All staff were helpful, caring and kind. The room was pleasant with a good view and relevant facilities. Any requests and concerns were dealt with in a helpful manner.

I valued the compassion showed by all staff not only towards my mother but our whole family at a particularly distressing time for us all. We were made to feel welcome at the home and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. All our questions were answered and we were dealt with in a very caring and considerate manner. The care my mother received during her last days was second to none and the staff were wonderful, a credit to the home.

Overall Experience

My wife was wheelchair bound because of strokes, arthritis and vascular dementia. She had severe swallowing problems, and was fed liquids through a m/g tube. There were 5 feeding sessions per day. The nursing staff were excellent. The carers were also good. There were occasional lapses where the instruction from the nurses appeared not have got through to the carers. But on the whole, the carers were also very good. In June, my wife was back for respite; I had no hesitation in putting her in Green Gates Nursing Home. My wife passed away during her stay, and the staff dealt with this very sensitively, and very professionally. The staff were very kind to the next of kin.

Overall Experience

My late mother's cousin was admitted to Green Gates having suffered a debilitating stroke. During the three months of the stay he was well cared for, nursed and nurtured. The room was a little on the small side, especially as he was unable to get out and enjoy any of his precious activities. However, the food was good and staff were always cheerful even when he could be somewhat demanding. During his final two week illness, the staff were wonderful, attentive, caring and going beyond what I could have hoped for. I don't think the care could have been better anywhere, even if he had he been in a hospice.

My mother was transferred to Green Gates from hospital for palliative care. Green Gates was chosen for the friendly and efficient manner and the care that was given. Staff were professional, it was an unfortunately short stay, because mum passed away, the family were very happy with the way mum was treated in her final days. Thank you.

Overall Experience

When visiting for a preliminary discussion, my son and I were met with warmth and kindness. During my husbands stay for palliative care, nothing was too much trouble and we were all treated as members of a family. As he became weaker his needs were treated with dignity and respect. The staff worked hard to treat everyone as an individual and there were excellent opportunities to join in, with music performances and art activities. Both myself and my husbands visitors were very impressed with the standard and delivery of care. Thank you to everyone.

The staff were friendly and helpful, appearing to treat residents kindly. Rooms were bright and appeared well maintained, although the first room my aunt stayed in was not good value however, as it was small and poorly laid out such that the cupboard doors were impeded by the bed. The lounge areas were pleasant and comfortable for residents to meet with visitors. Green Gates was convenient for my aunt as it was in her home town and made visiting easy for her friends. In terms of decor layout, and facilities Green Gates struggles to compete with modern, purpose built homes but is homely.

My wife was at Green Gates for end of life care, she had lung cancer. I could not have placed her in a better care home. The staff there are excellent, nothing was too much trouble for them. They were caring, but also treated my wife as a friend. The food was very good and the home was kept very clean. The best comment I can make about the care home came from my wife, she said Green Gates was her home and she is very happy here. I would highly recommend Green Gates to friends. Excellent and thank you for your care of my wife.

Top-notch care in all aspects (I rarely mark anything Excellent, as I have below); I have been particularly impressed by the food - varied and inventive for a vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free-except-for-goats-dairy-products diet - the more appreciated as I was short term. Carers friendly, helpful. Admin staff, especially receptionist with whom I had many dealings, were helpful and caring. Odd problems ironed out quickly and effectively. I experienced a level of TLC I would never have anticipated in an institution. The food remains the unexpected jewel in the crown, but all care was excellent.

Green Gates provides all the care that one would expect of a thoroughly professional organisation. It has excellent nursing care and an outstanding staff support the medical team. My mother was resident for nearly four months and I never had anything but the best impressions of everyone right the way through from the maintenance workers and the carers to the manager, admin and receptionist. The receptionist never seems to take any time off! She is always there; friendly, concerned and helpful. Green Gates is not a new building, but all the better for that. It has a mature charm and - although the rooms are quite small - provides comfortable, warm, clean and homely accommodation. If there is a better care home anywhere I would like to know just how it could excel the standards and compassion that you will find at Green Gates.

