This is an outstanding care home for those with dementia and related complex conditions. My husband was at The Headington Care Home with a rare, challenging, neurological disease for just over 4-years before he died in December 2020. The staff of Famous Lounge became a second family to him. The care
from the nursing staff and his carers were remarkable for its expertise, professionalism, calm and kindness, but the warm atmosphere extended to everyone - cleaners, kitchen staff, the laundry, maintenance staff, and activities co-ordinators alike. Though my husband's ability to communicate left him in the last two years of his life, we knew he had great confidence in the home and felt safe and secure. This made a huge difference to us as a family during the difficult lockdowns of 2020. We greatly appreciated the efforts of all the staff to enable communication with him during the lockdown, but it would have been very hard for us to bear without complete confidence in the home's great ecosystem of support.

I would like to thank all of the nurses and the interim manager who has just arrived. He has brought care in communication, energy and clarity to the home. My review is based on the time since he came and not before. The head nurse is amazing, and so is the doctor. My Dad is receiving end of life care.
Before the interim manager arrived, there was no communication or follow-up at all from the management, and it was so hard to understand what was happening. But he has been fantastic at communicating, and the head nurse and her team of nurses have made it possible for me to visit, and I am really grateful for all their kindness. I think that he has brought about a very much needed change in management, and I hope that now the wonderful nurses will be recognised and supported for all their hard work and care. I know that they greatly value the care and kindness of the doctor too.
Reply from Olivia Shields, Marketing Assistant at The Headington Care HomeThank you, Jane, for letting us know how we are doing at The Headington Care Home. I can’t recommend this nursing home highly enough. Each member of staff is so friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. The care given is excellent, beyond any standards I had set when my mum first arrived. I honestly can’t fault this nursing home in any way. Not only are they extremely supportive
of the residents, but they’re also so helpful and supportive towards the friends and family of the service users too. Always so welcoming, on the ball and willing to undertake any tasks. Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job with my mum.

I want to say a huge thank you to the manager and all the staff. Too many to mention. They have all been and continue to do a fantastic job.
Keeping all residents, staff and visitors safe during these unprecedented times. My first visit inside the home yesterday. I was so impressed.
I was PPE prepared
all courtesy of Headington Care Home. Vetted and temperature checked. Forms filled out. Then ready to go.
This home deserves a medal they have gone above and beyond duty.
I have always had praise for them since my Uncle was placed in the home just 8 months ago. The staff are all so kind and dedicated. They, like everyone else, have been faced with a huge challenge. They got it right.
Well done and a big thank you to you all.
Keep safe.

The personal care and understanding of my mother could not have been better. The staff were committed and loyal to us and her. They took the trouble to know her wants and needs. When she was in better health, the activities were poor and there has been a deterioration in the physical environment. The
garden is a mess, pictures are off the walls and the place is looking tired.

The staff on Famous Lane are the most amazing and caring. My Dad passed and they all showed him, and us as a family, all the respect, patience and kindness. I would like to thank everyone, from the nurses, care staff and, last but not least, the cleaner. Dad was not one of the easiest residents, but
we can't fault his care in any way. I will miss my visits to the home - not only have we lost our Dad, but also Famous Lane!!

I just cannot fault the service received for my husband during his last 2 1/2 years at Headington Care Home. He was asked to leave his previous care home due to his challenging behaviour and was at 'end of life' when he entered Headington. He was looked after so well, he enjoyed life so much more and
used to smile when I visited him. Very rewarding. The staff were unbelievably patient and kind, always ringing me with updates on my husband's health.

The staff at Headington Care Home were just excellent and very caring while my Dad was a resident there. During his last 10 days, when he was really poorly, the staff could not have done any more for him. They made sure his last days were comfortable right until the very end. This was an enormous comfort
to his family and we can’t thank you enough.

The management works very closely with the nursing and care support staff and have an excellent understanding of the residents in their care, who are treated as individuals and respected for their histories and their life experiences.
A commendable effort is made to establish a real and meaningful
rapport between staff and residents which enables a genuine feeling of community, continuity, care and support to be fostered in Headington Care Home which engenders an atmosphere of calm, safety and genuine understanding and empathy.
All staff, from housekeeping and kitchen staff through to care support, nursing and management, work together as an extraordinary team to produce a highly constructive environment for the best in dementia care.
Brilliant.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.265)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.265) out of 10 for The Headington Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.365 for The Headington Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (57 Goods x 4) + (25 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 197 Ratings = 4.365
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Headington Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager at The Headington Care Home Joined: 2021

Litiana has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for over 10 years and joined The Headington Care Home as Home Manager in 2021. She has always had a passion for caring for others and sought a career in care to be a helping hand and try to make a difference in the lives of others. Prior to becoming a Home Manager, Litiana has previous experience working as a Care Assistant and Home Trainer.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life. I am lucky to work alongside a supportive and hard-working team who all share the same values and care about our residents.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
I am very sociable and enjoy meeting and being around people. I am also a big animal lover, so enjoy looking after them as well as spending time cooking, reading and dancing.

Please tell us about your work experience…
I have worked in the Health and Social Care industry since moving to the UK over 10 years ago. I started my career working as a Care Assistant before becoming a Senior Care Assistant, Home Trainer, Team Leader, Deputy Manager and eventually Home Manager this year.

Before moving to the UK, I worked on various government projects, most of which were community based and focused on alleviating poverty in rural areas and caring for vulnerable people in the community. The people I met and the skills I learned whilst working in these communities inspired me to start a career in Social Care.

I completed my Management and Leadership qualification for Health and Social Care in 2017 and completed 18 months of Development and Leadership training.
