Abingdon Court is a recently refurbished purpose-built care home offering residential, nursing and dementia care.

The 'home from home' feel at Abingdon Court is created by the dedicated staff who have been selected not only for their professional ability but also for their commitment to truly making a difference for the people in their care.

Residents' rooms are spacious and feature en suite facilities. The communal areas are at the centre of what makes Abingdon Court a real community whether it be at meal times or when enjoying activities. There are no fixed visiting hours so friends and family can come and see residents at any time.

The dining experience at Abingdon Court boasts fine home cooking by a professional Chef who has created a menu to reflect the interests and tastes of the discerning residents.

Activities and day trips are an integral part of the residents' well being. The activities coordinator encourages and helps residents continue with existing interests and also introduces new hobbies. The minibus is used frequently to take residents on day trips near and a little further from the home. The trips are very popular and recently, days out to Millets Farm, Notcutts Garden Centre, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens and Dorchester Abbey have been greatly enjoyed.

Respite care at Abingdon Court is very popular and enables those wishing to experience what the Home has to offer before making a full commitment.

My father died on 1st September and had spent 2 years and 3 months in the Care Home. From day one to the last, all members of staff that had supported my father were exceptional and obviously provided first-class caring throughout. I cannot thank them enough.
The only major downside was that the Government
has gone absent without leave to support the caring sector. All staff deserve better and deserve the level of support that they gave my father in his last years.
He would not have lived to the age of 94 without the Care Home providing quality support. Thank You.

From the day my father entered the care home, the staff's care and professionalism were outstanding.
My father spent almost two years at Abingdon Court. His personal care was exceptional, and as his health deteriorated, the carers completed the tasks he was unable to do for himself. He loved a wet
shave, and up to the day he died, this ritual was carried out!
The activities were all designed to help alleviate boredom, and Dad enjoyed joining in.
The staff went above and beyond in caring for him and loved to spend time with him chatting.
Would highly recommend this care home. We had a couple of previous experiences with not such happy results.
From the management at the top to the ancillary staff, it was excellent.

My father lived to 101 and 5 months and I believe this is due to the care he had at Abingdon Court Care Home.
He was 99 when he went in for respite and stayed! He was so happy and cared for.
I was alwaus made very welcome and my frequent visits to him. I felt part of the family and still do. My
father loved the staff.
The staff are lovely, genuine, caring people. Always ready to help and never mind giving you their time.

Last October. my mum moved here from another care home in her home town to be nearer to me (her son). She passed away on Saturday 29th July.
From the day she arrived, she was actively involved in the regular activities and in a matter of days her mental stimulation, quality of life and enjoyment were
transformed.
The care she received brought her out of her shell and helped improve her mobility and she was soon able to visit me at home in her wheelchair and get back a semblance of normal life.
On every occasion that I raised a query or asked for something to be done, whether with the manager, the carers or the nurses, it was done.
I’m so grateful that she was able to end her days happy and in such a lovely environment. She really enjoyed her time here and it's left me with memories of her laughing and joking and talking to me about all of the activities she was involved in and the friends she had made.

Mum has been in the care of Abingdon Court Care Home now since last November and since mum arrived the management and care staff have welcomed mum with a high standard of love, care, dignity and empathy. Mum has vascular dementia and grieving the loss of her husband and change of accommodation all over
a period of six months, the staff cannot be faulted in any way, they made this transition a lot easier than could have been expected. The care they are providing for my mum is excellent, myself and my sister are very grateful to them, they are wonderful people looking after my mum in a caring, professional way that makes this difficult situation a little easier as I am living outside the UK. Thank you to all management, nursing staff, carers and everyone involved in caring for my mum on behalf of myself and my sister and mum's daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Thank you, you're all heroes.

I have not commented on facilities and activities because I don't think my husband took part. Basically, I and all the family were overwhelmed by the care that was shown to all of us - we felt we mattered.

The staff could not have done more to make my friend feel happy and well cared for. They always let me know if there were any problems with her health and they had informed the GP. Towards the end of her life, the staff did everything to make her comfortable and included her in all activities.

From day one, I have been so pleased with Abingdon Court Care Home.

Just want to say a huge thank you to Abingdon Court. My nan was in there for just under a year and she was dearly looked after. All the staff made me feel welcomed there and I could have not wished for a better care home than this one.

The standard of care at the home is adequate. What is lacking is communication. A person on each floor is required to liaise with visitors. To update them on the resident's health, progress or problems. Residents, often, cannot answer questions themselves. Visitors should not be expected to have to
go and find the nurse, who is often unavailable, or carers who are always busy. Also, more should be done to deal with the 'typical care home' smell, immediately apparent on entering the lift.

My husband had been in Abingdon Court since 2018, and I can honestly say that I found the care he received excellent. Over the years, I came to know the staff well on my husband's floor and was always warmly welcomed on my visits. I was regularly consulted and kept very well informed of any issues regarding
his care and if I had any concerns at all over his health, I was able to voice these and be heard. His personal hygiene was well looked after and his room and clothes were always clean. It was obvious to me that the staff cared a great deal about my husband and enjoyed interactions with him when he was able to communicate. They treated him with dignity and recognised what he had achieved in his life. When he was no longer able to feed himself, his carers would be there for every meal making sure he was well nourished and hydrated. He seemed happy and content in Abingdon Court which is all I could wish for. My thanks go out to the excellent manager and staff at the home.

I was very happy to see my sister being well taken care of. No matter when I went in to see her, she always looked very clean and hair done. The place was always very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only bad thing I have to say is the parking. It's a shame next door won't let
you park there.

My mother has been a resident of Abingdon Court for just over 5 years. She's been very happy during her time there and has always been treated with kindness and respect. Until recently she has taken part in activities, which she enjoyed. The activities team are great organising things to do which are
fun and enjoyable. She has been very poorly recently and in fact, died this week. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff whose care and kindness to us all made such a difference at this difficult time. Everyone from the manager down is friendly and welcoming.

My mother was transferred from a very busy major hospital in the final hours of her life. This provided her and her family with a quiet place where they could be together in the final hours. The staff at the care home did everything they could to make her and the family comfortable during this period.

I visit as a friend taking my neighbour (who is the resident's partner) by car. From my visits, I find the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The whole residence is very clean and homely.

My mum was accepted to Abingdon Court Care Home in Feb '21 after she had severe dementia. The care home have always kept me updated on everything that happened to Mum. She was treated like a family member by the amazing carers and nurses who showed her so much love. They also treated us as a family
with so much respect, care, and support.

Lindsey

Lindsey Sivyer

Job Title: Dementia Ambassador Joined: 2018

Lindsey is Abingdon Court's Dementia Ambassador, and can often be seen in and around Reception, or showing new families around the home.


She is responsible for the promotion of best practice when it comes to caring for those living with dementia and trains our team regularly on new techniques.


Outside of work, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her 8 grandchildren and tidying up her garden, particularly in the sunshine.
