Overall Experience

We have had a really bad experience with Kings Lodge and absolutely do not recommend this care home. Our mother, who has frontotemporal dementia, was recently there for five weeks. We were shocked at how poorly equipped the home was to deal with our mum. We feel they misled us/social services about their ability to care for her. They did not have the right hoist or equipment so she was confined to her room most of the time. We also found it really hard to see or speak to mum as they only have one person responsible for organising visits/activities/well-being. They were very slow in following up on requests to support her clinical needs. She seemed to really decline there. It was very hard to get hold of the staff, and we struggled to get updates or meaningful conversations about how mum was. We raised our concerns with the home, social services and CQC. We found the home’s response disappointing as they did not act on our concerns but just tried to defend themselves.

Reply from Eva Robinson, Registered Manager at Kings Lodge Care Centre

Firstly, we would like to say how sorry we are that this is how you feel your experience of the service has been. Mum was a well-liked member KLCC community. We absolutely recognise that the government restrictions on isolation following admission and visiting have and continue to be a challenge to...

King’s Lodge Care Centre staff have demonstrated kind and professional care for my mother-in-law, who suffers from vascular dementia. They previously also looked after my father-in-law until his death. I have no doubt at times their behaviour could be challenging, but this has never been reflected in the professional and caring treatment they have and she continues to receive. Despite the challenges presented by COVID 19 the staff, one member in particular, have facilitated valuable and meaningful communication between my wife and her mother. I have also engaged regularly with the manager and her colleagues and always found them courteous, helpful and supportive.

My mother has been a resident at Kings Lodge since October 2020.
I have found the staff and management to be very helpful, caring and friendly, and my Mum who suffers from Dementia has settled in very well.
From my initial conversation with the manager, I felt it was exactly the right place for her, nothing is too much trouble and in these demanding times.
I have been to able to visit her weekly and phone her at any time.

Kings Lodge is everything I could have hoped for in a care home.

We moved here from another home, 4 months ago. The positive effect on my husband (dementia sufferer), of being at Kings Lodge, is amazing.
The welcome is warm and friendly, and everything is centred around the residents. The staff are happy and enjoy looking after the residents, and nothing is too much trouble.
The food is good and varied. The surroundings are clean, and the rooms are well-appointed.

I feel that my husband is now receiving the care he deserves and needs, and he is so much happier here. All thanks to a great manager who has built a brilliant team around her. I can't thank them all enough for the difference they have made to our lives.

All staff at Kings Lodge are unfailingly polite and caring. My mother-in-law always looks tidy and has blossomed since moving here in March 2018. She is happy and settled and the staff all appear to know her well. The introduction of an Italian/English picture guide by the care home is a fabulous idea as my mother-in-law is now more responsive if spoken to in her native language. We are always made welcome when we visit.

Staff are friendly, caring and approachable. Residents are treated as individuals and with respect. Concerns are taken note of and actioned appropriately. As Reception is not staffed all the time, there could be some issues with certain residents' safety and can cause difficulty for occasional/new visitors at weekends. However, the positive aspects far outweigh any problems. Overall there is a very good ambience.

Kings Lodge Care Centre is a brilliant care home. My mother has been there since January, she has dementia and sometimes displays challenging behaviour. All of the staff/carers show such calmness, patience an are always smiling, happy and courteous. They treat mum with great respect and dignity too. I cannot thank the team enough for all that they do.

This is a lovely home that over the last year has looked after my in-laws excellently. The staff are very caring and nothing is too much trouble. We as a whole family, have nothing but praise for all the hard work that everyone at Kings Lodge put into looking after all the residents.

King's Lodge was recommended to me by a friend who has been visiting there for some time. My Husband has been there as a resident since October 2017 and I am extremely happy as he is being so well cared for. It gives me peace of mind.

My Mother has been a resident for 5 years. The manager and her team are the best you have ever put in place. So caring and compassionate. I really appreciate it through all my heartache. Seeing a loved one in such a state at times is truly awful. Thank you so much to all the team.

My mother has been at Kings Lodge for 18 months.
During that time I have seen the services and care develop to a very high standard.
There is a stable team who genuinely know and understand the residents.
The environment is very good, with many improvements made under the current manager.
The rooms are pleasant in design.

The catering and laundry staff are fabulous - I feel 'at home' when I visit my mother and never worry about her care.

Kings Lodge is a shining example of how care can be provided for the elderly and frail. My mum spent her last ten days there. From when she crossed the threshold to her passing away she was treated with compassion and respect.

She said she felt safe and had no worries there. All staff were kind, calm, professional and friendly. They worked as a team, communicated very well among themselves and with us and did everything in their power to make her time there a really good experience. Their care and support for me was fantastic too. We could not have wished for more.

We cannot commend highly enough the level of care and compassion shown to Mum whilst she was at Kings Lodge. The Manager and her whole team are fantastic, they cared for Mum with the greatest kindness, patience and consideration which they also extended to her family. No question was too minor to answer, no request too difficult and their guidance, when asked for, was so much appreciated. Kings Lodge is what we rarely hear about, a wonderful care home and deserves all accolades and tributes.
