Very happy with the standard of care. The staff are always cheerful and helpful. Obviously quite expensive here and slightly worried about what will happen when Mum's money runs out!

Staff are always welcoming and genuinely care for residents. The food is tasty and well presented with sufficient if relatives wish to dine, even at short notice.
My aunt has recently been moved to a newly refurbished room and all her photos have been put on the walls.

The dining area is quite noisy which my aunt finds uncomfortable (noise from laminate flooring and no fabric to 'baffle' the sound). Her lovely hand-knitted cardigans cannot withstand the washing regime but otherwise, it is a lovely care home.

Reply from Valerie Russell, Home Manager at Lauriston

Thank you for your kind words and positive feedback. Lauriston is currently being refurbished; due to the dining room needing to be laminate to ensure infection control is maintained and areas are clean from potential spillages. Personal care for my dad from permanent staff is very good. He feels quite comfortable when they have to clean him up. He doesn't like being attended by temporary care staff who do not know him or his needs. It makes him feel anxious. Non-continuity of nursing care staff makes it difficult for the family to communicate on visits. Trick - put everything in writing - concerns/instructions - so absolutely no ambiguity.

Reply from Valerie Russell, Home Manager at Lauriston

Thank you for your feedback. Within the last month, we have reduced our agency staffing by 80%. When we need to book, we make sure that we book the same staff to ensure continuity for all residents. I am more than to happy to meet with you personally should you wish to discuss your father's care.

The staff take good care of my nan and everyone is very friendly. Sometimes there are buzzers and beeps which are quite loud but not for long. Overall a very good experience.

Thank you for your positive feedback. I am happy to hear that the call bells are not heard ringing for long, unfortunately, they do have to be a certain level so that all staff can hear residents calling for assistance, ensuring that all their care needs are met.

I always find the staff friendly and welcoming and enjoy my occasional visits. This time, my friend obviously had had a fall and she complained of a sore head - otherwise, she was OK. I am unable to comment on management, activities or safety/security.

Reply from Valerie Russell, Home Manager at Lauriston

Thank you for your positive feedback. I will ensure that the information will be passed back to the staff. We do follow falls protocol and ensure that residents are pain-free and will often ask residents if they experience any pain and provide pain relief with their consent.

This home is clean and tidy plus the staff are very nice. The coordinator at this home is excellent. She will help you in every way she can and keeps residents entertained, they all love her.

Cleaners work very hard to keep the home clean and smelling fresh.

Sadly my dad's dementia continues to blight his latter years in so many horrifying and debilitating ways. However, I am so so grateful to the Lauriston community for the care and dignity they strive to provide him - very often against all the odds! He's extremely challenging. After a painful and prolonged spell in hospital, when he became almost completely debilitated, they gently nurtured him back to a form of capacity where he was able to smile again. Infections, falls, increasing dementia etc continue to challenge but, Lauriston will always, always do their absolute best.

Excellent staff, not so keen on some agency staff at weekends, would be better with more permanent staff on as they get to know the residents better. Food is getting better. Entertainment good. Visiting is very arrangeable as I am now a volunteer and come almost every day. Cleaning staff excellent.

Thank you for your positive review and vital comments. We are looking into ongoing recruitment to reduce our agency usage. When we are required to use an agency, we ensure the staff are consistent and work to high standards.

We have visited six care homes during the past five years. The staff at Lauriston are very friendly, helpful and care promptly when needed. The food is very food and nicely prepared and rooms and lounges are clean and fresh.
There are few criticisms but I could mention two:
1. Laundry arrangements need tighter control so that a labelled garment is washed, ironed and returned to its owner.

2. Not all rooms can be bright and attractive but some are quite gloomy.

Reply from Valerie Russell, Home Manager at Lauriston
Thank you for your feedback which is vital for us to ensure we continue to drive high standards.

We are continuing to work through our laundry arrangements and to seek good labels for relatives or residents to purchase to ensure clothing does not go missing. We will be having a complete refurbishment within the next month and residents can choose a feature colour within MHA colours.

A pleasant and friendly home with Christian values and principles (important to many residents). Although there is no place like home, our friend is happy in the atmosphere. I think regular visitors by relatives/friends should be told the entrance key code. To ring the bell each time must be tedious to staff and is too much like Fort Knox. It should be shared on a strictly confidential basis.

Reply from Valerie Russell, Home Manager at Lauriston

Thank you for your positive comments and feedback. With regards to health and safety within our home, we enable residents and relatives to access the code when leaving the home. Residents are entitled to the code for entering however we cannot release the code to relatives or other people on entering due to risks and security within the home.

Dad was admitted to Lauriston six months before he passed away. Needless to say, none of us wanted him to go into care. However, I can honestly say it was a lovely six months for him. The home is bright and airy and all the staff are excellent be they domestic staff, kitchen, carers nurses, admin and manager. They treated Dad like they would wish for their own parents to be treated. As a relative, we were also treated exceptionally well. Tea and cake were always offered at our visits. During the last few days of dads life, they could not have offered more support, An excellent home.
