I am extremely grateful to Applecroft and all the staff who helped my father in the last six months of his life. He suffered from Alzheimer's and we struggled to find him a good home. My main goal was to make sure he was safe, happy and when the time came he experienced a 'good' death. The staff were
caring, friendly, professional and tactile. The atmosphere of the home always felt calm and they had made it as homely as they could. One major added benefit to the home is that it has a small wrap around garden and an entrance to a beautiful park with a small lake. I took my father there a few times in a wheelchair and I know he enjoyed it. We were able to be with him when he passed and I am sure he was grateful to all the staff that cared for him. It is a very hard job and I know it's hard to find a good care home for your loved one but this one was excellent.

My mother arrived at Applecroft in an extremely distressed state from various delays and mismanagement from the system and service providers!

In the year my mother has been living here at Applecroft, she has returned to a semi-normal state and is happy and content. My mother's well-being has not

been seen like this for nearly four years! I am able to go away for a week or two weeks without worrying about how she is being looked after at all.

The staff and the team, work together to make things happen in this very difficult climate with some very poorly people. The care and the service are consistent along with a good quality service in all areas. Well done to the staff and management team at Dover for making this happen.

Finally, I can get back on with my life and my career.

Keep up the good work.

On the 17th of October 2016, I visited my Brother-in-Law, and it was a lovely visit, as he has been bathed and dressed and brought downstairs to the lovely bright tea room. Unfortunately, on the 20th of October 2016 when we visited again, it was a different story. As soon as we stepped out of the lift
on the first floor, the disgusting smell hit you.
The whole place stank.
Lunches were being served, which one hopes would have an appetising smell - but they do not. In my Brother-in-Law's room, the commode and wee bottle both needed emptying, which my 76-year-old frail sister, did herself. The mattress and pillow had bedding removed. The floor was dirty and sticky. The room and my relative stank. It was disgusting.
Reply from Barbara Alison, General Manager at Applecroft Nursing HomeI am sorry you have had cause to raise issues in relation to Applecroft and the care provided to your Brother-in-law. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss these with you in person. Please contact the home and arrange a suitable time to meet with myself to discuss your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you.

Our dear family member sadly only spent twelve days at Applecroft. Unfortunately he had already spent ten sad unhappy weeks in the care (if you can call it that) of a hospital, had he been moved just after the first meeting I believe he would still be alive to this day. From the minute he arrived he
was treated as a human being. He wasn't violent like the hospital said. I believe they had a much more caring bedside manner. His last few days were his best. He was comfortable, clean, cared for, fed and sitting up in a chair on his 89th birthday. Applecroft staff were kind, understanding, polite and they treated him with utmost respect and consideration. Thank you for everything.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.022)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.022) out of 10 for Applecroft Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.239 for Applecroft Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (130 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (13 Poors x 2) + (15 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 197 Ratings = 4.239
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.783 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Applecroft Nursing Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 15 = 0.933
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
