Review from John S (Nephew of Resident) published on 25 January 2016 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My aunt was resident in Mill House for three and a half years, until her death on 13 January 2016. She reached the right old age of 92 years. When she entered the home she was not in a good state of health at all. She had been unable to care for herself properly for a very long time and had been in denial regarding the need for more help. The Manager all her staff have been wonderful. They nursed her back to an acceptable state of health, sadly she was never going to return to the person we all knew and loved. All the staff showed such care and compassion along with a high degree of patience, as my aunt was not always the easiest of people to look after. When her time finally came, we were able to be with her. The staff were very caring and this resulted in my aunt being able to die with dignity, something she would probably not have been able to do, if she had been in her own home. If she had not agreed to enter the home in 2012 she would have died in 2012. She was very ill.
Although my aunt would not join in any of the communal activities, this was not for the want of trying by the staff. They did try on numerous occasions. She did enjoy having her hair done.
For someone who is in the same situation as my aunt, we would have no hesitation to recommend Mill House to anyone.

We cannot thank the Manager and all her staff enough.

Nicki Bramble
Nicki BrambleJob Title:Home Manager

Nicki started working in Health and Social Care as a qualified Nurse in 1986. She worked on the Ophthalmology ward, ENT and ran outpatient clinics at St Georges Hospital in London. When Nicki moved to Oxfordshire, she worked as an agency nurse and discovered how much she enjoyed working in Nursing Homes. When she isn’t working, Nicki enjoys long country walks with her dogs, competitive cycling and climbing mountains such as Snowdon!

Words of encouragement from Nicki for someone looking for the right home would be: “It’s not the place, it’s the people that make a home. It has to feel warm, welcoming and comfortable.”
