Overlooking the stunning farmland of the Chiltern Hills, this impeccably landscaped former doctor's house is situated a short distance from the centre of Chinnor. The home offers nursing, respite, and palliative care.

The majority of bedrooms are en-suite, set across two floors which foster a truly homely atmosphere. With each room tastefully decorated and the grounds maintained to the highest standards, Hempton Field has as much personality as its residents - you can be proud to call it home.

The home has two communal lounges and a well-appointed dining room, meaning peace and quiet is never far away. The house is situated on half an acre of grounds, where you can relax in the gorgeous sheltered courtyard, surrounded by flower beds and a pond. The gazebo area has views of the Chiltern Hills and is perfect for outdoor socialising.

Chefs prepare meals on-site, offering residents a daily menu with tasty, nutritious choices. Meals can be taken in the dining room or in residents' own bedrooms as preferred. Special diets will be catered for.

Activities staff oversee a busy schedule of events. Residents are encouraged to participate and to help plan these events, to ensure there is something for everyone. Participation is entirely optional, however. There are daily activities in the home, as well as frequent excursions outside it and big celebrations throughout the year.

Hempton is a bright and extremely friendly home.

I have visited a number of homes in the past and this home is light, fresh and appears to be well run.

Mum made the very difficult decision to move into full-time care, but it was made easier for her because she felt well looked after and settled.

It

is a pleasure to visit her at Hempton.

I found the home and staff were excellent with all aspects of care. Also, I found that my mother in law was treated very well with dignity during the past few days after returning to the home from the hospital. The staff were also very compassionate and caring to all members of the family.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My mother-in-law was a resident at this home from early 2015 to early 2016 and initially seemed happy. However, there was a marked decline in the standard of care which led to her family repeatedly having to chase staff in order that various issues were addressed. Meals were arriving cold, the quantity
and quality of food has become notably poorer since the catering service was outsourced to a food service. Staff made significant errors on more than one occasion and often had to be reminded to perform what should have been basic tasks. On each occasion these shortfalls were reported to the manager and whilst some issues may have seemed minor in isolation a worrying pattern emerged as despite being reported to the Manager they continued to remain unresolved. Overall it was felt that the poor management of the home along with the standard and cost of care were unacceptable and my mother-in-law decided to move elsewhere.
Reply from Bethany Gibbons, Marketing assistant at Barchester Hempton Field Care HomeWe welcome all comments that will help us improve our services and we take them seriously. We are sorry that in this instance NP was not happy with some aspects of the care provided to his mother in law. We have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new spring and summer menu offering a choice of appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals. We seek regular feedback from residents about the choices of meals that are served and this helps us to plan our menus. If a resident does not like the dish they have ordered we will always try to provide an alternative that is more to their liking. Mealtimes at Hempton Fields are an enjoyable, social event. During a recent visit from our regulator where mealtimes were observed, it was commented that ‘ Food was served hot from the kitchen and looked ‘home cooked’, wholesome and appetising. The meal was a friendly and communal experience’.

Residents are encouraged to eat with additional portions available. Where residents require support to eat their meals, staff are caring, patient and discrete. Our team will assist people with their menu choices. We ask what residents want to eat in the morning and check again at mealtimes in case they have changed their mind. Where residents require special diets, for example, pureed or fortified meals, these were provided.

The most recent CQC report, dated March 2016, rates the home as good and includes numerous positive comments from residents and their relatives about the standard of care, quality of staff and management who have not changed. These included that the management team conducted regular audits to monitor the quality of service and learning from them to make improvements.

If there is anything you would like to further discuss, please do not hesitate to contact customercare@brighterkind.com or pop into the home anytime.”

Very good - people polite, helpful. It's not like some places where you go and it's not welcoming - everyone takes time to get to know you. Everyone is friendly, cheerful and makes you feel at home. I come every day to visit my partner and the care here is marvellous, they look after me as much as they
do my partner!

Our mother was a resident at Hempton Field for just over a year. She had settled well and was fairly happy.
Unfortunately, a recent incident involving her personal security was, in our opinion poorly handled by management. After careful consideration she asked her family to find her another nursing
home as she felt anxious and vulnerable.

Our dear friend sadly died on the 8th of February 2016. The end of life care was excellent, and has made his death a nice memory, he died peacefully with us with him to the very last. We feel his care was okay, but the price paid we expected a little more. I think the food could have been more tempting
for him, particularly in the last two months. We were both very saddened that no one attended our friends funeral from the care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.733)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.733) out of 10 for Barchester Hempton Field Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.733 for Barchester Hempton Field Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 311 Ratings = 4.733
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Hempton Field Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
