As a family, we couldn't have wished for a better place for my mum to live and be cared for. We were that happy that my dad chose to spend the last 3 week of his life there too. All the staff at High View became part of our family, they were so caring and friendly to us all whenever we visited. Nothing
was too much trouble, whatever we asked for was seen to straight away. The activities provided are great, lots of music which the residents loved, including my mum, to see them singing along or tapping their hands or feet was great to see.
Reply from Sharon Feleppa, Manager at Hythe ViewThank you for this review, it is always a pleasure to care for all of our residents and believe me I, as Manager, I feel humbled and honoured when someone chooses Hythe View to make their home. We strive to reach a happy balance of joyful and calm in the home so that it is a place where you are equally contented living life to the full or enjoying the tranquillity and beautiful views. Thank you for this review. Sharon

We would like to say a huge thank you to Hythe View for meeting Mum's needs while she stayed there, particularly during a very difficult time all round. We feel that she was well cared for, and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you again.

After looking at a few nursing homes, we knew as soon as we walked into Hythe View it was the one for our Mum. We were made to feel welcome by both the Manager and staff. We knew there would be a few teething problems as Mum was very independent and liked her own way, but they soon smoothed them out
and Mum was very happy there. She always said she wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hythe View.

Hythe View is everything I could wish for in residential care. The staff are caring and considerate and treat mum with dignity. The rooms are well equipped. Many with lovely views over the town and the sea. The management and senior nurses keep me well informed and nothing is too much trouble.

I have been to the care home twice now and both times have been excellent. Care comes first from all staff. Comfort in one's room is excellent.
What could one say? Thank you to all the staff.

My mother was only at Hythe View for six months. The care received was caring and understanding. After she had a major stroke Mum spent a few weeks in hospital but returned to Hythe View for end of life care. The nurses were brilliant making sure Mum was pain-free and comfortable - Mum also enjoyed
all the activities which were very well organised. Thank you all for caring for my mum.

My mum, who is my Dad's main caregiver, fell ill with pneumonia and was rushed into hospital at the beginning of the year. One call to the manager of Hythe View averted a crisis and reduced the stress of a difficult situation, she organised a respite room for Dad. The exemplary staff catered for his
challenging needs with love, care and humour. I would not have asked for a better service. I would not hesitate to recommend Hythe View Care Home.

My father has consistently received excellent, kind and professional care at Hythe View - but more than that we, the family, have been cared for and received warmth, kindness and advice from the nursing team as well as building friendships from all those at Hythe View, from the laundry and cleaning
services to the kitchen. A heartfelt thank you for everything and everyone involved in the care of my father. A special mention to the entertainment lady for her considerable effort in keeping the residents active and happy.

I have nothing but praise for the facilities and staff at Hythe View. My stay of eight months there, after leaving hospital, left me with the feeling that if one had to be in a care home, then this was about as good as it could get.

The staff were unfailingly kind, pleasant, friendly and helpful

and never made me feel that I was being a nuisance to them. The food, while not always being to my personal taste, was always of good quality and well cooked and presented.

One reads of care homes which do not 'come up to scratch', but Hythe View is emphatically not one of them.

From our first contact with the home, the qualities of the staff struck us as quite exceptional. Every single member of staff we encountered was not only professional but also compassionate, cheerful, friendly and understanding. This applied just as much to family members as to their care of mum. Having
never used a nursing home before, we appreciated the way that processes were clearly explained and staff always took the time to answer any queries we had which was very reassuring at a difficult time.

My mother was in this Home for 17 years - the longest stay of any resident by far. In all that time she was treated extremely well and the staff were very friendly to her and tolerant of her occasional bad moods. The treatment of wounds was exemplary, and she was given full access to excellent care
and treatment. The staff were all very kind and considerate, and the senior nurses in particular made certain that everything was done to make her stay as comfortable as possible. Sadly, Mum died in January of this year but the staff were simply wonderful about the 'end of life' management and they could not have been more helpful to the family nor more caring to Mum in her final hours and days. It was clear that the staff really loved Mum and would do anything to help her and to ease her suffering. I would completely and totally recommend this Home to anyone seeking accommodation for a relative.

In the short time I have been a visitor I found everyone so helpful and kind. The rooms are kept so clean some of the rooms have wonderful views across to the sea. The gardens are kept very well and those who are able to sit out have something to look at. Once again, a big thank you to all at Hythe
View.

We have carers with a capital "C" unfortunately, it is spoilt by those with a small "c". A supervisor is required in the kitchen to control issue of food. Capital "C's" will provide hot food on hot dishes and cold food (ice cream etc.) on cold dishes. The drink with meals will be provided with the last
dish and not with the soup (the first dish). Would the small "c's" perform as above at home?
The residents here are aged and infirm; very few of them surviving and none of them, to my knowledge, having a voice. Carers in nursing homes should at all times, treat the residents as though they were their relatives (it shouldn't be difficult).
Reply from Phil Barker, Director at Hythe ViewWe were disappointed to read the comments made by one of our longest standing residents, which we feel are quite unfair and do not reflect the hard work and attention to detail that goes into the work that we do. All of our staff work extremely hard to provide high standards of care for our frail elderly residents, which is amply demonstrated by the many positive reviews we receive.
We openly welcome suggestions for improvements from all those using or visiting our services and we will of course discuss the issues raised by our resident and make adjustments where practical.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.754)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.754) out of 10 for Hythe View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.804 for Hythe View is calculated as follows: ( (176 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 214 Ratings = 4.804
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hythe View is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Daniel Harrison

Job Title: Resident Experience Support Manager Joined: 2022

Dan is the Resident Experience Support Manager at Hythe View, having joined the company in April 2022. He brings with him over a decade of experience in the travel industry, where he worked as a cabin crew member and later as a Commercial Manager for a tour operator. These roles allowed him to travel extensively while developing strong organisational, customer service and leadership skills.

Today, Dan is much happier keeping his feet firmly on the ground. As a proud dad to two boys and a dog, family life is at the heart of everything he does.

Care has long been part of Dan’s story. As a child, he often accompanied his grandmother to the care home where she worked, witnessing firsthand the importance of kindness and compassion in later life care. Later, when his mother trained as a nurse, his respect for the profession deepened further. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dan worked as a carer himself, gaining a true appreciation for both the challenges and the immense rewards of supporting residents and families during uncertain times.

These experiences confirmed his passion for the sector, and he is proud to play a key role at Hythe View, helping to create a positive, supportive and engaging environment for residents and their families.
