Mum has been at Hailsham House for almost a year and sadly the staff are still not managing day to day basic care - ie personal hygiene. Mum needs more one on one time as she doesn't cope well in the main lounge which is something hopefully they are now working towards.

The care given by the permanent staff is good, but overall, this aspect (Care/Support) is let down by the seemingly current reliance upon agency workers who, with the best will in the world, cannot be expected to get to know individual residents, their preferences and their foibles. Perhaps this is
not helped by permanent staff absences during the holiday season. Similarly, in part, my reduced marks on the activities section may, in part, be attributed to the absence of the coordinator. It is to be hoped that the recent appointment of her replacement will result in an improvement in this area. On a positive note, visitors can always expect a warm welcome and all comments made are acted upon by staff and management alike.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Hailsham House Care HomeThank you for your comments on carehome.co.uk, we appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. The home is currently undergoing a recruitment drive as we do accept that it is not helpful to run a service with agency staff, although we do have block booked agency staff to try and support continuity of care. We have introduced a new way of managing annual leave so you should see improvements during holiday seasons. We are delighted that we now have a new activities and wellbeing lead in the home.

Dad has been at Hailsham House for approximately 18 months. In this time, he has been treated with the utmost care, dignity and support. His mobility has declined but thanks to the care received, his understanding and interactions have improved dramatically. Happy, content and engaged.

Staff at Hailsham house have cared for our mother for 8 years now, helping her manage the transition into care with skill and kindness. She has been very well cared for throughout her life here, both in sickness and in health. She is very happy at Hailsham House and is loved by the staff. I have no
hesitation in recommending Hailsham House to anyone looking for a safe and well-run home for their loved one.

My dad is still very young and he has a very rare illness. I wanted to take care of him myself but it is very difficult to do so, he moved from Essex to be closer to me as that is where we are originally from. Since he has been at Hailsham House he has become so much happier. He is always smiling and
he finds it hard to talk but all staff and nurses interact with him like he is a member of their team. I feel at ease now knowing he is very well looked after and if I am busy at work I can check in on him whenever.

I am writing this as the wife of a dementia patient who was in respite care for 4 weeks while I went abroad. I could see the daily care plans which were comprehensive and my family and friends visited on my behalf were always greeted and made welcome and found my husband well cared for.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.535)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.535) out of 10 for Hailsham House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.535 for Hailsham House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (194 Excellents x 5) + (89 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 301 Ratings = 4.535
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hailsham House Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 119 registered maximum number of service users is 23.8, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
