I have found the staff, including the manager, to be kind and helpful at all times.
This disease my friend has is completely unknown to me and I have no idea how to cope with it. The staff seem to be able to answer any questions I have and reassure me when I am worried.

The staff are all absolutely lovely and take great care of my mother. This has been a very difficult year for everyone, and whilst before Covid, I would visit almost daily, the challenge of not being able to see my dad has been hard on us all. The home could have done more by way of communication. The
only way to speak to my father, who is deaf and has dementia was to phone him, he could not hear me, and the process was confusing for him. Some investment in Zoom would help.

Claydon House provides an excellent level of specialist care and our relative receives the appropriate level of focus and attention. Overall, the standard of care provided is constantly high. Communication over the past fourteen months should have been made easier with the technology that is now available
i.e. a large screen for Zoom meetings as opposed to an iPhone or iPad, and headphones for those with hearing impairment.

My dad has been living at Claydon House for almost 8 years. Pre-Covid 19 restrictions I was always visiting at different times of the day, weekends and bank holidays. I experienced staff providing good care to residents and they provide a range of social and stimulating activities. Staff have been kind,
understanding and professional towards my dad and myself. They have learnt how to manage his care needs and know him as an individual. I have always been able to contact my dad. I can speak to all members of staff and know that my concerns or queries will be addressed or issues taken on board. This attitude is extremely important as it provides reassurance and promotes trust that my dad is being cared for at Claydon House.

My grandmother went into Claydon House some years ago as she particularly wanted to be in the area and at the time it was the best of the 3 homes there. Since then it has gone steadily downhill. It is in need of a full refurbishment. The staff turnover is constant. The conservatory, which was the nicest
part, is scruffy. The pictures are bad. The furniture was moved and a pool table put there? The food was poor - always lukewarm, no condiments on the tray. Claydon House seems to look after the dementia residents, but the 'normal' elderly ones not so much. They are not children or idiots - treat them as such!

Obviously, 2020/2021 have been very difficult because of Covid 19. I have not visited the home in this period so my assessments are based on telephone conversations with the staff and previous visits.
I have always found the staff efficient, well qualified and caring. The accommodation and meals are
very good.

My father became a resident at Claydon House initially for respite care due to Alzheimer's, however, he became a long-stay resident soon after. Even though he was only there for a short time, due to being transferred to hospital, the care he received at Claydon was impeccable. All the staff, including
the nurses, care team, kitchen workers, activity planner, the management and the office staff, were kind, supportive and extremely helpful to me and my family during a very difficult time, especially during these extraordinary times we find ourselves.

Up and above the performance of the routine services and functions of a care home. This home has always treated my mother as an individual with great and genuine respect and kindness. It is a huge comfort knowing that she is cared for by this home, and its excellent staff and management, particularly
through this difficult time when visits are not possible.

During the most challenging of circumstances, the home has worked so hard to protect residents and to provide them with good social activities. Visits have been enabled where possible. The care staff are very kind. There has been a smooth transition from one long term manager to a new one, and communication
from him is good.

Although my Uncle was only at Claydon House for a short time, during his stay, he was cared for with compassion and professionalism. I found the Management to be very experienced and dedicated to their residents and staff alike. During such difficult and changing circumstances, the carers gave my Uncle
first-class treatment and although I was unable to visit during the virus restriction rules, I was always able to speak regularly to staff, who clearly wished to get to know him better. My Uncle couldn't have been placed in more caring hands and I would not hesitate in giving my highest recommendation to friends and neighbours. A huge thank you to all those who cared for my lovely Uncle.

1. Lack of communication with GP in arranging syringe driver, leading to a 4 day delay.
2. Nurses lacking in confidence and linguistic competence.
3. Very disappointed by delay in returning deposit and overpayment. It took 3 weeks to send invoice and after 6 weeks, still no money returned. In contrast
to us paying the money the day that dad went in.

Mum is happy and comfortable. She especially likes activities involving children and music. Only concern is the lack of communication. Hard to find the senior staff to talk to and then messages do not get passed on. Staff need to consult her diary in which I leave messages daily.

Following a hip replacement, I cam to Claydon House for 2 week's recuperation.
I had expected an ensuite room but didn't get one.

By the end of 2 weeks, I was able to walk quite well and was happy to return home.

The care I had received had been quite satisfactory.

My mum had Alzheimer's and she spent the last few weeks of her life at Claydon House. We couldn't have asked for anywhere better. The home has a very calming atmosphere, bright and airy, and the manager and her team were all lovely. The carers were really attentive and did everything they could to
make sure my mum was comfortable. Thank you so much.

I witnessed friendly and compassionate care from the staff at Claydon House. Clearly, the building was not purpose-built for the task and is looking tired inside. Mother and many of her visitors found the food not up to par, but our overwhelming impression left by Claydon House was the kindness and
professionalism of the excellent staff.
Reply from Karen Grainger, Home Manager at Claydon HouseThank you for taking the time to review Claydon House. We take great pride in ensuring we deliver safe, high-quality care and facilities.
We are pleased to hear that you witnessed friendly and compassionate staff, and you thought the staff were excellent. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding choices and quality produce when creating a healthy and varied menu, meeting the needs of every resident’s individual dietary requirements. To ensure we continually meet these standards our Chef is involved in a fortnightly forum to discuss what our residents may like to see on the menu in the future, we have received some very good ideas which Chef is now implementing.
We always welcome the opportunity to review and improve upon what we offer and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.828)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.828) out of 10 for Claydon House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.828 for Claydon House is calculated as follows: ( (204 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 239 Ratings = 4.828
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Claydon House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
