In general happy with the care received, though think recent price rise too high and fees excessive for what my mother actually receives. Management on top of any complaint acting promptly and carers in the main room are good, food, however, is appalling let's hope the catering services are better.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this review we very much appreciate your feedback. In regard to the food, we acknowledge that the historic catering experience was not to the standard we wish to achieve and as such we have introduced a catering service to support us in improving our overall dining experience. Early feedback suggests that the food has significantly improved.

Overall, the service has been outstanding, any issues are quickly addressed and the management is very competent. A recent review of catering will hopefully increase the quality which has been fairly poor.

Gavin Astor provided an excellent standard of care for my dear Mum throughout the last few months of her life. She was treated with respect, dignity and consideration during a very distressing time for our family. The home has a friendly and welcoming feel and staff members always did their best to meet requests and answer questions with many going over and above the call of duty to provide comfort in times of sadness. A calm and restful place with lovely garden views.

My mother was admitted to Gavin Astor House Nursing Home in February 2018 in great pain. She was 92 years old and diagnosed with breast, skull and bone cancer.
A hospice doctor had examined her and given her 2-3 months more of life. When admitted to the home, she refused to leave her room but the nurses and carers encouraged and cajoled and within 3 months she was making new friends and enjoying her time.

Sadly, we knew this would not last and she died in November 2018. We firmly believe her life was extended by the staff and cannot thank them enough for the care they gave her. In summary, I and my family would like to thank all of the staff at Gavin Astor House for everything they did for our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I would recommend this home to anybody.

Gavin Astor Nursing Home took great care of my elderly neighbour for the last 10 months of her life. The home was very welcoming from the first visit to the home in March 2018 to the end of life care in January 2019. The staff showed care and support throughout her stay and assisted in every way they could with the resources available. I would recommend this nursing home and it's staff.

Staff and management were helpful and welcoming during my week-long respite care stay.

Care staff were excellent looking after me and I felt secure. My only wish would be activities to occupy the mind/body. During the week there were few but even so, I will look forward to returning next year and seeing the new wing and updated one I stayed in.

My 91-year old mother has been receiving respite care at the Gavin Astor House for the past few years to enable me, her full-time career, to have a break. My mother is frail now and has many needs, both medical and with personal care, so finding somewhere to address those needs to a high standard and somewhere that my mother feels safe has always been paramount. At Gavin Astor House I know I am leaving my mother in a nursing home where she is always remembered, is treated with respect and with kindness by all members of the staff and know that she will be safe and secure in my absence. All members of staff, in whatever discipline, are polite, conscientious and considerate. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Gavin Astor House.

This home is truly home from home, caring staff, beautiful environment, fun atmosphere with activities and current subjects ie the World Cup! My mum has only been there 3 weeks and has settled in very well because of all the above. Takeaway night is a fab idea. They have made a difficult situation easier to cope with.

My 89-year-old Mum was only at Gavin Astor House for two and a half days. Sadly she passed away prior to going to the hospice. The hospice team came to her. She was treated with care and dignity. Us as a family were very well looked after.

Sincere thanks to all.

Having no family left alive, the staff here are my 'adopted family' keeping me as healthy as possible and making me feel cared for. There have been many changes during the 24 years I have been a resident here but management keep us up to date and I have been encouraged to follow my interests in and out of Gavin Astor House Nursing Home. The home gives me a good feeling of security and support and is set in very pleasant gardens.

Although there was a lack of communication at first, we were soon reassured and he is well settled in now and likes his new life. The staff are lovely and he is well cared for. We are looking forward to taking him outside in his wheelchair when the weather warms up as the grounds are lovely.

I am delighted with the care and service provided by this home. My mother is very happy and nothing is too much for the excellent staff who show kindness and respect.
There is a wonderful activities/entertainment programme which residents can join in with an plenty of help is on hand should they need it.

There is a family atmosphere at this home and families of residents are always welcomed and included. I would highly recommend Gavin Astor House in the knowledge that my mother could receive no better care. Thanks.

I can't praise Gavin Astor Care Home enough. My uncle has been a resident for over a year now. He is very well cared for, the staff are extremely kind and caring. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The meals are very nice and good portions.

The activities are very good and there is something going on every week, also there are outings if residents want to go through the summer. My uncle is very happy there and feels safe all the time. I am confident and happy that my uncle is getting the very best of care.
