Rooted in the Christian faith, life at Milward House supports residents to live fulfilled lives in their later years. They provide excellent, personalised care which supports residents to flourish in older age.
Milward House has an active social life in which residents can take part or follow their own pursuits. They appreciate that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and they endeavour to support residents to maintain this important part of their lives. Residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want - residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper (by arrangement) or a good book from the home’s own collection.
Their weekly programme includes activities such as board games, annual holiday week, hymn singing, food events, flower arranging, arm chair exercises and craft classes. There are also coffee mornings, clothing and book sales by mobile outlets and visits by local Christian choirs and musicians. A hairdresser visits once a week. A team of ‘Friends’ of the home support and befriend residents by coming to see them on a regular basis. In addition, residents benefit from the involvement in the life of the home from likeminded Christians living in the Retirement Living housing units on site.
Their Christian background is at the heart of both their values and their actions. At Milward House they try to create a community where Christian worship, prayer and support are a core part of daily life. They have morning devotions Monday – Friday, Sunday services, a monthly communion service and monthly Residents prayer meeting. There are a number of churches of various denominations within easy reach of the home.

This was a fortnight's respite stay in Milward House. My Mother had not been in a care home ever before so was a bit anxious but the staff were lovely and really put her at ease. She is used to getting her own meals but not to the longer walk required to reach the dining area but I'm sure it did her good to walk more. She absolutely loved the visits from the Pastor and the communal singing, something she has missed since she can't attend church anymore. I think, given more time, she could have felt like Milward House was her home eventually.
We would be delighted to welcome Mum back at any time should she wish to return.
We are kept well informed about Mum's health. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. They are kind and look after Mum well, one even sitting with her through the night when she was ill. We are very happy with the care given to Mum.

Thank you for your kind words. It is a pleasure to have your mum living with us.

I have found the home to be excellent in terms of meeting my brother's needs. The staff have been very attentive to his needs and the management are very caring and supportive. It is a predominantly Christian home which is ideal for my brother who has always maintained a strong faith. It is not the most modern of homes in terms of facilities but this is more than made up for by the caring and loving atmosphere.
Thank you for your great review - it has been a pleasure getting to know your brother and the family over the last few weeks.
Welcomed by name. Comfortable, clean room to meet residents.

- Requires Improvement - The service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
- Inadequate - The service is performing badly and we've taken action against the person or organisation that runs it.
- Not rated - we have not yet rated this area of the service, this is normally because the assessments we have carried out have been focused on other key questions.

Sid joined the team at Milward House in January 2023. He has attended his church since coming to faith over 25 years ago and led the youth group in the early 2000s. After working for a decade as a chef, he served as a church administrator for more than 15 years where he gained useful skills and experience around finance, premises concerns, safeguarding etc. which he is keen to use to bless all at Milward House.
He lives with his wife, two of their five grown-up children, and a one-eyed cat named Horatio. He is a keen cyclist and has cycled from London to Amsterdam to raise funds for the National Autistic Society.
