Where to start..... Although my opinion of this home has always been a positive one, I felt compelled to write a few words having seen directly the recent improvements which have been put into operation. First of all, the management of this home has improved dramatically - In the past few years I have
observed a very high turnover of staff at all levels (management and operational). The past high staff turnover resulted in poor staff morale and had a knock on effect with the residents. The newly appointed Manager really is a "breath of fresh air" someone who instills real confidence and is a really "nice friendly bloke" to boot. Having met him and discussed my past concerns, I am supremely confident this man can get things sorted. He is now supported by his Deputy who was a successful care home manager herself for many years (I have met her and had many positive dealings with her in her own home over the years).

My involvement in this home is a professional one, I act in the best interests of one of it's long term residents. One of my tasks is to ensure my client is being properly cared for in a safe and stimulating environment. Following the recent changes throughout the home I am more than satisfied that this resident is being properly looked after and cared for.

Unlike most local care homes this home is owned and run by a "not for profit" charitable organisation. All the home really needs to do is to simply "wipe it's face" and pay the costs of the actual CARE itself generating only enough profit for future investment (improvements). No fussy forensic accountants here, hedge funds or shareholders seeking a quick buck! This should instill confidence for those of you looking for a care home where the residents come first.

My only (very minor) gripe is that the home has no wifi - I wanted to get my charge a "Now TV" box but there is no nearby router!

Reply from Jonathan Catterwell, Services Manager at LauristonThank you very much for your kind and ecouraging comments. There has been a lot of development at Lauriston with particular emphasis on the team. I'm also delighted that we have been able to demonstrate that hard work and effort in the feedback we have been receiving recently. One thing to add, WiFi is available to all residents, relatives and guests. All you need to do is speak to the admin team at the home and they will organise access.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.894) out of 10 for Lauriston is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.894 for Lauriston is calculated as follows: ( (429 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 472 Ratings = 4.894
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lauriston is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
