On every visit to see my mum the staff are happy to help with anything requested and to discuss the care of my mum. In the 8 months that my mum has been at Kippingtons, she has had excellent care from all the staff and is always happy when I ask her. I could not ask for a more home from home room and
care for my mum.

All the staff on every visit have been extremely helpful. They remain very caring and always with a smile on their faces. It has been a very challenging year for staff, residents and family but Kippingtons have dealt with it brilliantly on all levels. Very well done team!

My Aunt has been a resident in 3 different homes since having to move into care in 2017. She continued a marked decline until relocating to Kippington since then she has stabilised and improved in both general health and in the positivity of outlook. I attribute this to the excellent care and general
level of cleanliness and professional attention she has received at Kippington. Thank you.

Mum has been in Kippingtons for just over a year, and the care she has received has been outstanding. All the staff work extremely hard to provide the absolute best for the residents. Mum is treated with dignity at all times. We are so grateful that she is so well cared for, and we are thankful to everyone
who works so hard to maintain such a high level.

Whilst I haven't been able to visit regularly due to Covid rules, all my dealings with the management and staff have been excellent. The manager and deputy manager have been highly responsive and attentive to my requests. The staff come across as genuinely caring. My dad is cheerful and content in his
new surroundings. I understand the need for restrictions on visiting at present, but it will make a massive difference when the riles are relaxing and weekend visits and ad-hoc visits are permitted.

When I came to Kippingtons it was for respite. Since then I have come back home. I found the surroundings very calming - woodlands in the spring with primroses. I enjoy the activities, especially exercises, just like the cheerleaders. I like quizzes and they have them frequently. All the food is good,
just like what we like at home.

My mother has been in Kippington for 18 months. From the start, the staff have been welcoming, caring and very supportive. My mother is comfortable and well looked after. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.

My dad did not want to come to Kippingtons - he wanted to go back home after a stay in hospital. After 2 weeks in Kippingtons he told me he felt safe and comfortable. He praised the staff who cared for him. This has given me, as his daughter, peace of mind that Dad is being well cared for. Thank you
to all the team involved.

We moved Mum from another home after concerns she was mainly in bed all day and had lost her appetite, we decided to make the difficult decision to move Mum.
After my husband and I viewed Kippingtons we were impressed by the home manager. The atmosphere of the home was welcoming with staff and residents
smiling. The home isn't as modern as the other homes we viewed, however, we selected the home as we were confident Mum would receive the care we expected, we were not disappointed. The building is full of history and Mum smiled when she first came into the home, something we had not seen for a long time. Mum was in the home for just under a year and in that time she put on weight and joined in with activities. They have a wonderful activities team and they would often see Mum singing and clapping her hands.
The manager, nurses and all staff are a credit to the care industry and we can't thank them enough for the care and respect they gave to Mum and our family.
Thank you !

We have met many of the residents via playgroup, my toddler daughter loves meeting the 'oldies' and gives cuddles to many. The home is very caring and does activities daily and freshly cooked meals. We love coming and supporting the home and young and old to play and sing together.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.626)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.626) out of 10 for Kippingtons is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.626 for Kippingtons is calculated as follows: ( (222 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 334 Ratings = 4.626
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kippingtons is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Kathryn Paterson

Job Title: Home Manager

I have always had a passion for health and social care since I cared for my own Grandfather from a young age. I started my career as a healthcare assistant in a nursing home, proceeded to a senior clinical support worker for the NHS on an elderly care ward which led me to completing my nursing degree.

During my nursing career I have experienced working on a frailty ward for the NHS, as a Clinical case manager within the community nursing for those in their own homes and within management in nursing homes that has involved me working on the floor as a registered nurse at times.

I have personal experience of having parents with dementia and making the decision of placing them in care which I feel gives me increased compassion and empathy to those tackling this decision themselves.

I feel I am committed to ensuring that our residents receive the best quality care with compassion and respect they deserve. I work closely with the residents, relatives and colleagues to ensure Kippingtons is a warm and friendly atmosphere to live and work in.

My ethos is that I would not ask someone to do something that I have not or would not be prepared to do myself. Teamwork and good communication is key.
