The standard of care at the home is adequate. What is lacking is communication. A person on each floor is required to liaise with visitors. To update them on the resident's health, progress or problems. Residents, often, cannot answer questions themselves. Visitors should not be expected to have to go and find the nurse, who is often unavailable, or carers who are always busy. Also, more should be done to deal with the 'typical care home' smell, immediately apparent on entering the lift.

My husband had been in Abingdon Court since 2018, and I can honestly say that I found the care he received excellent. Over the years, I came to know the staff well on my husband's floor and was always warmly welcomed on my visits. I was regularly consulted and kept very well informed of any issues regarding his care and if I had any concerns at all over his health, I was able to voice these and be heard. His personal hygiene was well looked after and his room and clothes were always clean. It was obvious to me that the staff cared a great deal about my husband and enjoyed interactions with him when he was able to communicate. They treated him with dignity and recognised what he had achieved in his life. When he was no longer able to feed himself, his carers would be there for every meal making sure he was well nourished and hydrated. He seemed happy and content in Abingdon Court which is all I could wish for. My thanks go out to the excellent manager and staff at the home.

Reply from Flenton D'Cruz, Home Manager at Abingdon Court Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to write such kind words about the care we were able to provide for your husband. Our staff members will be both rewarded and motivated to hear that their high level of care and support was so much appreciated by you. It has been our privilege to care for your husband during his time here at Abingdon Court. Our sincerest condolences to you.

I was very happy to see my sister being well taken care of. No matter when I went in to see her, she always looked very clean and hair done. The place was always very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only bad thing I have to say is the parking. It's a shame next door won't let you park there.

My mother has been a resident of Abingdon Court for just over 5 years. She's been very happy during her time there and has always been treated with kindness and respect. Until recently she has taken part in activities, which she enjoyed. The activities team are great organising things to do which are fun and enjoyable. She has been very poorly recently and in fact, died this week. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff whose care and kindness to us all made such a difference at this difficult time. Everyone from the manager down is friendly and welcoming.

My mother was a resident for five years and was happy and content taking part in activities. She always received excellent care, particularly during the last month of her life when she was lovingly cared for. From reception through to catering and nursing care - my family are all grateful.

My mother was transferred from a very busy major hospital in the final hours of her life. This provided her and her family with a quiet place where they could be together in the final hours. The staff at the care home did everything they could to make her and the family comfortable during this period. The room was peaceful and clean.

My mum was accepted to Abingdon Court Care Home in Feb '21 after she had severe dementia. The care home have always kept me updated on everything that happened to Mum. She was treated like a family member by the amazing carers and nurses who showed her so much love. They also treated us as a family with so much respect, care, and support.

Very happy with the level of care/support. Great staff. Great management.

Cannot really comment on food as I didn't visit near mealtimes. However, the snacks served in my father's room looked good.

My mother spent her last 3 months in the care of Abingdon Court Care Home until she sadly died. Throughout she was treated with respect and love. I was allowed to visit every day as she was deemed 'end of life' care and I would arrive at different times each day and she was always well cared for. The staff all had so much patience and professionalism. The home was always clean and well managed. All the staff treated me also with kindness and always went out of their way to help.

I can only commend the high level of care given to my friend, whose medical needs are complex. Staff have been very considerate as to his times of confusion and need for understanding. Initially, communications with myself were poor but have since improved. I appreciate the demands on the staff during this exceptional time has been more than challenging. I have felt very safe with the measure put in place to allow visiting.

Cannot fault this establishment. Very professional taking all care of Re COVID. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful. It was so good to get this visit. My friend is loving it in this care home., allowing him his pleasure of gardening, even has an indoor greenhouse for seedlings. High standards and lovely to see residents walking in the garden if able.

My wife became a resident in June 2019, she had dementia. Sadly she passed away on the 11th March 2021, the care she received throughout her stay was exemplary. She was treated with love, compassion and respect. I don't want to name names but all of the staff on the 2nd floor have my undying respect and thanks for the way they have treated my wife, and all the other residents, they are all now regarded as my friends.
