Green Gates offers residential, nursing, palliative, post-operative and respite care as well as support for adults with long term conditions. The home also offers a space for people to rest, relax and recover for short stays too!

Situated in the pleasant area of Summertown the home has a lovely relaxed homely atmosphere and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with outdoor seating. There are also multiple communal areas and private dining facilities helping residents to relax and socialise.

The home retains many of its original features with rooms of varying sizes and aspects to suit an individual’s needs. All rooms are en-suite with bathroom facilities, Wi-Fi, and Smart TV included.

Green Gates is located in a prime area of North Oxford, conveniently located between Oxford city centre and Oxford Ring Road and is within a short walk to Summertown shopping centre. There is a frequent bus service to Oxford city centre just 100 yards away.

Mealtimes and special occasions are important to the home’s life, with food prepared by their chef manager and a balanced diet enjoyed by all. Afternoon tea and homemade cake are popular additions to the menu!

My aunt entered Green Gates Nursing Home at the age of 99, having had a fall at home, then a fall in hospital. She was mentally confused, heavily bruised on her face, and also very fragile physically, and had suffered from arthritis for some years. Over the 18 months she spent at Green Gates she remained
in bed, and never once complained of anything; she was as comfortable as she could possibly be. Her bruising disappeared and she looked bright and young in the face. She slowly declined mentally while there because of the effect of her falls, but was always cheerful and without any discomfort. I attribute the comfort of her stay entirely to the complete professionalism of the Green Gates staff at all levels. They were cheerful; they stimulated my aunt by talking to her at mealtimes; they were most attentive to her hydration and to avoiding bedsores which otherwise could have been a problem; they were always most professional. If there was anything that caused them concern they unfailingly contacted me and discussed the matter with me. If I was concerned with anything they were always available to discuss my concern. Compared with other nursing homes it may be expensive, but I would regard it as good value for money.

Very pleased that they were able to accommodate my mother for respite/recuperation at short notice. Big effort made to welcome my mother and find out her preferences and keep her happy by wheeling her out into the garden and giving her space to paint. She enjoyed the food and occasional glass of alcohol
before her evening meal. There was unfortunately a resident in a nearby room who was obviously incontinent and so there was an unpleasant odour from his room, but the rest of the building did not smell. The garden was much appreciated. Corridors narrow and twisty!

Spacious rooms available for residential or nursing care. Our bedrooms are tastefully decorated and offer en-suite facilities, some with garden views. All of the rooms are fitted with flat screen TVs, electronically controlled beds and telephone points. Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with their own possessions, such as ornaments, pictures and smaller items of furniture.

Sharon Lamb

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2023

I am the home manager at Green Gates. I worked in the NHS for some years after qualifying as a nurse. My speciality was orthopaedics. When I had my first child I decided to leave the NHS and move into the care sector. I have now been a manager for approximately 10 years.


What I love most about my job is the variety - every day is different.


Outside of work, I live in Bicester with my husband and two children who are 7 and 12 years old. I enjoy reading and travelling.

Job Title: Financial Administrator Joined: 2018

I joined Bupa in 2018, initially as a carer. I completed my NVQ3 and became a senior carer before moving to the financial administrator role around 18 months ago. My job involves managing the financial accounts of all residents and keeping the system up to date. It also involves ordering, payments, managing petty cash and completing financial reports.


Before joining Bupa, I worked in retail management and various HR positions for about 16 years. Following my nan getting dementia - which progressed very quickly - and spending a lot of time with her, I thought a career in care might be something I could be good at. When I turned 40, I bit the bullet and applied at Green Gates.


I love being able to help people - whether it be residents, staff or visitors. If I can do something that makes their life a little easier or puts a smile on their face, I can go home happy.


I am a confident, hard-working woman and pride myself on doing a good job. I have RA which I manage well and do not let hold me back. I have a partner called Dave and one son who is nearly 25. Outside of work, I like music, books and a good horror film!

I qualified as a nurse in 1998 after completing a diploma in general nursing and midwifery in India. I worked in a hospital in India until 2002 before moving to the UK. I have worked for Bupa since April 2005.


I love my job - every day is different at Green Gates and I enjoy building relationships with our residents and their families.


I have two children and live with my family in Oxford. Outside of work, I love keeping active - going to the gym and for walks. I also like going to India to see my family and friends at least once every year.
