Overall Experience

My relative has been resident at Oaklands for nearly a year. Right from the start I found the staff & management at Oaklands kind, helpful & pro-active in setting up and continuing his care. The very comfortable amenities & calm ambiance of the communal areas of the home are backed up by professional, friendly & considerate staff. There is an admirable attention to detail, including making sure that he has the equipment & furniture appropriate to his current needs. It is clear that my relative feels both comfortable & content here. No review would be complete without noting the quality of the meals provided, both in the actual food & its attractive presentation - despite being on a 'softer food diet' the dishes my relative is served always look nutritious, delicious & appetising. I would love to report how they taste but there is never anything left on the plate to try!

I can't recommend this nursing home highly enough. My dad has been a resident for a few months now, and the care he receives is just amazing. He's always involved in activities and spending time in the communal areas with other residents, and the staff treat him with real dignity and warmth.
They're also so flexible when I bring my young son to visit - he always gets included and engaged with, which means a lot to us. Every resident I see seems happy, clean, and well cared for.
The facilities are lovely too, with a nice terrace the residents can enjoy when the weather's good. Dad's room is modern and really high standard.

All round, it's a wonderful home, and I'm so happy he's there.

I would happily recommend Oaklands to others, the standard of care given to Joyce is well above average. I'd specifically mention the following:
* Joyce is treated with respect, courtesy and thoughtfulness. For example, she appeared a bit confused one morning and when I arrived one of the nurses discreetly asked me to let them know how I found Joyce to be so they could gather information should she have e.g the start of an infection.
*Joyce needs help to get washed and dressed and the member of the team giving this help is always patient and makes sure Joyce is able to choose which clothes she wears and does her hair knowing how she likes it.
*Joyce enjoys arts and crafts. The team all know this and the activity team tailor activities and outings for her accordingly.
*When Joyce has off site appointments or when visitors are coming, I let Oaklands know and they always put it in the diary so everyone is aware.

*In consultation with Joyce, her room has recently been refurbished.

Over the last 10 years I have visited Oaklands on a weekly basis visiting a longtime friend, and for nearly a year I have been visiting two friends when a another dear friend moved to Oaklands temporarily but now says she feels settled. Both women are without partners and neither has children. Both have been independent and active. So moving to "assisted living" was not an easy choice and occurred in each case following a health crisis. I have observed the initial period of bewilderment when getting home again is the intention and the imposition of routine feels interfering and unwelcome. I have seen the intuitive way the staff at Oaklands allow new residents to settle in and the supportive approach that preserves individuality. Over the years I have seen comings and goings and the huge extension project which must have tested the resilience of everyone. The home feels like a large family and the vulnerable are supported and encouraged to take a part by staff and residents.

This is my husband's second stay at Oaklands for two weeks Respite Care.
On arrival this time he was greeted back by friendly and welcoming staff. The facilities are very good and the care he receives is personal and attentive. Big thank you to staff for spotting early signs of possible infection and dealing with it promptly.
He was included in the regular activities created for residents so didn't have to feel left out or isolated. He thoroughly enjoys the food which is always freshly prepared and adapted to personal requirements.

I would recommend Oaklands for anyone seeking good quality respite care.

My poor old mum has Alzheimer and is not aware of the comings and goings of anyone. The carers at Oaklands are so caring and patient, they are so kind and look after mum's personal needs so well. My mum always looks clean and smells nice, when we go.
The home, in general, always looks clean and well cared for, just like the residents.
When mum was more aware of things, she enjoyed the daily activities. There is a lot going on.

Thankyou so much to all the staff at Oaklands, which make it a really calm and enjoyable place to be.

Oaklands Care Home originally cared for my father between 2021 and 2022. He received excellent care when he was there. When my mother got to the point where she needed greater help than she was receiving at home, we had no hesitation in asking Oaklands to care for her from mid 2025, initially on a respite care basis and now as a full time resident. Beti and her team are caring and professional and always do their best to provide an excellent service, whilst working in conjunction with family members to keep them appraised of day to day issues.

I found myself in unfamilia terrirory when mum became ill with Dementia and was told she would need to go in to residential care, but with the amazing support and care shown towards my mum and myself we settled quickly. From the management, nurses and every carer their compasion and empathy showned to all residents is exemplary. There is lots of activitys which mum loves doing painting, drawing, playing games and trips out.I am so happy that i can visit at any time, take her out or just sit in the garden then go home knowing she is safe and happy.I recomend to everyone looking for a warm and happy environment to place a love one, oaklands is 1st class and after 5 months my mum is thriving.

