Located in a beautiful 1922 Cotswold stone manor house, Merryfield House Nursing Home is set in tranquil gardens on the outskirts of Witney market town. Formerly the home of a ‘Witney Blanket’ family, it offers residential and nursing care for up to 24 people.

The main house boasts an impressive entrance hall with a sweeping staircase to public rooms, while a purpose-built ground floor area provides single en-suite bedrooms with French windows. With an inglenook fireplace, the main lounge area is an ideal space for residents to relax and socialise in while enjoying views of the garden.

Rated overall 'Good' by CQC in December 2017 and 'Outstanding' in the Responsive category, Merryfield’s staff are all trained to a high standard, holding NVQ levels two, three or four in Care and Management, as well as customer care and training in hospitality, which gives residents that little bit extra as they and their families receive care at Merryfield.

The home's chef uses fresh local produce to provide a wonderful choice of meals on a daily basis. Residents may choose where they take their meals, be it in the privacy of their own room or together with other residents (and often friends and relatives) in the dining room.

All bedrooms are fully furnished and come equipped with an electric bed, SMART television, call bell. Telephone and Sky TV facility available on request. The home has fibre Wi-Fi available for all residents and a dedicated guest network throughout. iPad tablets, FaceTime, Zoom and Skype access enable regular communication between residents and their relatives. The home cinema provides access to Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The home has exceptional activities coordinators who arrange a varied programme of events and outings with its bespoke minibus, including visits to local stately homes, animal therapy, musical entertainment, yoga, virtual reality headsets, and gardening.

Merryfield is a lovely home. It's staff to resident ratio is higher than any other care establishment I have come across, including large group luxury villages.
The management are genuinely kind and have all worked as carers themselves in the past so they know exactly what quality care looks like.
I
cannot recommend Merryfield highly enough.

Merryfield is a small homely care home with friendly experienced carers, highly trained nurses and a wonderful manager. Everyone in the home will go the 'extra mile' to ensure the resident's comfort and wellbeing. The food is nice, fresh and homemade and the room's cosy. A very welcoming environment.

Merryfield has provided my nan with all care and attention she has needed. My nan has improved greatly in her mobility and mood since being here and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. For her birthday she has been able to feel extra special and the staff don't feel like anything is too much. So
very happy she is finally happy. Thank you.

I had a very pleasant experience volunteering at Merryfield House Nursing Home. The carers are very welcoming and polite and have been very kind to me as well as everyone else at the care home. All of the residents are also very kind as well and seem to enjoy themselves, especially when I see them during
the activities.

When faced with the huge worry of making decisions about mum's respite care, the manager and the team ensured that mum was cared for, listened to and safe. As family members making decisions, the staff kept us informed, reassured us and took a real interest in our situation. Many thanks at a very difficult
time.

Since coming to this home we have been nothing but pleased with the care they've shown my father. They look after him so well, he's always clean, shaven, dressed well and has freshly cut nails. Their communication is brilliant, we're always kept updated. The staff run wonderful activities and always
make us feel so very welcome. We couldn't be happier.

The staff and management at Merryfield house, I have found to be very caring, pleasant and always very helpful and informative. My mother has to go for a hospital appointment every week, this they organise which takes the strain from me taking time off work. They have been fantastic to mum since she
has been there, settling in was quite distressing for my mother, but they were amazing and I would recommend Merryfield House to everyone.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.993)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.993) out of 10 for Merryfield House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.993 for Merryfield House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (298 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 300 Ratings = 4.993
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merryfield House Nursing Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
