Together with attractive gardens and a conservatory, Mill House has its own library, offering residents a wide range of personal choice in terms of how they spend their days.

Mum was moved to Mill House in June after suffering a stroke. She had Alzheimer's disease. We all immediately felt at home and were welcomed by the wonderful staff of all levels. They constantly encouraged Mum to join the other residents and nothing seemed too much trouble. Unfortunately Mum passed
away in December but thanks to the care and thoughtfulness of Mill House staff, her passing was very comfortable and dignified. I would thoroughly recommend this lovely home which will become even better with the Manager at the helm!

My mother was transferred from a local care home after a stroke which left her with very complex needs.
She was expertly cared for and, just as importantly cherished by the wonderful staff.
Mum sadly passed in December, her passing was comfortable and dignified with her immediate family by her side.
The staff took great care of us during this difficult time.
I can't recommend this home enough. the surroundings are lovely as is the food and the staff are dedicated. They go above and beyond to ensure our loved ones have the best possible care.

My mother was a resident at Mill House for about 8 years until she passed away in November 2018. During these years the staff have done their best to provide good care. I have felt that staffing levels have not always been sufficient for residents to have as much attention/swift answers to call buttons,
as they would like. This has improved recently and the activities for residents are, now, very good and more consistent than in previous years. I have, on the whole, been happy with the care given to my mother by the hard-working staff with some being especially kind and supportive to us relatives as she became frail. I have not had much contact with management which changed recently.
Reply from Michael Daglish, Home Manager at Mill House Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home, we are pleased to hear that you think the team have been hard-working, kind and supportive whilst caring for your mother. At Mill House, we strive to provide a high standard of care and since being under new management, have recently been able to improve our home even more. We are fully staffed in all areas, and our Magic Moments Club offers a range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. If you’d like to discuss anything further, please feel free to pop in and see anytime.

My wife came out of the hospital after Christmas and Mill House Nursing Home could not have been more welcoming and helpful. They very kindly did an assessment on Christmas Eve and she moved in on the day after Boxing Day. The manager, administrative staff, nurses and carers have all done everything
they could to welcome us, to look after us and help us feel at home. We are very grateful.

From the moment mum was taken through the door at Mill House the staff were wonderful, friendly and constant. I was very hesitant with mum going in and had my fears but they were all dispelled within 24 hrs. I cannot express my gratitude enough for making mums last days memorable and comfortable...thank
you, you're all amazing.

I visit my friend and have found the staff to be very caring and cheerful, the decor of the home is bright, cheerful and upbeat.
I previously brought my friend to this home when they had an open event, garden party, concert and Xmas Fayre and we were always made welcome.
So I was pleased when I learnt
her family had chosen the Mill House for her care.

The care is amazing, more than we ever hoped.
Kind, caring, friendly, a wonderfully happy atmosphere prevails through the entire complex - thank you!
Everyone is treated as family and this is most definitely "a home" and not an institution.

My mum spent the last three months of her life in Mill House after being diagnosed with cancer. Although she was very nervous about the move all the staff made her feel welcome and put her at ease. Throughout the time my mum was at Mill House she was treated with a high level of care and kindness, respect
and dignity on a daily basis. During the last two weeks of my mum's life I spent most of my time with her and other family members were frequently with her also. The staff could not do enough to support us and make us feel welcome. I am so pleased that I chose Mill House for my mum's end of life care and thank all who work there.

I came to Mill House Care Home from Yorkshire to be with my Mum and Grandma. From the start, I was extremely impressed by the service from the carers and nurses; nothing was too much trouble. Everyone showed compassion, love and genuine generosity. They went the extra mile with everyone who came
into the room. Everyone's job was done efficiently but with respect and sensitivity. I felt my Grandma was in good hands and everyone took their job seriously and put so much effort into their role. Thank you so much!!!

My mother was in Mill House for the last five weeks of her life. I must say I was impressed and pleased for her to receive the dignified care and attention she got in the home. The staff were polite, caring, attentive and accommodating. I don't think she could have been in a better place for her last
days.

Mill House took my dad in at short notice when my mum became to ill to care for him. He had advanced Parkinsons and needed complete care. All the staff in Mill House were amazing, they took the time to get to know dad even though he couldn't speak or do anything for himself and showed real care and
compassion in all their dealings with him. They also supported the whole family and especially my mum and were so sensitive and helpful when dad died. Food was unusually good for a care home environment. Happy to recommend Mill House to anyone.

Mum was admitted in somewhat of an emergency. It was fitting as my father had also been a resident for 2 months last year. I can't say enough about the staff. Extremely at tentative, respectful and genuine. I feel these are genuine caring people. We were offered a spare bed onsite during the final stages
to ensure we were there. The facilities and in particular my mum's room were very pleasant and the food was more than adequate. The whole place felt like home, and whilst my mothers stay was relatively short, she was very happy there.

My aunt was resident in Mill House for three and a half years, until her death on 13 January 2016. She reached the right old age of 92 years. When she entered the home she was not in a good state of health at all. She had been unable to care for herself properly for a very long time and had been in
denial regarding the need for more help. The Manager all her staff have been wonderful. They nursed her back to an acceptable state of health, sadly she was never going to return to the person we all knew and loved. All the staff showed such care and compassion along with a high degree of patience, as my aunt was not always the easiest of people to look after. When her time finally came, we were able to be with her. The staff were very caring and this resulted in my aunt being able to die with dignity, something she would probably not have been able to do, if she had been in her own home. If she had not agreed to enter the home in 2012 she would have died in 2012. She was very ill.
Although my aunt would not join in any of the communal activities, this was not for the want of trying by the staff. They did try on numerous occasions. She did enjoy having her hair done.
For someone who is in the same situation as my aunt, we would have no hesitation to recommend Mill House to anyone.
We cannot thank the Manager and all her staff enough.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.909)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.909) out of 10 for Mill House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.909 for Mill House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (212 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 232 Ratings = 4.909
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill House Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
