Freshford Cottage provided not just outstanding care for my sister when supporting her end of life care but also loved, respected and took time to get to know her and that meant the world to Emma and our family.

From the first communication with Diana we knew that this was a supportive and caring

environment. I honestly can't thank all the team for their professionalism and the quality of care that was provided. Nothing was too much to ask.

The staff not just cared for my sister but also made sure my mum was supportive when visiting her daughter at the most challenging time.

Thank you so very much for all that you did you ensure Emma was not in pain and was able to pass peacefully.

Reply from Diana Midoschi, Registered Nursing Care Manager at Freshford CottageThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. It means a great deal to all of us that you took the time to share your experience.

My Mum has been a resident of Freshford Cottage Nursing Home since December 2024.
She was discharged from The Hospital into the Care of Freshford Cottage Nursing Home for "End of Life Care. Her prognosis wasn't good all.
I was reassured by all the Staff who care for my Mum that they would do the very
best for my Mum. I felt supported too by Diana the Manager and all the Nursing Team on what was a very emotional time for me.
Sadly in recent months my Mum's Mental Health has deteriorated.
Which is proving to be an issue for the Carers/Nurses carrying out there usual Care routines - Due to my Mum's challenging behaviour.
They continue to reassure and support my Mum regardless.
And Diana and the Nursing Team are straight on to the GP's and Mental Health Team -To find the right medication to support this.
I have no doubt in my mind that my Mum is cared for in the best possible way in the Care of Freshford Cottage Nursing Home.
Thank you all for your support.

I cannot be more pleased with the care that my husband has received since last September. He was very poorly when he was admitted, and no one envisaged any improvements, but with the love and care he has been shown, there have been improvements which have amazed our family. There is always a warm welcome
when I visit, and I am always offered tea. There are always members of staff around to discuss any worries or concerns that I may have. There is a wide range of activities on offer, which is so beneficial. I bless the day I found Freshford Cottage.
Reply from Diana Midoschi, Registered Nursing Care Manager at Freshford CottageDear Pam, thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. It means a great deal to all of us to hear about your husband's journey and the positive impact our team has had on both him and your family.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will be shared with the entire team, who will be touched by your recognition of their hard work and commitment. Thank you for placing your trust in us and for taking the time to share your experience.

Our Mum has only been at Freshford Cottage for just over a week, and in her words, it is like staying in a 5 star hotel. She has a lovely room upstairs with a sea view and overlooking the salts recreation ground. The staff have been amazing and nothing is too much trouble. They have facilities going
on during the day throughout the week, so residents would never get bored. Our Mum has a large family who visit her regularly, we are always treated with the upmost respect and pleased to say the kettle is always on. Our Mum loves to chat and there is always someone on hand to listen to her. We can't ask for anymore. Our Mums happiness is paramount, and we as a family are pleased that they are taking great care of our precious Mum. Thank you so much to the brilliant staff at Freshford Cottage, couldn't wish for a more friendly family orientated place for Mum to be.

I'm so glad that Freshford Cottage was recommended to me. They are so caring and give such brilliant support to my wife who suffers from dementia and various other mental health problems. Initially I felt guilty not being able to care for her myself, but she wasn't safe at home. The staff at Freshford
spend a lot of time with her, not just for medical reasons but also to chat and engage with her. Being a small home with I believe only a maximum of 18 residents makes it feel very personal. All the staff are very approachable and keep me involved with her care.
Reply from Diana Midoschi, Registered Nursing Care Manager at Freshford CottageDear Alan, we appreciate your kind words and are delighted to hear that you had a positive experience with our care home.

We were very apprehensive about moving my father-in-law to a home as he'd been so independent for such a long time; however, within hours, he had settled in. He started joining in with the activities and other residents and looked so happy. As soon as we walked in the door, it felt like home from home,
and the staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. We were offered tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits on every visit. The food always looked delicious and was beautifully presented, cooked fresh, and was such a great choice. His room was cosy with a separate toilet and sink, TV and a nice view; everything he needed was there. The activities they provide are wonderful, and you can see the residents' joy at being offered such a great opportunity to join in. The staff complement the home so much and are very kind. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Freshford Cottage to anyone looking for care, as we couldn't fault it. It really is like home.

We were so delighted to get a room at Freshford Cottage for my sister-in-law who was discharged from a London hospital for end-of-life care. The staff were all so caring, friendly & supportive, despite the additional challenges that dementia brought. The nursing care was efficient and effective. The
food was beautifully prepared, with all preferences taken into account. The beauty of a smaller home is the personalised attention that is possible both for the resident & their families. We would not hesitate to recommend Freshford Cottage to others.

My father, aged 95, spent 8 months in Freshford Cottage after discharge from hospital following a fall and, while he was still well enough to appreciate it, he enjoyed the view of the sea from his room. The staff were all very kind to him right up until the end, and while I was living abroad, several
people who visited him assured me that he was comfortable and cared for very well. End-of-life care is always a difficult time for everyone, but Freshford Cottage managed this phase of my dad's life in a kind and and professional manner.

My mum has been with Freshford Cottage for the last few weeks. In that time she has received the best care. Staff have been so kind and caring, not only towards mum, but to me and my family too.

We were offered a room at Freshford following a diagnosis of terminal cancer and stage 4 dementia. From the moment we did the initial visit we felt very relaxed and comfortable with the home and the whole team. Every staff member is very caring and approachable, and understand the resident's needs.
Nothing is too much to ask and they communicate everything, good days and bad, which is refreshing. Home cooked food has gone down a treat, especially the desserts. They encourage residents to join in with activities and the whole place just has a lovely feel to it. A friend asked me after the first few weeks what I thought and I said that I would happily put my own mum there if the time came. Great bunch of staff and management. Thank you for caring.

During December 2023 the residents were lucky enough to have an afternoon outing for cream tea nearby and were transported there and back with carers and visitors, as most were in wheelchairs, the transport, a special wheelchair mini bus was supplied by the nursing home. The visit was a great hit with
all and enjoyed by all. During the morning of the same day, my husband had a hospital appointment at Eastbourne with transport ordered by the nursing home, the hospital was running late with their appointments!
On arrival back to the nursing home the staff rallied around him gave him lunch in his room and made sure he was comfortable and ready to go out again! Which he did.

There is a warmth in this nursing home that I didn't experience in any of the other homes I visited when I was looking for residential care for my mum. I like the fact that it is relatively small so it feels, and is, personal. The staff are all lovely, as are the residents. You can tell by the way the
staff interact with the residents that they truly care about them. I visit regularly and I feel like everyone has become part of my extended family.
My mum spent a few weeks in an alternative home before we had the good fortune of finding Freshford Cottage, it was a completely different experience and I count my blessings we were able to move her here.

I honestly cannot rate Freshford Cottage high enough. My mum has been there now for seven years and continues to be happy and well cared for. The staff go all out to make sure that the resident's needs are met. They do activities almost every day and it’s so lovely to go onto their website and see what
my mum's been up to since our last weekly visit. They have an ‘open door’ policy which means I can go and see her anytime day or night. We couldn’t have found a more lovely place for her and I would highly recommend this home. They treat the residents like they’re part of their family and we are made welcome every time we visit. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could. It’s just brilliant and my mum is so happy there.

Freshford Cottage is a homely care home that provides professional nursing care. All the staff are just lovely people, I cannot speak highly enough of them. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.798)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Freshford Cottage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.923 for Freshford Cottage is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 169 Ratings = 4.923
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Freshford Cottage is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