I have just recently lost my mum who lived at Oaklands for just over five years. Throughout that time, the care that she received has been exemplary and I am so grateful to Beti and all the lovely staff who made those final years as good as they could possibly be for an increasingly confused and infirm elderly lady.
It's a beautiful building with excellent rooms and facilities which are always clean and airy, but it's the staff who made Oaklands so very special. The genuine affection that they have for their residents was so clear throughout my mum's time there. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they looked after her in a way that I will always be grateful for. They saw beyond the increasingly confused 91 year-old who could be very determined to do things her own way (!) and connected with the lovely person that she was.

I will miss my mum but will also miss the friendly welcoming atmosphere and people at Oaklands. You are superheroes, thank you so much xx

From the moment I met Beti at Oaklands I had a good feeling. After being shown around, I just knew this was the place for my mother and after a year of mum being there I have been proven right! The kindness, care and friendliness shown to both my mother and myself is above and beyond what I have experienced in previous homes. All of the staff are outstanding and any request is met with prompt attention - nothing is too much effort. The head of activities keeps them all busy - balloon tennis is very popular with my mother and the other residents and if they wish to do something else he comes up with alternatives, no one is left out. From the day mum moved in my constant worries disappeared and one cant say more than that!

My mother moved into Oaklands in February 2025. The rooms in the new wing are spacious, modern and ensuite with her room having direct access to the garden. The communal living area is nicely styled and comfortable with doors to a sun terrace. This is where the activities (singers, craft, games etc) take place. The bedrooms in the original part also appear nice in passing.

The most important part is care. I really can't speak highly enough of the care she has received. The staff are genuinely caring and friendly not just to patients but also to the family. My mothers requirements (dementia and unable to walk) are high needing turning regularly and fed (with a lot of patience), having food liquidised (actual meals not just fortified readymade). I have seen the chef doing his rounds taking orders and meals appear of high standard.

The best thing I can say is that when I leave after visiting I don't feel worried about her care, which I suppose is all we can hope for.

My mother was at Oaklands for a relatively short space of time before she sadly passed away. However, I can without hesitation recommend Oaklands very highly. All the staff really cared for mum and did their utmost to make her time there as comfortable as possible. Her room was lovely; very spacious and they were extremely accommodating regarding the personal possessions she wanted around her. We were always informed of any updates in mum's care, the communication was excellent and myself and my brother had no doubts that mum was receiving the best possible care. We would like to express our deep and sincere thanks to everyone at Oaklands.

My Mother's room is spacious and comfortable. There has been a lot of building works going on but these are almost complete and the new balcony and garden will be a lovely asset in the Summer.
The staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure the residents are comfortable and happy.
The Manager and Deputy Manager are always very responsible to any queries or concerns I have and keep me fully informed.
Visitors are welcomed at any time and there is a warm, informal atmosphere.
I work as a Health Professional myself and am very aware of how difficult working in this sector is , but Oaklands have made a marked improvement in my mum's general health and well-being.

I found the idea of placing my mum in a Nursing Home very difficult, and I looked around at a number of homes but feel I made the .right choice with Oaklands, and am relaxed that my mum is well cared for.

My mum has been a resident at Oaklands Nursing Home for a few months now and I can't imagine her receiving better care anywhere else. My mum lived with me for nearly 3 years and the thought of handing over her care to someone else was a big concern for me. After visiting the home to take a look around and speak to the manager I was in no doubt that my mum would be cared for in a way that would give me peace of mind.
When Oaklands agreed they would be able to offer a home to my mum it was a huge relief, I knew she would be in the best possible place, receiving the best possible care. This has proved to be the case and I am very grateful to all the wonderful staff who look after my mum and make me feel so welcome when I visit.

Thank you.

I spent quite a bit of time at Oaklands during the last days of my friend's life and got to know the team there. They were brilliant. Every person I met: the manager, the carers, the nurses and all the support staff were friendly, engaged, caring and just perfect. Good care is not about the fixtures and fittings, it is about the people inside and I would highly recommend Oaklands to anyone considering a home-from-home for their loved one.

This is the second time we have used this wonderful nursing home. The first was for my Father who was cared for here for two years until his death. The love, care and attention to detail were astounding. 5 years on we have had to find respite for my mother-in-Law. She has been in Oaklands now for 2 months and is absolutely loving her stay. Her independence is completely respected but yet invaluable care has been provided.
A testimony to this wonderful place is the fact that from when I last used this facility for my dad practically every member of staff remains. This shows that the staff are well treated and looked after and enjoy their work. This is so very important in this line of work.

The home has a high level of cleanliness and the food is cooked freshly every day by their wonderful chef. I honestly can't recommend this home enough.
