and was treated like
a person, not just an old man.
Staff took time to talk with him, listening to his stories and talking about his favourite subjects.
The meals were home cooked and he always had choices, including cooked breakfasts.
His room was spotless clean, as were the communal areas.
We were always informed of any change in his condition and the staff were often his voice when dealing with outside medical professionals. He was made to feel safe and secure and we couldn't have asked for any more.
Our Dad was happy at Woodside Hall and all the staff helped to keep a smile on his face. Their kindness made a difference.
Reply from Mary McLean, Director at Woodside HallThank you for your positive review, I am glad that we met your expectations. We will ensure that our staff will be made aware of your kind words, it really does mean a lot to them.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.903)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.903) out of 10 for Woodside Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.903 for Woodside Hall is calculated as follows: ( (232 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 257 Ratings = 4.903
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodside Hall is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
