There have been good improvements to this care home in the last two years, which I feel were needed. It is now a happy and caring place with very friendly and caring staff. It would be nice if staff had a little more time to spend talking with residents, especially those who are not able to come to the communal rooms downstairs. I am very grateful for the way my mum has been looked after.

Since my husband was transferred to this nursing home, the staff have gradually interacted with him to make him adjust to the different surroundings. They have used their care compassion and consideration towards his needs and mine. Whenever I have a question or need help they all provide the time to give me the help/answers I need during this traumatic change in our lives.

This is the first time I have ever had to stay in a care home, my age is 74 and I am female. The staff are excellent regardless of what you require them for. They are caring and kind. I have been in three different rooms while I have been here and each being a pleasant room kept clean and tidy by the staff. I would definitely recommend this care home most highly.

An excellent modern home in a nice area of Herne Bay. TV in all rooms and washing facilities. Staff very caring and administer to all needs including feeding meals. Assistance call facility for the response of care staff (on bed).

Nurse on duty at all times to administer medication and to provide medical help and to call a doctor if needed.

The home tries very hard to meet every residents needs. More staff would help. Also more staff with English as a first language. Reviews regularly would be welcomed even though you can speak and approach nurses/manager when needed. The home needs to be refurbished especially windows/lighting in rooms.

I think the service we received wasn't very professional and not well handled. They need to take into consideration about emotions and a way of speaking to people on the phone. They need to understand the resident's needs and the care that they need to provide. Unprofessional on the phone, communication and need to take into consideration when letting the family know about a death and how they should speak to the family.

The overall the standard appears first class, mum is very happy here. Whenever the family visit, staff are polite, very kind and patient. Mum still enjoys her food and drink. Sometimes we do worry she doesn't get enough to drink. She has always drank a lot of tea, water and juices.

Any concerns we have, have always been dealt with quickly. Only sometimes minor care issues take time to be noticed; sore eyes, dirty fingernails, toenails need cutting. It is never easy being forced to find a nursing home for a parent, but my brothers and I have complete trust in the management and carers at Haydon-Mayer.

Care homes in the South East of England are the most expensive in the country. I visited approximately a dozen when trying to find somewhere to look after mum. From the very worst homes to the very luxurious. I was horrified at the casual expectation of the better quality that families would 'top up' care home fees once the money from the from the sale of the family home had run out. I was horrified at the state of the homes at the other end of the scale. 'Haydon-Mayer Care Home' is a decent home with fees in line with the country-wide average and no top up required. Mum has now lived there for a year, and I think the recent CQC report (May 16) is a good reflection of what I have found. The home tries very hard and provides good quality care. The areas pinpointed in the report that need improvement I know are being addressed, and have not impacted on mum's care in any negative way. My only criticism is the lack of a secure outside space. The garden at the home is very pleasant, but it would be good for mum to have free access to it on outdoor days when I am not there. Other than that, I would thoroughly recommend 'Haydon-Mayer Care Home'.

My father moved here from another home in December 2015. I have found the care to be very good with attention paid to details, such as finger nails. My father always looks cared for although it must be difficult at times as he does get agitated. The staff are caring and courteous. The food is good, particularly at lunchtimes although sometimes a little sparse at suppertime. Problems are dealt with efficiently e.g. a recent ingress of ants into my father's room. The home is well managed and staff appear to receive a lot of training. On the (very) slight negative side they still have not managed to spell my father's name correctly (a niggle) and I fairly frequently find hot drinks left to go cold.
