The staff generally look after my mother extremely well. It is, of course, currently, difficult to comment too much, as due to the pandemic, I have only recently started having short, weekly 30 minute visits with her in the Home. But they have coped so well during this pandemic and I commend them. The Skype calls have helped a lot. If there is one thing I would fault, it is communication. Particularly during the pandemic, one has felt very much in the dark about what is going on there. There would be a benefit from having a regular (possibly monthly) communication giving details of the following:
a) staff changes, new staff names.
b) changes in rules. For example, flowers were not allowed in as from late last year. This rule had not been communicated. I ordered some expensive flowers to be delivered to my mother just before Christmas. This was a complete waste of money as they were not allowed in. Very annoying, this could have been avoided.

c) what activities are undertaken with residents.

Reply from Paul Burns, Director at Wells Lodge Nursing Home

We clearly need to learn from your comments on communication and I must apologise but evolving infection control guidance, during the pandemic, made decision making on items such as flowers not easy to manage. We will however make every effort to learn from your very helpful observations.

When our mother was discharged to Wells Lodge from the hospital, we didn't know what to expect. We have been very happy though that she is there. All the staff are so helpful, caring and happy to keep us updated. Each area of her care was fully explained. Her room is lovely, bright and sunny. She can see the bird feeders outside her room. There are many activities if she wishes to join in. Skype calls are available. It's lovely and clean, and we couldn't wish for a better environment for our mother to be cared for in.

Following a month's stay in hospital just prior to the lockdown, my uncle’s previous home refused to allow him to return due to fear of COVID infection. Wells Lodge were happy to accept him subject to undergoing a two-week isolation in his new room. All the staff have been professional and caring towards my uncle, helping him settle into his new home. He is very happy at Wells Lodge.

Due to current visiting restrictions, he is not allowed visitors. The home keeps me updated on his well-being regularly and post general home events via social media which is nice to see.

My next-door neighbour and very close friend has been a resident since late September 2019 and the transition between home and residential care has been handled professionally and with dignity and kindness. Every effort by all the wonderful staff has enabled my dear friend to settle into her new home. It is reassuring to know that she is in safe hands. Thank you all.

I have been very impressed with the way the Wells Lodge staff have taken my mum and dad into the home. They have managed my mum's medication and got it back on track from where she was at home. They have been in contact with the Hospice Team who had been monitoring Mum while she was at home.
They have therefore fully appraised themselves of my mum's condition, which helps with her continuing care.
Wells Lodge are also looking after my dad to a similar level. My brother and I are very happy with the standard of care being given and the overall condition of the home.

Very welcoming and positive.

Wells Lodge is a 'happy home'. Mainly because, from the manager to nurses, they bring their experience to the table, as do the carers, activities lady, laundry lady and cook.

Overall Experience

My aunt has spent 9 weeks in Wells Lodge following a hospital admission. She had fallen, lacked confidence, deteriorated mobility and pressure wounds. The care and attention from all members of staff towards her has been excellent. They are kind, attentive, caring and give individual time. The nursing staff have attended to her wound which has now healed. She has special dietary needs which have been met, always a choice of diet and well presented and gained weight. Improvement in mobility. Now returned home. Communication with the manager and staff has been excellent. Can't speak highly enough for everything they have done for my aunt.

My friend has been here for 8 weeks. She was recovering from hospital stays and quite unwell and unhappy. There isn't a member of staff who wasn't really kind and friendly and could not do enough to make her stay special. She loved them all and really enjoyed the planned activities. The home was clean, warm and food was brilliantly tailored to her needs.

Lovely homely care home with amazing, friendly, caring staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are caring and polite. The home has lovely grounds and views. The food is really really good. (I know because I have tried it myself). I can't praise this home too much.

I am extremely happy with my mother's care and finally, I know my mother is too. Highly recommend this care home. You will not be disappointed.

My mother stayed at Wells Lodge after 5 months of being in and out of the hospital due to various illnesses. She was declined by 2 other homes but thankfully Wells Lodge accepted her as a resident. Mum was 95 and at end of life and during her time in the home she was treated with kindness, respect and dignity. They offered support to all the family particularly my dad. We could not have asked for better care. Thank you.
