Dudwell St Mary is a stunning home based on the site of a former convent, with historic character and beautiful features and is tastefully decorated.

They provide first-class care for dementia in the Memory Lane community along with nursing and residential care in appropriate communities in the beautiful home. Respite breaks are also available in the home with both the needs of residents and their loved ones being well catered for.

This team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person, which includes a personalised lifestyle plan offered through meaningful activity and one-to-one time.

A huge thank you to all the staff at the Dudwell who have helped my 98 year old mother adjust to a new life -following the very recent death of my father and a move South. We love the atmosphere, all the staff are so friendly and approachable. It is so good to know she is in the safe hands of such

Dudwell St Mary's is extremely welcoming and the nursing care from my experience is excellent. The staff are very empathetic towards the person they are caring for whilst the cleanliness and general appearance is very good. Admin is efficient. My Mum who is a pretty straight talker always praises the staff, the views and her room. And she is definitely eating well. The staff here really seem to care and the ethos from management downwards seems to be to consider the best interests of the resident at every decision point. It's very reassuring
to know that Mum is being properly looked after.

I visited my grandad on 30th may at Dudwell, he was in the ground floor lounge area with other residents. They had a disco party which looked really fun and all the residents were enjoying it, they all had on funky coloured glasses and other props. The DJ was really good and entertaining with the different
types of music playing and also the staff that were present enjoyed themselves. My grandad was really enjoying himself and I hope they do another disco soon as it was so good to see everyone having fun.

My wife and I (and our lovely dog) visited the care home on the open day to visit two neighbours. We were immediately impressed by the staff and the feeling of care the were giving. We are both in our middle 80's, still fit and healthy but realise we may both need a care home in the near future. Dudwell
St Mary is definitely where we would choose as we live in the area.

My mum went into respite just before Christmas and decided very quickly that she would be happy to become a full-time resident. The staff are superb with Mum, they give her the respect and care she deserves and they anticipate her needs rather than just reacting. I had been responsible for all of Mum's
care needs and now I can enjoy being a daughter, still assisting Mum as I and she would like me to but I know that Mum is safe and happy whether I'm there or not. Cannot recommend this home enough. Primary needs are met to a very high standard and more than that, the home lives up to the company motto of celebrating life.

My brother, who was a resident of Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care Home from June 2021 and had severe Alzheimer's, recently passed away there in December 2024 at the age of 86 years. I cannot praise the staff there enough, they cared for him with compassion and understanding as he could be difficult
at times. We were welcome to visit him at any time and we would enjoy the musical activities with him, often a live singer. The staff would spend the time to talk to him about his previous hobbies.
He had a very pleasant room with lovely views over the countryside - the home itself is in a beautiful setting and we feel we could not have chosen a better place for him to spend his final years.

My sister has been at Barchester Dudwell St Mary Care Home for over six months, the staff and admin have been fantastic.
My sister is very happy and so much better mentally and physically since she arrived.
Living at the opposite side of the country, it is great to know she is safe.

My mother moved into the home in late June when she needed more care and has now become a permanent resident. I am extremely impressed with the home. The most important asset is the staff, both the management and care staff. They are so friendly, caring and welcoming. There is an overall happy atmosphere
in the place. The building and facilities are excellent - there is even some air conditioning. There is a full programme of weekly activities, including entertainment and visits from school children. I give everything five stars except for "value for money" as it is so expensive, with an automatic annual increase of at least 5.9% regardless of inflation which seems hard to justify. Having said that, I am so grateful that she is in such a lovely home and send a big thank you to all the wonderful staff who work so hard.

My father came to Dudwell with complex care needs. The team have treated him with dignity and respect. Our family are so grateful for this, as it has been hard to let Dad go into someone else's care. We visited our friend who is a resident at the home. We had a spare hour so we popped in for a surprise visit. As usual, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We were all offered a cup of tea and they found us a lovely spot in the lounge so we could sit and talk to our friend.
We left feeling very
happy that our dear friend was happy and being so well looked after.

My father had excellent palliative care the staff were very patient with his fussy ways and accommodating and always kept me up to date. I don’t however feel the doctor from local surgery made enough visits and was dismissive.

