Located in a beautiful 1922 Cotswold stone manor house, Merryfield House Nursing Home is set in tranquil gardens on the outskirts of Witney market town. Formerly the home of a ‘Witney Blanket’ family, it offers residential and nursing care for up to 24 people.

The main house boasts an impressive entrance hall with a sweeping staircase to public rooms, while a purpose-built ground floor area provides single en-suite bedrooms with French windows. With an inglenook fireplace, the main lounge area is an ideal space for residents to relax and socialise in while enjoying views of the garden.

Rated overall 'Good' by CQC in December 2017 and 'Outstanding' in the Responsive category, Merryfield’s staff are all trained to a high standard, holding NVQ levels two, three or four in Care and Management, as well as customer care and training in hospitality, which gives residents that little bit extra as they and their families receive care at Merryfield.

The home's chef uses fresh local produce to provide a wonderful choice of meals on a daily basis. Residents may choose where they take their meals, be it in the privacy of their own room or together with other residents (and often friends and relatives) in the dining room.

All bedrooms are fully furnished and come equipped with an electric bed, SMART television, call bell. Telephone and Sky TV facility available on request. The home has fibre Wi-Fi available for all residents and a dedicated guest network throughout. iPad tablets, FaceTime, Zoom and Skype access enable regular communication between residents and their relatives. The home cinema provides access to Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The home has exceptional activities coordinators who arrange a varied programme of events and outings with its bespoke minibus, including visits to local stately homes, animal therapy, musical entertainment, yoga, virtual reality headsets, and gardening.

Merryfield are an exemplary caregiving home from home. They have cared for and protected my parents through the COVID crisis. When Dad arrived to join Mum he wasn't given long but the medical diagnosis and care has really helped them both. Mum has a cramped hand due to her dementia and they made her
a special paintbrush and now she loves painting. Outstanding!

Both my parents have been residents at Merryfield for over a year and I couldn't have asked for a nicer home for my parents to stay in. Hygiene is immaculate, food is delicious and staff are so friendly and make you so welcome. What more could you wish for? I would highly recommend the home to anyone,
as we looked in the area and just fell in love with Merryfield. This has made a very hard decision to make very reassuring. Thank you!

Merryfield is one of the few providers of care for the elder elderly. I visited the team 2 years before I placed my mother in care. There are daily activities, there is also a lot of staff on hand to help out. My mother is 101 and the staff have put themselves out to look after her. The home is in a
very pleasant location with a lovely garden. Abides by strict COVID guidelines.

My father was a resident at Merryfield. He was very well looked after and very happy there. The home exceeded in everything. I have remained a friend of the home and see and hear how well they have been doing during this difficult time. I do recommend this home to anyone looking for a nursing home.

We are so pleased and reassured to see Mum being so well cared for. She is comfortable and looks well and content.
Staff have welcomed us and although we are not resident in the UK we feel Mum is safe and well cared for, all her needs are met.
Merryfield is exceptional, friendly and the patients are
all that matters.

The first impression with the staff is excellent. Everyone is friendly and certainly has made my mother very welcome and made the transition from home life to a care home as easy as possible. It has been a huge relief to also see the excellent nursing care that is provided, as her needs are getting
worse. The standard of cleanliness is also excellent, as is the food. The choices of food are very well catered for. Everyone, whether its residents or visitors are treated with care and respect.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.993)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.993) out of 10 for Merryfield House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.993 for Merryfield House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 300 Ratings = 4.993
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merryfield House Nursing Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
