Overall very good care home. The staff are very helpful and kind. The downside sometimes long waits to get up in the morning and to go back to your room after breakfast.
Reply from Lee Rubens, Client Liaison Manager at Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your review Aileen and it was a pleasure having you stay with us. While we will always aim to help you get up and get back to your room as promptly as possible the mornings are very busy for the team so we appreciate your patience and will do our best to be more prompt on future stays.

I am very grateful to be a resident at the Miramar. The care shown to everyone by everyone on the staff is first class. It is a happy home in all respects. The food sometimes lets it down a bit e.g soups used to be home made now made with powder and often very thin that is my only criticism. We are
encouraged to take part in as many physical activities as we are capable of, Yoga, Taichi, walks around the garden, and longer walks along the cliffs. The activities staff are excellent, offer a choice of activities to keep our minds active, quizzes, music craft, art class every week and trip out on the mini bus. The home is always clean and the carers always there when you want help. Altogether a good home.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
A care home offering assisted living with a scale able support package for people to live independently behind their own front door in good quality accommodation by the sea. The service is at the top end of the market promising 5 star luxury. We used the service for respite care which did not live up
to expectation as it was let down by poor team communication, between nursing and care staff. The quality of care and support varies depending on which team of staff were on duty and the model is far more intrusive than clients are led to believe - front door frequently opened and left open by staff doing 2 hourly checks during the night. The experience for my mother was not a positive one so we terminated her stay early at her request.
Reply from Darren Humby, General Manager at Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareWe appreciate that not everyone feels that they have had a perfect experience every time but coming in to a care home for the first time can take some getting use to and acclimatising to the environment and staff. A few days for some people to settle is not long enough, building good relationships between care staff and new residents can take time. As shown within the many received reviews we endeavour daily to ensure our residents are wonderfully cared for and receive the highest quality care.

The Miramar is my home! It is a Happy Home, and I (of very sound mind!) chose that my wife and I would spend the rest of our lives here!
I could not wish for a nicer place to live, nor a more caring staff to look after my wife and others who require help. The management team deserve plaudits for their
caring leadership and the excellent training they give to their staff.
My wife and I feel most fortunate to have found this "Home", which we now call our own!
Sincerely!

I have been a resident for seven months needing as little care as possible, although I appreciate I am deteriorating weekly. I enjoy the activities and outings very much. The food is excellent although I feel there is rather too much cakes, biscuits, ice-cream etc, but that is just me and I know it
is very much appreciated by others. I am very content to spend the rest of my days here if I can afford it.

My husband and I have lived here for almost three years. My husbands health began to fail in the summer and he died here in mid September. The care he received from the staff and regular visiting Doctor and the love and support we both received could not have been better.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Miramar Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Miramar Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (232 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 325 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Miramar Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 108 registered maximum number of service users is 21.6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