It feels slightly weird, reading lots of other glowing reviews of Dudwell St Mary and knowing that although I recognise many elements of other reviews, our experience was hugely out of line with others. I would hope that it was a 'one-off'.
Dudwell St Mary has a very nice ambience, great location,
the staff are lovely, smiles abound and yet, in our case the care just was not there. Our family group has considerable experience of care and nursing, and a relative recently in other local care home, so our expectations were very realistic.
My mother, very elderly and with dementia, went there from care at home. It was initially to be four weeks respite, with the intention that it would become long-term. In the event, we brought her home after one week. There was a catalogue of failings, they were recognised by senior staff at the time, apologised for, but nothing seemed to get better. Effective communication between staff seemed to be almost entirely missing.

I do agree there were areas of improvement taken and found during her stay and as promised and as discussed the clinical team worked with the care team to resolve the difficulties that were found. Sadly this time, time was against us only having days to turn around and also time to allow her to settle with her dementia. This has resulted in some learnings taken forward which has led to a better standard of service so we thank you for enabling this to occur. Communication has now improved and we do hope we can reassure you of the actions taken going forward. We do hope you feel able to pop in again sometime to see us so that we can go through these learnings with you. We wish you and your family well with your ongoing care experience.

Every single person on the team at Dudwell St Mary was outstandingly caring, from our first day onwards. We couldn’t have asked for more. Hi. My name is Emma Rich-Spice and I am the General Manager at Dudwell St Mary.


I trained in mental health and care management and forensics as a degree and have been managing adult nursing and complex care home services now for over 20 years. I bring a deep and caring knowledge of how to ensure the care given to you and your loved ones is at a standard you would expect and more so. My door is always open for a coffee and a chat for all. Care is a huge passion of mine, one of which has led me to the House of Lords to positively champion adult social care and those who live and work within.


For me, kind, caring, personalised and holistic care should be at the heart of everything my team and I will provide for you and we will take the time to get you know you and deliver the best service we can to your wishes to live as independent life as possible.

My name is Oana and I believe that helping people is part of who I am.


I was originally trained as a nurse in Bucharest, Romania. I arrived in Kent, UK in January 2015 and since then, I have worked as a Registered Nurse in various care settings. As part of my professional journey, I have managed a Residential Home and worked on other projects, all focusing on elderly health and social care.


I have an NVQ L5 in Leadership and Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Social Care. Since 2015, I have worked towards building my career around helping people and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come.


My role at Dudwell St Mary allows me to be part of an amazing team of professionals who make all the efforts to provide the best care services and improve our residents’s life quality.


I am enthusiastic about the role I have, I consider myself kind, approachable, hardworking team orientated and always willing to help others.

Caroline Morley

Job Title: Home Administrator

Hi, my name is Caroline, and I joined the team here at Dudwell in February 2011. My role as Administrator involves managing payroll, accounts and HR, in addition to the financial and business systems in the home, working closely with the General Manager.


I enjoy meeting residents old and new, along with their loved ones, and building these relationships.


I am supported by two members of the admin team to ensure that we deliver a high standard of work.

Soraia Cunha

Job Title: Unit Manager St Mary's

Joined: 2011

Soraia is our wonderful Unit Manager Nurse for our St Mary's nursing unit. Soraia has been with Dudwell for approx. 10 years now and is a well-respected member of our team. She does a fantastic job with the staff rota, and care planning and is a great support role/mentor to our RGNs. Soraia is passionate about all aspects of elderly nursing care and we are grateful to have her working with our team as she brings compassionate care to the forefront.

Linda Lawes

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2008

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.


I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping. In 2018 I then became an activities coordinator where I brought lots of new and exciting ideas to the role.


I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

Hello my name is David, I am the Head of Maintenance at Dudwell St Mary. This role is varied and challenging to keep the home environment to the highest standard possible and to ensure that both residents and staff can enjoy their surroundings safely. I started this role in July 2020 after working as the maintenance manager of a holiday park for six years. When I was made redundant I decided to pursue a more rewarding career in the care home sector and I am very happy I did! Previously to this, I have been self-employed as a handyman and I am a fully qualified electrician.
