Huntercombe Hall Nursing and Care Home is an elegant Victorian Manor House, providing residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 42 elderly residents, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and long-term care for individuals or couples.

Located over two floors, each ensuite room has a charming, welcoming atmosphere and an accessible lift links the ground and first floor. The home is a stunning Victorian property that has been sympathetically converted to a care home of distinction, stooped in history and provenance.

The stunning grounds surrounding Huntercombe Hall provide a haven of wildlife and are an idyllic location for residents to relax. The home sits within extensive beautifully landscaped gardens with level lawns, ideal for residents and visitors to enjoy when the weather permits. The home is located in the beautiful village of Nuffield, close to the picturesque towns of Nettlebed, Wallingford and a 15 minute drive from Henley on Thames. Just off the A4130, Huntercombe is well located for shops, facilities and amenities whilst enjoying views over rural countryside and woodland.

Staff at the home are as compassionate as they are experienced, and specialist training allows them to offer the highest standards of care to all residents, including those living with dementia. They work hard to establish an environment where residents feel comfortable, and plan activities to help keep them engaged and enjoying each day.

Lovely room, very comfortable with a great view of countryside. Carers very friendly and good almost all the time. Dining with other residents a bit regimented for my liking, but very happy to eat in the conservatory or in my room. Most activities not to my taste, but I would like to go out on trips
when available.
Food - 33% good, 33% ok, and 33% not very good, but staff & cook are trying to improve this for me.

We are so pleased with the care our grandmother receives at Huntercombe. There is always a wide variety of activities and entertainment to keep her engaged! Everything from music sessions and crafts to quizzes and themed events. She is always telling us how much fun she is having, and it's clear the
staff put a lot of effort into making life enjoyable for the residents. Knowing she is happy, active (specially on Wednesdays with fitness instructor), and well cared for means the world to us!

My mother became a resident in April 2025. She is settling in very well. The home is very peaceful and the setting and environment very good. Care has been excellent and the staff are all wonderful. My mother is very happy with the food and likes her (small) room, which was recently re-furbished. The
cleanliness is first class. The home is very well run and the staff cannot do enough for the residents. Under new ownership the home continues to improve.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, On behalf of the team at Huntercombe Hall Care HomeThank you for sharing such a positive and detailed review of Huntercombe Hall. I attended an informal talk on dementia, which was organised by the care home where my wife is a resident. The talk was chaired by the care home dementia champion, who was very informative on the subject, giving the outlines of types of dementia, symptoms and overview of what the type of dementia is
like for the sufferer. The talk was very informative whilst not being over technical and there was plenty of opportunities to ask questions on my wife's condition and got the answers in plain English. refreshments were provided and the atmosphere was informal but structured. In all the talk lasted two hours and I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a friend or relative who suffers from dementia.
Reply from Catia Pereira, Home Manager at Huntercombe Hall Care HomeMany thanks for your review and your feedback on our dementia care session, we are pleased you found it informative and we could help to answer your questions, your feedback has been passed on to the team and our dementia champion who will appreciate it. We are currently looking at plans for another session based on the feedback we have received.

The facility is clean, comfortable, and bright, with a great range of activities to keep her engaged. The
food is fantastic, with a good variety, and they cater to her dietary needs with great attention. I also appreciate the regular communication with me and the genuine interest they show in her well-being. I feel reassured knowing she's in such good hands.

Lovely care home. Staff are very caring to residents and myself. My mum has late stage dementia, so her needs are great. I feel that she is looked after like one of the family. Staff tell me about problems she has, so I feel informed. My father recently died and they have been so kind to me and I really

My dad spent 3 weeks in Huntercombe as emergency respite care, and it was the most awful experience ever. The home looks very grand from the outside and the website, but in reality, the second floor where dementia patients are is old and tired looking. There is a high usage of agency staff and often
no member of senior management on-site at the weekend. Dad had his first fall within days of arriving, although not hurt badly, it was not disclosed initially. Dad got a urine infection and oral thrush whilst there, he lost 8kg in weight, and the ability to talk, feed himself or walk until he was hospitalised - please note, at the family's request not by Huntercombe staff/management. After 1 week in hospital on an IV drip and feeding tube, he made a full recovery back to how he was before his respite care. It was not just his dementia decline as we were told. Read into this what you wish, but we will always regret Dad going into Huntercombe Hall.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Huntercombe Hall Care HomeWe pride ourselves on the resident experience and we are very sorry that you were unhappy with your father's care. I have nothing but praise for the staff of Huntercombe Hall. The carers are compassionate and friendly and furnish me with photos and updates on my sister's care, essential as I live abroad and could feel isolated. They go above and beyond to make her life as interesting and normal as possible and,
if the resident is able, outings are organised for birthdays and when the weather is sunny. Thank you all so much for giving me peace of mind!

My father was a resident at Huntercombe for about 5 years following diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. Overall his treatment was excellent, although there were some periods when we needed to monitor his care closely.
The Huntercombe staff were consistently excellent, and particularly so during the Covid
pandemic when they had to juggle extremely trying conditions and restrictions. Their care for my father in his final weeks was beyond excellent. I am grateful that his end-of-life care was so professional and empathetic.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.729)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.729) out of 10 for Huntercombe Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Huntercombe Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (398 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 490 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Huntercombe Hall Care Home is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
