My experience in getting my mother into Kippington Nursing Home was made so much less stressful due to excellent help and understanding of both the staff and especially the manager.

Kippington administered my mother within two days, at a time when I could not cope with looking after her at home. The staff went out of their way to help at a bad time for me. The staff are all very friendly and the service is excellent.

The carers are very attentive.
There is a bit of a delay in answering calls for help, there are no means of calling for help for residents in the lounge if no carer is present.
Generally very good experience. My mother has been well cared for and given personal towels too which is nice.
Reply from Edwin Cabagui, Home Manager at KippingtonsThank you for taking the time to review Kippingtons, we really appreciate your feedback. We take great pride in providing high-quality care and facilities and are very pleased to hear that your experience is a positive one.

Although there are no static call bells in the lounge, each resident is provided with a wireless call bell whilst in the lounge and conservatory should they need to use it, there are also always colleagues on hand to ensure residents safety and an activities coordinator who is able to offer a variety of activities. We always welcome comments and suggestions and the opportunity to improve and we hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

My father has been a resident at Kippington for two years. He was very poorly when he arrived, but the care and medical attention he has received means he has thrived and enjoys his life at Kippington. All the staff are very caring and engage with all the residents. Meal times are excellent. Staff always
address our concerns or worries and strive to resolve them. They communicate and share information effectively. Kippington meets all our expectations.

Review from Kathleen D (Resident) assisted by family/friend published on 10 December 2015 Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
I usually wait for a long time when I press the button, this is possibly due to the carers not given sufficient time per resident and due to insufficient staffing. I cannot comment on the activities as I do not participate due to my loss of sight and hearing difficulties. With reference to the food
many dishes are not suitable for my age group 95 and are usually cold. The carers are very good and treat me well.
Reply from Anne Benstead, Home Manager at KippingtonsThank you for your feedback. At Kippington Care Home we strive to improve the services that we provide and value any comments made so we are able to do so. We pride ourselves on providing varied choices for each of our residents whilst maintaining their individual requirements. We will arrange for the chef to meet with you so that we are able to find out what your food preferences are and make sure that they are available in future. I would like to assure you that we do have sufficient staff on duty for the needs of our residents and review our staffing numbers on a monthly basis; so that we are able to provide person centred care and spend valuable time with our residents. We always welcome the opportunity to review and improve upon what we offer and hope you will share your thoughts with us in the home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.626)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.626) out of 10 for Kippingtons is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.626 for Kippingtons is calculated as follows: ( (222 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 334 Ratings = 4.626
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kippingtons is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have always had a passion for health and social care since I cared for my own Grandfather from a young age. I started my career as a healthcare assistant in a nursing home, proceeded to a senior clinical support worker for the NHS on an elderly care ward which led me to completing my nursing degree.

During my nursing career I have experienced working on a frailty ward for the NHS, as a Clinical case manager within the community nursing for those in their own homes and within management in nursing homes that has involved me working on the floor as a registered nurse at times.

I have personal experience of having parents with dementia and making the decision of placing them in care which I feel gives me increased compassion and empathy to those tackling this decision themselves.

I feel I am committed to ensuring that our residents receive the best quality care with compassion and respect they deserve. I work closely with the residents, relatives and colleagues to ensure Kippingtons is a warm and friendly atmosphere to live and work in.

My ethos is that I would not ask someone to do something that I have not or would not be prepared to do myself. Teamwork and good communication is key.
