Outstanding is all I can say. My father went to Freshford for end-of-life care from the hospital. Dad was looked after as if he was the staff's own family.
I and my brothers cannot thank them enough - simply superb in every way.

We feel we were so lucky for Dad to be admitted to Freshford Cottage Care Home. The staff, every single one of them, were so lovely to Dad. They really cared for him so well and helped us deal with the situation.
Whatever Dad needed he got and really enjoyed the people around him.
I cannot recommend

My mum-in-law got admitted to Freshford after being discharged from hospital on end-of-life with cancer. Sadly she passed away on 27 November 2022 peacefully. The staff at the care home are tremendous and kept her very comfortable during her time there and they kept me informed various times throughout
her stay. All the staff made us feel very welcome and never once rushed us to end our visit. My husband is in a wheelchair and he is exceptionally thankful for all the effort the staff went through to make sure he was able to visit his mom in her last days at Freshford.

The care and kindness shown to my Mum since being at Freshford Cottage in September 2021 have been exemplary which has helped her settle into her new home and be happy there.
The staff are attentive, approachable, and professional. The activities organised at Freshford Cottage are very varied and something
that Mum has enjoyed participating in. A friendly home from home.

The staff at Freshford cottage were brilliant with my dad, they were very patient, tried all sorts of ways to tempt him to eat when he was feeling poorly and clearly cared for him very much. Dad wasn’t able to speak but I could tell from his face lighting up and his body language that he was very fond
of most of the staff.

I recently visited a gentleman at the home, and I was amazed at his improvement since I last saw him. He was clean, bright and had colour in his cheeks. He looked ten times better. His/the surroundings and staff must have had a large part to play in this. They were a happy, cheerful group, informative
and friendly. The perfect establishment.

A very friendly home, staff always make you feel welcome, my stepfather is well looked after. His room is clean and tidy, and he says he likes the food. This gives my mother peace of mind as she feels so guilty not being able to look after him herself.

On commencing the first visit to the home during the lockdown, I was impressed with the standard of attention to detail of covid checks, sanitization for protection of residents, staff and now allowed visitors. I cannot fault this home for the care and management of all their staff to residents and
family visitors throughout these very difficult times this past year. A testament to them that they have never had an outbreak. Well done all at Freshford.

My mother is well cared for by friendly, cheerful staff. She is generally comfortable and content, with the occasional grumble. It has been difficult over the last 12 months with not being able to visit my mother. However, the home has facilitated FaceTime calls and as much contact as possible. During
this time, I am confident that my mother has been well looked after and kept safe. I managed to visit my mother in her room this week, the first time in 12-months. The visit was very well managed by staff and I would like to thank them for facilitating this so well.

My mother has been a resident of Freshford Cottage for a few years now. At first I was sceptical about these types of homes having seen the horror stories on TV. I need not have worried. The staff are excellent, my mother is extremely happy. The way the home has handled this pandemic is to be congratulated,
not one single case! Nothing is too much trouble for them. The room my mother occupies is very clean, she is very well looked after and I cannot praise the staff highly enough. She is always treated with the utmost dignity and anyone visiting is met with politeness and made to feel welcome. I would highly recommend Freshford Cottage to anyone looking for exceptional care for their mother or father.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.798)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Freshford Cottage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.923 for Freshford Cottage is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 169 Ratings = 4.923
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Freshford Cottage is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
