Kippingtons Nursing Home in Sevenoaks provides residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 50 elderly people, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and long-term care for individuals or couples.

At the home, all staff are highly trained to offer the best care and support to all residents, including their own dementia training, which addresses the importance of meaningful activities and a stimulating environment and an improved dining experience for residents living with dementia and or dysphagia.

Formerly known as Kippington Grange, the house was originally built in 1874 as a grand private family home. Steeped in history and provenance, the house is reputed to have had connections with Thomas Farnaby and Jane Austen. The sensitively converted Victorian property boasts scenic surroundings and is located a short distance from the market town of Sevenoaks. Its proximity to the centre of town makes Kippingtons fully accessible to local shops and amenities. The home is set within landscaped gardens with views which extend for nearly two miles.

The transition into a care home can be challenging for both an individual and the family. Caring Homes recognises this and provides a working partnership that upholds the values of dignity, privacy, choice and independence with the aim of providing practical assistance to the individual.

The majority of staff are very caring and compassionate and hygiene and care standards within the home are excellent. There have been a couple of occasions where I have had to prompt staff to encourage Mum more. Instead of allowing her to stay in bed for days at a time. I am happy to stay this appears
to have improved recently. Currently, we are having difficulties treating Mum for an infection within the home which she has been suffering from for longer than I think is acceptable. I hope this is resolved soon. (All care homes are overpriced.)

The staff here are very pleasant and kind to my Grandad. They help him when he needs something (even if he is stubborn!). He says the staff talk to him and have a fun chat and like his jokes.
The drinks in reception are good and also the snacks. It's nice and warm in winter!
A comment by my Grandad
is: "The food can be spicy/salty and unpleasant he can't eat it, not nice for the elderly pallet." - PS We love the cat!
Reply from Artur Adamski, Home Manager at Kippingtons Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing your feedback with us, we really appreciate your comments on our lovely team members - your grandad is a joy for them to care for. We're very sorry to hear about the food being too spicy/salty for him, it is very important to us to cater for our resident's dietary requirements and preferences so we will address this with our hospitality team and ensure the food is more palatable for your grandad. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us!

The residents' activities have been lacking due to staff sickness. Although, when the activities coordinator is working, he instigates games for the residents. The activities coordinator is a 'one in a million' man. He treats the residents with real respect and humour. There are many great nursing staff
who look after the residents and they inform me of any change with Mum. It takes a team to work in a care home and I feel lucky that Mum is a resident at Kippingtons.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Kippingtons Nursing HomeThank you so much for your feedback, Janet, we really appreciate your recognition of our team members and their dedication - our activities coordinator certainly is 'one in a million' and we're so lucky to have him! We appreciate you addressing issues with the consistency of activities - unfortunately, short staffing due to sickness is something that can't always be helped and we do our best to adapt and keep the activities schedule as regular and consistent as possible. Thank you again for your feedback, it means a lot to our team!

On arrival, good parking, always a space. Welcome at reception is excellent - a friendly greeting and smile. Offered drink, cake and fruit. Downstairs, residents look well cared for and happy. Some watching TV, others playing games or listening to music. Sufficient staff available to care for everyone's
needs. The care, Miss Kippington, makes the place seem like home! My friend's room is a good size, comfortable, light and well-decorated with TV and radio. Very clean and warm. My friend is clean and suitably dressed, comfortable, relaxed and happy to be living at Kippingtons Nursing Home. Staff are kind, friendly and helpful and treat the residents with dignity and respect. A pleasant, secure and safe place to be.

Mum came from being neglected in another home and came here, what a difference! From the first day, we were so happy about the care given. All the staff are so patient and lovely to not only Mum but to family too. The food is very good, the setting is beautiful and the care staff as well as all cleaning
staff, food, reception etc. are all very friendly. We as a family couldn't be happier.

Dad has been in Kippingtons for a couple of months now and we are so happy with every aspect of the care he receives. The staff are completely wonderful, always smiling, helpful and unfailingly caring at all times. It’s a blessing and relief for us to know that our Dad is in such a comforting place.
We are given updates on his condition regularly and made aware of any concerns. The care offered is outstanding and we are so grateful to everyone involved in the provision of it.

The staff are all amazing. They work hard and they show empathy, sympathy, love, and understanding. They treat every resident with respect, love and a great deal of understanding, and in many cases very patient with the ones that require extra care. The chefs that work in the home are always very amiable
and always prepared to go the extra mile. Could do with a bit of paint in most rooms, to brighten the place up. I found it to be ok all the time Dad was able to get down to the lounge to join in, but unfortunately, when they get to the stage where they don't leave their rooms, no activities are shared and they are left to family's to share their time, but if families don't visit it must get quite lonely. Would be nice to have a tea and coffee kitchen on each floor to enable families of residents to make coffee and tea as and when required. This would be an advantage to everyone visiting. They do require music or something in the top lounge, a bit of a wasted space, which could be used.

I was taken out for the day for a pub lunch. We went to the pub I used to drink in. We had a lovely day. I even had someone I used to know buy me a drink. The activities coordinators made this day happen and, of course, the bus driver and the care staff who helped me get ready.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.619)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.619) out of 10 for Kippingtons Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.619 for Kippingtons Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (93 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 310 Ratings = 4.619
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kippingtons Nursing Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

“I have always had a passion for health and social care since I cared for my own Grandfather from a young age. I started my career as a healthcare assistant in a nursing home, proceeded to a senior clinical support worker for the NHS on an elderly care ward, which led me to completing my nursing degree.

During my nursing career, I have experienced working on a frailty ward for the NHS, as a Clinical case manager within the community nursing for those in their own homes and within management in nursing homes, which has involved me working on the floor as a registered nurse at times.

I have personal experience of having parents with dementia and making the decision of placing them in care, which I feel gives me increased compassion and empathy for those tackling this decision themselves.

I feel I am committed to ensuring that our residents receive the best quality care with compassion and respect they deserve. I work closely with the residents, relatives and colleagues to ensure Kippington is a warm and friendly atmosphere to live and work in.

My ethos is that I would not ask someone to do something that I have not or would not be prepared to do myself. Teamwork and good communication is key.”
