Kippington Nursing Home is a converted Victorian property, with scenic surroundings and located a short distance from the market town of Sevenoaks. Its proximity to the centre of town makes Kippington fully accessible to local shops and amenities. The home is set within landscaped gardens with views which extend for nearly two miles.

Formerly known as Kippington Grange, the house was originally built in 1874 as a grand private family home. Steeped in history and provenance, the house is reputed to have had connections with Thomas Farnaby and Jane Austen.

In 1952 the house was converted into a care home of distinction whilst retaining many of its period features. The home has been carefully designed to provide up-to-date care facilities of the highest quality to ensure comfort and care.

The transition into a care home can be challenging for both an individual and their family. Caring Homes recognises this and provides a working partnership that upholds the values of dignity, privacy, choice and independence with the aim of providing practical assistance to the individual.

The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Kippington Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Kippington Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.418 for Kippington Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.418

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.818 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kippington Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11 positive Reviews (55 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 9 Reviews ÷ 11 Target = 0.818

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother entered Kippington as a resident in early January. From the start, she liked Kippington, felt relaxed, comfortable and happy. This continued throughout. She is now very content and more settled with life once again.

The care home seems to be run satisfactorily. Seems to be a high turnover of staff. There are plenty of entertainment - although my mother is confined to bed so doesn't often participate. There is always choices of meals at each meal times. Carers are always friendly. There is a relative meeting about every 3 months.

We are very happy with the care that is shown to my mother. She is well looked after very well and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are always willing to help us with any questions and worries we have about her.

We would certainly recommend Kippingtons to friends seeking similar care for their loved ones.

Mum was apprehensive about going into Kippington but the visit by the manager to our home prior admission completely allayed any fears she had.
The welcome Mum received, together with the kindness shown by all staff, was reassuring that we had made the right decision. Her room was well appointed with ornaments and flowers and a welcoming card awaited her, signed on behalf of the staff.
Six weeks later and Mum is completely at home: she has made several friends, not only residents but many staff.

Mum is 102 years old and registered blind but still shows her wonderful disposition which has helped her to settle in and feel at home. The staff are so attentive and caring and Mum says 'very discrete'. The daily activities are really well thought of. I visit Mum each day and there always seems to be laughter. She enjoys mealtimes, the varied menu and never stops telling me that she wants for nothing and there is always something to do.

Well done Kippington, keep it up and thank you!

Being faced with the sudden need to find a nursing home for a loved one with dementia brings with it some very serious emotional decision-making.

I, along with two knowledgeable friends, visited several homes and was quite shocked by what we saw (and could smell) in some of them. The bedrooms were small and with minimal facilities, there was no way I could "condemn" my wife to such places.

We visited Kippington in a quiet part of Sevenoaks. On arrival, we were made very welcome and shown around. We were very impressed by how clean and fresh everything was and the friendly staff. The manager was most helpful, he answered our questions about the care that they would give and offered us a lovely ground floor room with a garden view. We immediately agreed that it was the right place so in mid-August we took my wife there.

Six weeks on, she is now happy and has settled in better than we could have imagined, mainly due to the dedicated and caring staff all led by a very competent manager.

We are so pleased that we found Kippington. Grateful thanks to everyone there.

Kippington administered my mother within two days, at a time when I could not cope with looking after her at home. The staff went out of their way to help at a bad time for me. The staff are all very friendly and the service is excellent.

The carers are very attentive.
There is a bit of a delay in answering calls for help, there are no means of calling for help for residents in the lounge if no carer is present.
Generally very good experience. My mother has been well cared for and given personal towels too which is nice.

Edwin Cabagui, Home Manager at Kippington Nursing Home responded to this review on 04 Jan 2017:

Thank you for taking the time to review Kippingtons, we really appreciate your feedback. We take great pride in providing high-quality care and facilities and are very pleased to hear that your experience is a positive one.

Although there are no static call bells in the lounge, each resident is provided with a wireless call bell whilst in the lounge and conservatory should they need to use it, there are also always colleagues on hand to ensure residents safety and an activities coordinator who is able to offer a variety of activities. We always welcome comments and suggestions and the opportunity to improve and we hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

My father has been a resident at Kippington for two years. He was very poorly when he arrived, but the care and medical attention he has received means he has thrived and enjoys his life at Kippington. All the staff are very caring and engage with all the residents. Meal times are excellent. Staff always address our concerns or worries and strive to resolve them. They communicate and share information effectively. Kippington meets all our expectations.

I usually wait for a long time when I press the button, this is possibly due to the carers not given sufficient time per resident and due to insufficient staffing. I cannot comment on the activities as I do not participate due to my loss of sight and hearing difficulties. With reference to the food many dishes are not suitable for my age group 95 and are usually cold. The carers are very good and treat me well.

Description:

As the manager of Kippington Nursing Home I believe that our residents should be treated with the highest quality of care possible and endeavour to ensure that my team and I always maintain this. I lead by example and involve myself in day to day life of the home as well as making Kippington a happy and enjoyable place in which to live and work.

My background is in nursing where I have experience in numerous clinical areas from emergency services and occupational health to elderly care for nursing and dementia. This coupled with my management knowledge of training and developing team members to achieve their best means that together we make a difference to the lives of each of the residents.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and singing. I would really like to bring music into the home and sing with the residents; it is great for reminiscing and the soul. Kent truly is the garden of England, and I feel very lucky to live here. Sevenoaks is such a lovely place, the parks and forest nearby are picture perfect.
