Mum and Dad have been residents at the Miramar for nearly two years . From the time they joined the Miramar family they have had nothing but positive and lovely things to say about each and every one of the staff . Nothing is ever too much trouble and everyone approaches everything they do with kindness
and patience. The activities, entertainment and outings provided for the residents ensure there really is never a dull moment and they often remark that it feels more like a hotel than a care home. Miramar operates an open visiting policy and every time we visit we are greeted by engaging and smiley staff and a warm atmosphere. Dad still can't believe there is coffee and freshly baked cakes on tap !
Thank you Miramar for all that you have done and all you continue doing . Karen Ross

I can not rate the management and leadership of the Miramar Care Home highly enough. Nothing is too much trouble and all teams demonstrate high levels of care. It is so hard placing a loved one in someone else's care but I know I could not keep him as well, both mentally and physically as the Miramar
team!
Thank you all!

Miramar is an exceptional care home that my mum has her called home for 4 years. The facilities are excellent and of high quality. The hotel standard makes it a very comfortable and pleasant place to be with high quality dining, a cafe area and lovely grounds. The wellbeing team provide a daily activity
schedule of interactive games, quizzes, music and wellbeing focused activities. However the key componant are the staff who are approachable, friendly and dedicated. My mum sadly became quite ill recently and the staff have been so supportive and genuinely thoughtful. It was a tough set if circumstances that brought us to Miramar but I can honestly say it was totally the right decision for my mum. The next period may be very different for mum and I am hopeful that the team will support her with the dignity and care she will need.
Reply from Louise Vickers, Manager at Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. It means a great deal to the whole team.
Thank you for placing your trust in us to care for your Mum. We appreciate your kind words and look forward to continuing to support your Mum with the dignity, care and respect she deserves

From the 5th to the 12th of September 2025, I spent Respite Care at Miramare Care Home - Herne Bay. A wonderful time as soon as I entered the door. I had met the residents before as I help a lady with singing once a fortnight. So very happy time, such care and attention. I will book myself in once again,
maybe in 2029. Still filling my bucket wish on my own home as a present.
Reply from Louise Vickers, Manager at Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for your wonderful feedback, I will pass your comments onto the team, we are so glad you enjoyed your respite stay with us and look forward to seeing you each week at Choir and hope you will choose us for another stay in the future.

Miramar is an outstanding care home. All staff including carers, admin and management team, activities staff, catering staff, cleaning staff go above and beyond to help our mum to feel happy, active, mentally stimulated and safe. Our mum has been a resident at Miramar for just over a year and during
this time her physical and mental health has significantly improved. She has formed lovely connections with all of the staff and is always smiling and laughing when we visit. The activities schedule is excellent, mum has been taken on lots of lovely trips to theatres, galleries, gardens and on coastal walks. The variety of entertainers is amazing, mum particularly enjoys the choir and exercise classes and has discovered her love of art. We love spending time in the beautiful garden during the Summer months especially when the care home hosts the Spring and Summer festivals for friends and family.

My father arrived in March and had difficulty in adjusting to new surroundings. However the Care Staff have gone out of their way to help him settle. A big shout out to Chrissy the Manager who has gone out of her way to help Dad settle. He now is happy and joining in with a lot of the activities which
is great.

My mother was well looked after during her three years of residence by the members of staff and management at the Miramar. They showed great professionalism and compassion in sometimes difficult circumstances due to my mother's mental health issues. Our family remains very grateful for the care that
was delivered, for the availability of staff and management. It was a very reassuring experience for our family.

Following a fairly long spell in hospital with several failed discharges my relative transferred to the care of the Miramar with an efficient and timely admission and a warm welcome by every staff member they came in to contact with. Their accommodation is beyond what we imagined, and provides a spotlessly
clean and comfortable home, and a place to welcome friends and family to visit which is so important. The Miramar feels like a well appointed, well run hotel and we are particularly impressed by both the staff to resident ratios, levels of respect towards residents, visitors and each other, and the gentle encouragement seen towards residents of all abilities. We have witnessed an impressive focus on our relatives' physical and mental health with real clarity, immediate registration and liaison with GP's and other medical services. Communication and consultation with us has been excellent. In a few months we recognise tangible physical progress, and improvements in sociability.

I am extremely grateful for the care provided by the Miramar. Every member of staff is kind and friendly. The care is excellent and that is the most important thing of all. There are plenty of activities for residents, although these don't always appeal to everyone and the format of the notices about
the activities is not very appealing to someone with poor eyesight or limited cognitive function. The old version with colour and pictures was much better.
On the whole the food is excellent, but there are some days when I hear it's not so good. I appreciate how hard it is to please everyone! The only issue I have had a few times is with communication but overall the care home is well managed, if a bit expensive. The staff go out of their way to provide a home from home and to help with the transition to care for residents and relatives - always a difficult one. Thank you.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have three weeks respite care at the Miramar.
We were warmly welcomed and were impressed by the friendliness of all of the staff.
The food was excellent, particularly as my husband is 100+ and enjoys plain cooking.
Our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom 'flatlet' was PERFECT
and we hope to go back for some more respite in the not too distant future!

It's been one week since my mother moved into Miramar and so far, we are all very impressed. The staff are extremely attentive, personable and caring. You can tell they understand the challenges seniors face moving into a new home and they're patient and gentle with everyone.
In addition, the other
residents seem happy and the environment feels very interactive between residents and staff. It's kept immaculately clean but has lots of touches that make it feel friendly and open. I researched dozens of care homes and Miramar was unmatched.

Mum loved it here, she was more a live and happy than she has been in a very long time. She was smiley and her eyes were alive. The staff were all lovely, helpful and got mum washed dressed and her nails cut when all other care services couldn't. The whole experience was amazing for mum and all the
family and mum can't wait to come back. She also loved the food - which there was plenty pf - shes not eaten so well and also went out and did activities for the 1st time in years.

We researched and visited a considerable number of care homes before choosing Miramar as not our closest but the best.
It is characterised by smiles and helpfulness with facilities like those of a good hotel. It is much appreciated by my wife. She agrees with this assessment.
As a visitor, though
a frequent one, it is difficult to choose between good and excellent below, especially without current comparison, value for money particularly so. The horrendous sums critically decimating life savings and meagre pensions inflict pain and worry though we know overheads are high in a criminally underfunded sector.

We have found in the last eighteen months a decline in overall satisfaction. My father has had issues with these on the whole have been dealt with. However, he has complained about rough treatment in the mornings and has said he is not woken for meals at some times. Overall, just needs a little attention
to people in your care, so they feel better, other than just someone who is there.

The care my mother has directly received has been good. My issue with the Miramar has been the loss of two gold necklaces from my mother. The first went missing in 2023 and the second in 2024. These were necklaces she never took off and I fear were taken from her. Her dementia makes her unaware of them
being missing. The first was my father's wedding ring and therefore huge sentimental value.
Reply from Louise Vickers, Manager at Miramar Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for sharing your feedback. I can understand how concerning it must be to have sentimental items go missing. While I have been the manager at Miramar since April 2024 and wasn't previously aware of this. I want to assure you that I take matters like this very seriously. I would like the opportunity to discuss this with you and understand more about your experience. Please feel free to reach out to me directly, and I would be happy to talk through any concerns you may have.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.618 for Miramar Care Home - Avery Healthcare is calculated as follows: ( (232 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 325 Ratings = 4.618
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Miramar Care Home - Avery Healthcare is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 108 registered maximum number of service users is 21.6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