Overall Experience

We were given a list of residents homes by a hospice. Green Gates was one of the two choices of homes we were able to visit. Initially we could see that this particular home would be very suitable because of the depth of feeling shown by the staff. We were shown every communal aspect and instantly knew that our mother would be taken care of at the highest level. We were also shown the room available and told that we would be able to bring personal items to make it homely. This was important to us. Although our mum was only there for a short time the care extended to her was very appropriate. Her passing away was handled very sensitively by the staff. They treated her with dignity and grace- just as if she had been their mum.

My mother, used to live in a first floor flat on her own. When she moved to Green Gates she had a lovely room overlooking the garden, her own loo and lots of lovely friendly staff to talk to, good food and she didn't have to cook herself, lots of tea and delicious cake. She had her washing done and her room was cleaned every day. She didn't want to go into a home and she made quite a fuss when the day came to move. She was welcomed by lots of smiley faces and soon got used to the idea.

Overall Experience

My aunt entered Green Gates Nursing Home at the age of 99, having had a fall at home, then a fall in hospital. She was mentally confused, heavily bruised on her face, and also very fragile physically, and had suffered from arthritis for some years. Over the 18 months she spent at Green Gates she remained in bed, and never once complained of anything; she was as comfortable as she could possibly be. Her bruising disappeared and she looked bright and young in the face. She slowly declined mentally while there because of the effect of her falls, but was always cheerful and without any discomfort. I attribute the comfort of her stay entirely to the complete professionalism of the Green Gates staff at all levels. They were cheerful; they stimulated my aunt by talking to her at mealtimes; they were most attentive to her hydration and to avoiding bedsores which otherwise could have been a problem; they were always most professional. If there was anything that caused them concern they unfailingly contacted me and discussed the matter with me. If I was concerned with anything they were always available to discuss my concern. Compared with other nursing homes it may be expensive, but I would regard it as good value for money.

Very pleased that they were able to accommodate my mother for respite/recuperation at short notice. Big effort made to welcome my mother and find out her preferences and keep her happy by wheeling her out into the garden and giving her space to paint. She enjoyed the food and occasional glass of alcohol before her evening meal. There was unfortunately a resident in a nearby room who was obviously incontinent and so there was an unpleasant odour from his room, but the rest of the building did not smell. The garden was much appreciated. Corridors narrow and twisty!

I am the home manager at Green Gates. I worked in the NHS for some years after qualifying as a nurse. My speciality was orthopaedics. When I had my first child I decided to leave the NHS and move into the care sector. I have now been a manager for approximately 10 years.

What I love most about my job is the variety - every day is different.

Outside of work, I live in Bicester with my husband and two children who are 7 and 12 years old. I enjoy reading and travelling.

Louise De Fraine
Louise De FraineJob Title:Financial AdministratorJoined: 2018

I joined Bupa in 2018, initially as a carer. I completed my NVQ3 and became a senior carer before moving to the financial administrator role around 18 months ago. My job involves managing the financial accounts of all residents and keeping the system up to date. It also involves ordering, payments, managing petty cash and completing financial reports.

Before joining Bupa, I worked in retail management and various HR positions for about 16 years. Following my nan getting dementia - which progressed very quickly - and spending a lot of time with her, I thought a career in care might be something I could be good at. When I turned 40, I bit the bullet and applied at Green Gates.

I love being able to help people - whether it be residents, staff or visitors. If I can do something that makes their life a little easier or puts a smile on their face, I can go home happy.

I am a confident, hard-working woman and pride myself on doing a good job. I have RA which I manage well and do not let hold me back. I have a partner called Dave and one son who is nearly 25. Outside of work, I like music, books and a good horror film!

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 after completing a diploma in general nursing and midwifery in India. I worked in a hospital in India until 2002 before moving to the UK. I have worked for Bupa since April 2005.

I love my job - every day is different at Green Gates and I enjoy building relationships with our residents and their families.

I have two children and live with my family in Oxford. Outside of work, I love keeping active - going to the gym and for walks. I also like going to India to see my family and friends at least once every year.
