I recently visited my brother for the first time in his new care home; Hailsham Care Home and I received a very warm and friendly greeting from all the staff I met. The staff were kind and compassionate, Taking exceptional care of my brother. The staff were all professional, attentive, and courteous.
My brother's bed faces the garden and trees. I was kindly offered a cup of tea and was most welcome after a long journey.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank one member of staff in particular and all staff members that made February 14th (Valentine's Day) so special.
My wife is unable to comprehend what's happening, but it was still a joy be spend some extra time with her room on this special occasion.
The
meal, flowers and the trail of hearts into her room was a nice and uplifting touch.
Special thanks to all at Hailsham House!

The staff in the unit were always warm and welcoming when I visited my dad.
They cared for him with kindness and compassion, and did their very best for him.
The small lounge where we could go and spend time as a family was so nice.
And the kettle indeed was always on.
There wasn’t a visit where
a cup of tea wasn’t offered.
Dad loved the garden too, which is kept immaculate. And there are also lots of activities and events put on which I know he enjoyed.
I would just like to say a very big thank you to you all on the unit for everything you did for Dad.

My mum has been in Hailsham house for 3 years now. She is happy and settled there. They always make me feel welcome and tell me everything going on with Mum's health and wellbeing. The staff are always kind and are really good to talk to and sometimes cry to. I feel supported by them when I get upset.
Equally, they are always there to laugh with. I think they are amazing and I wouldn’t want my mum to be anywhere else. A massive thank you to each and everyone of the staff on Willow unit!

My husband is a resident in the Willow unit, when he arrived in Hailsham House from another care home he was very poorly with a chest infection and lack of good care. Within a short time, he was a different man. I find the care given to my husband is very good, they are all very kind and caring, there
is a happy atmosphere in the Willow unit and the activities are amazing, the work put into it is commendable.
In Hailsham House, you feel you belong to a family. I am always informed about my husband and what other things are going on.

I am so glad that I came to visit my aunt last Friday. It took me 5 hours to get to Hailsham but it was so worth it. I was reassured to see my aunt being so well cared for. Her room was warm and decorated with all her familiar pictures and bits and bobs. The staff were all lovely and had good interactions
with her. Even though she no longer recognises me or my sister, I felt a sense of peace in finding her calm, warm, clean, well-cared for and not alone.

My mother was admitted in July 2022 and died in November 2022.
We feel she was in the best place for the few months that she was in their care. I could not have been more pleased with the care she got at Hailsham House. The staff were exceptional and all involved in her care were wonderful to her.
Always showing their best to her. I am sure it wasn’t easy as my mother was not necessarily an easy person to get on. It was reassuring to have such outstanding staff that continuously smiled and went out of their way to be helpful to her.
I am eternally grateful to Hailsham House for making her last days comfortable. What more could be asked for?

All the staff and the girls we have connected with looking after my dear mum are so hard-working and always greet us with smiles. We are grateful my mum seems contented most of the time. With dementia, you are always on tenterhooks but she is in a very safe environment, warm and cosy in her room.

Very helpful and kind staff. Mum isn't always presented well as she doesn't always look clean. Her fingernails are often dirty. Sometimes the care has been lacking possibly because of staff shortages and my mum is overlooked.
The staff and friendly and helpful and I'm sure it's difficult sometimes
to keep on top of everything.
Reply from RICHARD LAWSON, General Manager at Hailsham House Care HomeThank you for your review and for your feedback, I have noted its contents.

Whilst I cannot agree with your conjecture that we are short staffed, (we are not), or that your Mum gets 'overlooked, (this is most certainly not the case), I do wholeheartedly agree with your comments about our team, being friendly, helpful and kind.

I am proud to acknowledge that we do have a wonderful team, and they are recognised as such without exception.

My thanks once again for sharing your thoughts. They are appreciated and valued, and will always be considered and respected as appropriate.

Our lovely Mum arrived at Hailsham House in early November for respite, but it quickly became apparent that she needed end of life care. From the moment the Manager visited Mum at home to assess her, we knew that she was going to be in safe hands. It was a difficult time for me and my siblings and also
for Mum who had lived completely independently up until her admission.
Mum was treated with kindness, respect and love. Initially, she enjoyed going into the lounge and even outside. Becoming increasingly tired and weak, she stayed in her room. She was never lonely however. Staff were constantly popping by to check-in, she had her hair done, her nails painted, was beautifully dressed and always in her chair. Despite the rise of Omicron, we were able to visit daily, (having undertaken a lft) and although all staff wore masks, their smiles and empathy were palpable. Mum died peacefully 3 weeks later in her sleep, with her hand being held. She (and we) experienced the best care possible.

I stayed here for a weeks respite to give my husband a break.
The carers were efficient, caring and attentive to my needs. I chose to remain in my room for the whole stay and the carers regularly checked to make sure I was ok and if I needed anything.
The room was large and airy with en-suite facilities
and very comfortable.
The manager came to my room to check my needs were being met which they were.
Thanks for a very enjoyable and restful stay. Hope to see you all again.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.535)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.535) out of 10 for Hailsham House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.535 for Hailsham House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (194 Excellents x 5) + (89 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 301 Ratings = 4.535
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hailsham House Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 119 registered maximum number of service users is 23.8, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
