A very sincere thank you to you all for the care and kindness given to my mother and to her family. My mother found it very difficult to leave her home to go into nursing care. Everything has been done to make her feel at home. Thank you!!

All staff dealing with Mum have been excellent.
They are very caring and cheerful and do their utmost best to make Mum as comfortable as possible.
I am very grateful to them all for this.
Mum is in the best possible place.
The upgrade to decoration outside and inside is very nice.
Laundry is excellent
- as is admin, cleaning, and kitchen staff.
Whole team appears cohesive!

Mum and Dad came to Hythe View for 2 weeks respite care following a stroke and a bad fall. This has been the perfect place for their recovery.
The accommodation (with sea views!) is luxurious and the care staff are delightful and have been wonderful to Mum and Dad.
From previous reviews, I thought
this would be a good choice but it has far exceeded our expectations.
I can highly recommend Hythe View.

My brother is confined to bed because of his condition. I visit him three times a week. I am very impressed with care and service. The very kind staff provide for him. My brother and the room are kept very clean. The house and conditions are kept to the very highest standard. Thank you so much for keeping
my brother very happy and relaxed.

My mother has been in Hythe View for a month following a stay in the hospital. Staff have been really good at welcoming her and making her feel at home, and us, her family. We feel secure that she is well cared for and staff respond well to requests and act in a timely fashion. Residents are treated
with respect and dignity and also with good cheer and humour.

This care home is not fit for purpose. My brother-in-law is here on end-of-life care. We arrived today to find him in his bed, no blanket on him naked from the waist down lying in his own faeces. Pressed the carer button and waited 20 mins for a carer to turn up to clear him up. This is not the first
time this has happened, seems to be every weekend they have agency staff on, they don't care. Top it off we are in the lounge waiting for them to clean him up, we find at least 8 handover sheets given to carers with all the resident's medical details on, so we can see what everyone is suffering from. Big Data Protection policy breakage. They want £1400.00 a week for this care, an absolute joke. Please do not send your family members here for end-of-life care. They are not capable of this level of care.

My father was a bed-bound resident for three years prior to passing away in October 2022. My husband and I visited four times a week and were always greeted by friendly, caring reception staff who showed genuine interest in our family and were always equally helpful and supportive when phoned for information.
They and the nursing staff were wonderful to us when my father died. In the first town years of his care, the home had a united and family atmosphere. Led by an accessible, caring and understanding management. This last year changes in management and policy here led to many long-term valued staff choosing to leave. Food quality deteriorated as a succession and chefs came and went. The standard of food became unsatisfactory when residents are paying high fees for care. We observed a general atmosphere of uncertainty and lack of positivity among carers, with staff feeling undervalued. Despite nursing and reception care remaining exemplary. These management issues need addressing ad the staff and residents deserve better.
Reply from Angie Peterson, Client Relationship Manager at Hythe ViewThank you for your review.

We are very pleased to hear that overall your experience was a positive one.

The change in Management has now enabled the home to have more focus and stability and the staff morale is boosted once again. Your comments are very valued and appreciated in order to ensure a better experience when staying in the home.

My father passed away in April 2022, he had been a resident of Hythe View for a year and was always well looked after. The staff were very kind and supportive at a difficult time. My mother is also in Hythe View, she is also well looked after and received a lot of support from the staff when my father
passed away. There is always a positive attitude from the staff and they are always willing to help. The home is always clean and tidy with no nasty smells!

My wife has been a resident in Hythe View for more than 6 years. Over this period she has received consistently good care. My only concern has been when the ownership changed and there have been 4 managers over the time. I hope now for a stable period. As time has passed, my wife becomes more handicapped
and naturally, we hope that our loved one is not suffering too much. I am confident that with the professional staff who care, she is in the right place.

We chose Hythe View for our mother, after visiting quite a few. She'd been in a Nursing Home in another part of Kent which suddenly closed down, and we were fortunate that a room with a lovely view was available for her. She spent three very content years at Hythe View until her death in mid June
2022, although the terrible frailty of her very late nineties meant that her last months were spent in bed. The nurses and carers, and support staff, were consistently professional not only with Mum but also with me and the rest of the family. Covid 19 precautions were implemented early and stringently. I found the nurses in particular were proactive with her healthcare needs, not waiting for me or other relatives to suggest treatment options. The manager in charge in 2019 was one of the reasons we selected this home, and on her retirement, she has been replaced with a manager equally experienced, accessible and knowledgeable. All staff are recruited with care.

Our dear mother went into Hythe View at the end of her life. So she was very poorly instead and obviously unsure of her surroundings. She had a lovely room with sunlight through the windows. The staff caring and nursing were excellent and my sister and I observed this as we visited every day for 3 weeks.
They treated her with the utmost dignity and love. They were very patient with her and tried different methods to get her to eat and drink. If we were to pick an environment for our mum to pass away, it would be here having her hand held by a member of staff. Excellent care.

Mum is settling in but remains anxious when other residents enter her room and carers take a while to answer her call bell for support. Items have been taken from Mums room. After 2 months majority of the care staff still not competent in assisting Mum in putting her hearing aids in. Today Mum had her
left one in her right ear. Mum enjoys the sea views from the dining and day rooms and is desperate to move to a first floor (reception level) sea room.

My mother-in-law moved to Hythe View from another care home in January due to the other care home closing down. From the moment she arrived all the staff made her feel very comfortable and special even through the Covid restrictions. She has settled very well and we have no worries about her care as
the staff are so friendly, caring and seem to love their jobs. Everywhere is clean including all the residents and from what we have seen she joins in and enjoys the activities provided. Excellent work, thank you for all your help and care.

My mother was a resident at Hythe View from January 2016 until her passing (not from COVID) in January 2021. She had Dementia and eventually required total care. Throughout this time we have been indebted to the staff for the professional expertise, care and humanity with which she was treated.
Under
the excellent leadership of the Manager, we have seen how the staff have pulled together during the very challenging months of the pandemic, with dedication, commitment and self-sacrifice, to ensure that the high standard of care was maintained. At all levels – from communication to nursing, to caring, to cleaning – the staff have been consistently kind, cheerful, considerate and compassionate.
They guided us with sensitivity and expertise through the end-of-life process, ensuring my mother’s passing was dignified and peaceful - despite COVID restrictions. It has been a great comfort to know that we could entrust our mother to their compassionate care over these last, difficult years.
Reply from Sharon Feleppa, Manager at Hythe ViewThank you for this review.
As with all 'families,' the relationship only works if it is two way and we have been delighted to care for this dear lady and interact with the whole family, who have been tremendously supportive of all that we strive to achieve to improve the lives of those in the Hythe View community.
The current Covid-19 restrictions cannot and must not detrimentally affect the necessity for families to spend precious final moments together and we at Hythe View ensure that we do everything to facilitate this whenever possible, whilst respecting current guidance. Thank you

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.754)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.754) out of 10 for Hythe View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.804 for Hythe View is calculated as follows: ( (176 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 214 Ratings = 4.804
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hythe View is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Dan is the Resident Experience Support Manager at Hythe View, having joined the company in April 2022. He brings with him over a decade of experience in the travel industry, where he worked as a cabin crew member and later as a Commercial Manager for a tour operator.
