Located in the pleasant market town of Polegate, just on the outskirts of Eastbourne, The Polegate Care Home offers nursing care to older.

Recently undergoing a substantial refurbishment, The Polegate has benefitted from transformed communal areas including dining rooms, lounges/day rooms, a reception area, bathrooms and corridors. The home also boasts a range of onsite facilities for residents to enjoy, including a hair salon, quiet room and a beautiful landscaped garden and patio, which serves as the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family.

Priding themselves on providing person-centred and sensitive care, the team place respect, dignity and independence at the heart of their practice. They are there to support residents to live life the way they choose, empowered to make independent choices regarding their care and the way they spend each day.

I often hear bad things about care homes and was very worried about having to find one for my aunt. The manager and the team at The Polegate Care Home completely erased these fears from the moment you walk into the home it's just lovely.
The staff are very kind and caring. Nothing is too much trouble.
There is always something going on for the resident to do. Aunty reports the food is good. So grateful we found this amazing home.

I cannot thank The Polegate enough for all of the care and support they have given both myself and my mother. This year has already proved to be a difficult one but, with the help of the team at The Polegate things are a lot easier now that I know my mother is safe and well cared for.
She loves it
at The Polegate and has formed good relationships with the wonderful staff and other patients.
I had lunch with mother last week and was blown away by the delicious food and the fantastic service. All for £2.50. Bargain!!!

On my first visit, I was very surprised that I was able to walk into the care home without anybody approaching me. The entrance doors were unlocked, so in my opinion, security was very poor. The staff seemed very polite and I felt assured that my Mother was in good hands.

Regarding the front door, we have taken action to address this as soon as I read your comments. We have now ensured that the door is locked from 5 pm and that visitors can only access via the doorbell where they will then be escorted by a staff member to their relative.

It seems like a comfortable environment and the staff were very polite. When we asked for the mattress to be changed the staff were very efficient and it was done within 20 minutes. On one occasion, my husband and I visited on a Thursday evening at 8.20pm and I wasn't very impressed with the security
at the reception as the front entrance was open and accessible for anybody to enter as no one was at the desk.

Thank you for your feedback, having considered your concerns we have had a review of our security measures and as such have made the following changes:-


Reception staff now man the front doors from 9 am to 5 pm. Outside of these times, the front doors are locked with entry being gained by ringing the bell. We have also changed all external door codes and have a system of changing these codes on a regular basis.

My wife was transferred from the local hospital for care after suffering a fracture to her collarbone and elbow on her left side.
As a result, she is unable to use her hands and is receiving much help in feeding and toilet facilities.
For two nights, she has had a mattress which is suitable for the
avoidance of bedsores but as she is able to sit during the day, this has caused her much distress regarding the movement of the mattress.
Thankfully this has been resolved.

As mentioned the air mattress was replaced with the memory flex foam mattress last week. In response to your comment regarding safety and security at the Home all door codes have now been changed and staff reminded that the main door should be locked after 5pm.

My sister stayed at The Polegate for a period of respite earlier this year. I have to say we could not have wished for a better home. From the moment we walked through the front door we could tell she would be safe and well cared for. The staff are kind and attentive, the food is outstanding, the home
is clean and tidy and everyone has a smile!

Overall I think this nursing home is very good. One or two early, but inevitable, problems were dealt with immediately. The food is excellent and the staff are always cheerful and helpful.

The level of care provided within the home is outstanding, from general care and 1 to 1 interaction with my grandmother. I have found occasions when my grandmother has felt stressed and care staff have calmed her down. Simple things like stroking her hair and talking to her. Or, if I found Nan uncomfortable
in her bed, the care staff are very responsible in making her comfortable in a safe way and bearing in mind her dignity. Overall, the home is brilliantly run, caring and person-centred. Very impressed.

My mum received excellent care with The Polegate Care Home. The staff were friendly and patient and when it became obvious that end of life care was required they were fantastic.

My mother's care has been good so far although there is a clear lack of staff to help straight away. This worries me as paying residents are not getting the full care they should. Ie mum is never showered, just bed washed and I go in weekly to wash her hair, cut her nails etc.

I have recently arrived from South Africa to visit my mother who has been here since February this year for the purpose of rehabilitation to walk again.
I never met the physio staff but I am impressed with the staff and nurses I have met. The rooms are amazing and the food looks super. The atmosphere
is cheerful and I think that is thanks to the wonderful caring staff. I would definitley recommend it.

I am very happy living in this home, all is good. The management is perfect, I am very happy with the activities and love it when we go out.

My visit today was very good. My relative was well and looked after very well also.
We had a lovely cup of tea and biscuits whilst talking to staff who were coming into the room. I was also asked if I would like some lunch as it was being served.
I came away very happy. The staff were very helpful.

I found the staff and management friendly and helpful. My immediate family commented on how well they were kept informed of all developments in relation to my care. The none weight bearing rehabilitation team were most supportive during my stay. On many occasions, I enjoyed sitting out in the garden
which was well maintained.

We all went in a convoy of wheelchairs, with carers pushing us, up Polegate high street to the pub for lunch.
We all had a great time and a good laugh. It was so good to be able to get out for a few hours.
The carers were so wonderful, as it was hard work pushing 7 wheelchairs.
We are all looking
forward to the next time.
